Strengthening Medicine for God’s Servants
God’s promise to never fail or forsake His servants means you can face any challenge with divine strength and provision.
A Welcome Discovery
God often places the relief we need right beside us if we would only open our eyes to see it.
Thank you for sharing your heart so openly and honestly. Your desire for strength, for healing, for direction and to be a faithful father is good, and God hears that cry.

What you need most deeply is not just a new set of rules or a routine to follow, but a living, loving relationship with God as your Father. Jesus taught us to pray, Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, because God wants to be known by you in that close, intimate way. He does not want a distant, legal or ritual connection where you try to earn His favor by keeping a regimen. He wants a relationship of love, where your sin is forgiven through the blood of Jesus Christ and His law is written on your heart. That is the foundation for everything else. Scripture shows that your relationship with God is primary. When that vertical relationship is right, the other relationships and areas of life begin to come into balance. When it is out of order, everything else becomes out of order, and we can often trace struggles in other relationships back to our need to be restored to Him first.

This is especially important in your battle with addiction. Willpower and works alone cannot give you a right standing before God, and they cannot produce lasting change on their own. Only Jesus can give you that right standing. Fruit is the natural result of relationship. When you are made alive to God through faith in Christ, and you walk with Him in the Spirit day by day, what you struggled to do in your own strength begins to happen as a natural outcome of that new life. God does not want to keep you in bondage to a system of trying harder. He wants to set you free to love Him and to find that you no longer want what once controlled you because you want what pleases your Father. Stay close to Him, be honest about temptation, lean on His strength and on wise and godly help He provides, and let each day be lived in dependence on Him.

Your longing to be a great father to your newborn child reflects the heart of God the Father toward you. He created us for fellowship with Him, and sin separates us from Him, but through Jesus that fellowship is restored. As you grow in knowing how much He loves you and forgives you, that love will enhance every other relationship you have. It will shape you as a father to love with patience, compassion and faithfulness, to provide, to protect and to model a life that follows Jesus. Seek to know Him first, and ask Him to make you the father your child needs, one who walks in love and truth.

For the relationship you mentioned, I will pray that God brings healing and restoration according to His perfect will and His design. God's Word teaches that marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, and that sexual intimacy and sharing a home as a couple belong within that covenant. Whatever the history or nature of this relationship, the best prayer is that God would be honored in it, that both of you would be drawn closer to Jesus, and that any restoration would be in a way that is holy, loving and pleasing to Him. If restoration is according to His will, may it be built on that foundation. If He has a different path, may He give you grace to follow Him and to walk in purity and love.

I am praying for you, that God will give you strength for each step of recovery, that He will deepen your intimate relationship with Him through Jesus, that He will guide your steps, provide for your needs and open the doors that are according to His purpose. True blessing is found first in knowing Him, and from that all other blessings find their right place. May the Lord keep you, strengthen you by His Spirit, and lead you in the newness of life in Christ.
