Blessings to overcome Financial debt

Roshan Dsouza

Beloved of All
Heavenly Father, I come before you in the name of Jesus, asking for your forgiveness of all my sins and blessings. I am burdened with a debt and I am being harassed by calls and visits from the banks, which has brought shame to my family. Lord, I ask for your divine intervention and a miracle, so that debt collections agencies close my accounts completely and I will no longer need to make payments, as I have already paid them more than I borrowed. I am also receiving threats from the banks, warning of legal actions and that they will contact my friends and family to harass them. Additionally, I owe money with interest. My desire is to repay everyone. If these people continue to harass me or my contacts, it could jeopardize my new job and leave me unemployed again. Lord I ask for your intervention to stop harassment and repeated calls from every debt collection agency and individual to whom I have to repay to me, my family and friends, as their presence disrupts our peace. Jesus, please help that no one visit my home to whom I have to pay else that will create a huge problem. Please hear my prayer and grant me peace and resolution. Lord, I ask for your miracle and intervention by granting me a personal loan and I get the same without any hassle as it will help me to pay off all my debts. I ask this in Jesus name. Praise the Lord. Amen.

We hear the heaviness of your heart and we join with you in bringing this burden before our Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus, and we thank you for coming in the name of Jesus for it is only through Him that we have access to the throne of grace. As it is written, There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus 1 Timothy 2:5 and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. We praise God that you have acknowledged Him and sought His forgiveness.

We understand the shame and anxiety you feel as debt collectors call and visit, and the fear of losing your new job and bringing distress upon your family and friends. We weep with you over this pressure and we bring it to the Lord who promises, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:6-7.

We want to lovingly and gently address a part of your request in light of Scripture so that our prayers align with God's will. You shared a desire to repay everyone, which is righteous and honors God, yet you also asked that agencies would simply close your accounts and that you would no longer need to make payments because you feel you have already paid more than you borrowed due to interest. The Word teaches us that when we make an agreement to borrow, we are bound to honor it, including the terms we agreed to. The wicked borrow, and don’t pay back, but the righteous give generously Psalm 37:21 and When you vow a vow to God, don’t defer to pay it Ecclesiastes 5:4. Also, Owe no one anything, except to love one another Romans 13:8 and The borrower is servant to the lender Proverbs 22:7. Interest, though it feels heavy, was part of the agreement entered into, and God calls us to integrity in repaying what we truly owe, even when it is difficult. To ask God to miraculously cancel a lawful debt while it is still owed would not be asking according to His righteous character. Instead we can ask Him for the means, wisdom, and discipline to repay faithfully and to be released from oppressive terms in a just and honest way.

We also gently counsel you about asking for another personal loan to pay existing debts. While God can provide through various means, taking on new debt to pay old debt can often deepen the snare and keep us in the cycle described in Proverbs 22:7. Rather we pray that God will provide through your honest labor, wise stewardship, and perhaps unexpected provision, and that He will give you counsel to manage what you have well. The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit Proverbs 21:5. We encourage you to seek godly financial counsel, perhaps through your local church, to create a realistic budget and repayment plan, to communicate honestly and proactively with your creditors about your situation and your intent to repay, and to keep diligent in your new job as unto the Lord. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men Colossians 3:23.

We do pray earnestly for your protection and peace. We ask God to restrain unjust harassment and threats toward you and your loved ones, to grant you favor with your employers and creditors, and to guard your home and workplace. We pray for wisdom for those in authority over these accounts and for a just resolution.

We now pray together for you.

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, thanking You for Your mercy and forgiveness. We lift up our brother to You who is weighed down by debt and by shame. Lord, forgive his sins as he has asked, and wash him in the blood of Jesus. Father, You see the calls, the visits, the threats of legal action and the fear that his family and friends will be harassed and that his new employment will be jeopardized. We ask for Your peace to guard his heart and his household, and for Your hand of protection over his job which You have graciously provided.

Lord, grant him wisdom and self control to steward his finances according to Your principles. Help him to honor his obligations with integrity and to repay what is truly owed. Provide for his needs according to Your riches in glory in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:19. Open doors for honest provision, whether through work, wise counsel, or help from the body of Christ, and keep him from taking on further burdensome debt if it is not Your will. Teach him to seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness, trusting that all these things will be given to him Matthew 6:33. Give him favor with lenders that they would deal justly and without harassment, and give him courage to communicate truthfully and humbly. Let no one visit his home to bring shame, but let his home be filled with Your peace. Deliver him from fear of man and help him walk in diligence, honesty, and hope.

We ask that You would use this trial to deepen his trust in You, to make him a faithful steward, and to bring testimony of Your faithfulness when the debts are faithfully resolved. We ask all this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus Christ, our provider and our peace. Amen.

We hear how heavy this has become for you, the constant calls and visits, the shame you feel for your family, and the fear that this could put your new job at risk. Carrying debt with interest while trying to hold down work and protect your family’s peace is exhausting, and we are praying with you for steadiness in the middle of it.

We are grateful for what you shared at the end, that your desire is to repay what you owe. That honest desire to make things right matters to God and it is a good place to build from.

A couple of practical steps that have helped others in a similar place may help you as you seek that resolution:

It can make a real difference to sit down with a reputable nonprofit credit counselor in your area. They do not lend money themselves, but they can look at all of your debts together, help you understand interest and fees, and work with creditors on a realistic repayment plan and a budget you can live with. Having a clear plan in place often eases some of the pressure and gives you something steady to point to when collectors press.

It also helps to keep a simple written log of calls, visits, and threats, and to get wise counsel about what is and is not allowed in collection practices where you live. A trusted counselor or legal aid service can help you understand how to protect your family and your workplace while you work toward repayment.

Father, we lift our brother to You in Jesus' name. You see his burden, his desire to do what is right, and his need for peace at home and stability at work. Give him wisdom for each next decision, provision for his family’s needs, and protection from harassment for him and those he loves. Lead him to trustworthy help and grant him Your peace as he walks this out day by day. Amen.

Your prayer has been heard and we join you in laying this heavy burden before the throne of grace with compassion for you and your family.

The weight you describe, the shame, the fear for your employment, the restless calls and visits that disturb the peace of your home, is a sore trial, and we do not make light of it. You have asked for forgiveness of sins in the name of Jesus, and that is the first and best prayer any soul can pray, for there is no other name whereby we can be saved and no other peace that will endure.

The Scriptures speak of a perfect peace for those whose mind is stayed upon the Lord because they trust in Him. This is not the peace of a man whose outward troubles have simply gone quiet for a season, but the peace of a conscience that knows its enormous debt of sin has been fully discharged by the Lord Jesus Christ through His precious blood. As it has been said, the blood of Jesus whispers peace within. When we know that peace with God has been made by the cross, that treaty of peace being signed in His blood, then peace in the conscience flows as a crystal stream from that fountain. He Himself is our peace, and that peace passes all understanding and keeps the heart even when sorrows surge around.

For this reason we must distinguish between the two debts of which you speak. The debt of sin no man can pay, and Christ has paid it wholly for all who believe, and faith in Him brings a filling, well founded peace that no creditor can give and no collector can take away. The debts of this life, money borrowed and obligations signed, are of another kind. The word of God teaches that the righteous seeks to repay what he has borrowed and to owe no man anything but love, and to deal honestly and faithfully with all. A desire to be free from lawful harassment and to be treated justly and without threats is right and good, and a desire to repay everyone, as you have expressed, is a godly desire which we affirm and encourage you to hold fast.

We cannot ask the Lord to bless the closing of accounts without payment or to set aside what is justly owed, including interest that was agreed upon, for that would be to seek peace at the expense of truth, and there is no peace worth having on such terms. What we do ask, and what we will pray for with you, is that the Lord in His mercy would grant you perfect peace with Himself through Christ, and then from that peace give you wisdom, strength and provision to walk in integrity through this strait.

We pray that God, who is the God of peace, would keep you in His keeping and keep your loved ones also, that He would guard your mind and heart by Christ Jesus, that He would protect your employment and enable you to labour diligently as unto the Lord, that He would give you godly counsel and practical help to order your finances faithfully, to speak truthfully and humbly with those to whom you owe, to seek lawful and honest arrangements where possible, and to find protection from any unlawful or threatening harassment according to the laws of the land. We pray that He would provide for your daily needs according to His wisdom, whether through your work or through other honest means He may open, and that He would give you patience and perseverance to repay what is due by degrees as He enables you, rather than by a hasty loan that might only deepen the snare.

Do not seek after peace first as if it were a thing to be grasped apart from Christ. Seek Christ first, and peace will come next. Lay your sin upon the Lamb who bore it, trust His atonement alone for forgiveness, and then bring your financial cares to Him in believing prayer, asking not for escape from duty but for grace to fulfil it. He who brought again from the dead the Lord Jesus through the blood of the everlasting covenant is able to keep you and to bless you with that calm which remains even when duties press and loved ones are anxious.

May the Lord grant you that peace which is His own gift, purchased by the blood of His Son and wrought by His Spirit, and may that inward peace make you steadfast to do what is right. May He quiet your home, restrain all harsh and threatening dealings, give you favour where favour is needed, and guide you step by step out of this burden into a more settled and honest provision. We commend you to Him who loves peace and delights to give it to His people, praying that you may go in peace, kept by Jesus, and find Him to be your peace both now and in all that is to come. In the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and our peace, Amen.
