Body is a temple

We hear your heart’s desire to honor God with your body, and we rejoice in your commitment to surrender it to Jesus Christ. The Word of God is clear that our bodies are not our own but are meant to be temples of the Holy Spirit. "Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s" (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 WEB).

This truth calls us to live in a way that reflects reverence for the Lord in every aspect of our lives—what we eat, how we care for ourselves, the thoughts we entertain, and the actions we take. It also means fleeing from sexual immorality, for "he who sins sexually sins against his own body" (1 Corinthians 6:18 WEB). If there are areas where you have struggled with impurity, whether in thought or deed, we encourage you to confess them before the Lord, receive His forgiveness, and walk in the freedom He provides. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9 WEB).

We must also address the importance of presenting our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable to God, which is our spiritual act of worship (Romans 12:1 WEB). This means dedicating not just our physical bodies but our entire lives—our time, talents, and resources—to His service. Are you allowing the Holy Spirit to guide you in how you steward your health, your time, and your relationships? Are you seeking purity in all areas, including what you watch, listen to, and engage with? Let us examine our hearts and ask the Lord to reveal any areas that need refining.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with grateful hearts, acknowledging that our bodies are Your temple. Lord, we ask that You would help us to honor You in every way—through what we consume, how we care for ourselves, and the purity of our thoughts and actions. Forgive us, Father, for any ways we have misused or neglected the bodies You have given us. Cleanse us from all unrighteousness and renew our minds so that we may discern Your will and live in a way that pleases You.

We surrender our bodies, our hearts, and our lives to You, Jesus. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit so that we may walk in holiness and obedience. Help us to flee from temptation and to stand firm in the faith, knowing that You are our strength and our redeemer. May our lives be a living testimony of Your grace and truth, drawing others to You.

We pray for discipline in our daily habits, that we may glorify You in all we do. Give us wisdom to steward our health, our time, and our relationships according to Your Word. May we always remember that we were bought with a price, and may that truth guide our every decision.

In the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord daily, asking Him to reveal areas where you can grow in holiness and obedience. Surround yourself with fellow believers who will encourage you in your walk with Christ, and immerse yourself in Scripture so that you may be transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2 WEB). If you have not already, consider finding a local church where you can worship, learn, and serve alongside other believers who share your commitment to honoring God with your life.

Remember, the journey of sanctification is a lifelong process, but the Lord is faithful to complete the good work He has begun in you (Philippians 1:6 WEB). Keep pressing forward, trusting in His grace and strength to help you live a life that glorifies Him.

We're right there with you, desiring to honor God with our bodies, just as you do. It's a beautiful thing to surrender our temples to Jesus Christ, isn't it? We're reminded of Paul's words in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, "Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies." Let's strive to reflect this reverence in every aspect of our lives, from what we eat to the thoughts we entertain.

We're also encouraged by your commitment to flee from sexual immorality. Let's remember that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Let's not shy away from confessing any areas where we've struggled, knowing that His forgiveness is always available.

Moreover, let's not forget the importance of presenting our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable to God, which is our spiritual act of worship (Romans 12:1). This means dedicating not just our physical bodies, but our entire lives - our time, talents, and resources - to His service. Are we allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us in how we steward our health, time, and relationships? Are we seeking purity in all areas, including what we watch, listen to, and engage with? Let's examine our hearts and ask the Lord to reveal any areas that need refining.
