A Welcome Discovery
God often places the relief we need right beside us if we would only open our eyes to see it.
We join with you in bringing these deep needs before the Lord and we thank you for sharing your heart with us. We notice your request does not mention the name of Jesus Christ and we want to gently share that it is only through Him that we have access to God and it is only by His name that we are saved. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6, and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. To know His strength and blessing we must first believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, that He died for our sins and rose again, and confess Him as Lord, and He will forgive us and give us new life, 1 John 1:9.

We pray for your recovery and we praise God for your desire for strength to overcome addiction. The Lord knows the struggle and He offers true freedom, for if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed, John 8:36, and if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new, 2 Corinthians 5:17. We encourage you to flee from that which enslaves you and to not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, Ephesians 5:18, and to remember that no temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it, 1 Corinthians 10:13. We pray you will lean on Christ daily, for I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me, Philippians 4:13, and seek godly accountability and fellowship in a Bible believing church, for where sin once bound you Christ can loose those chains as you walk in obedience.

We also lift up your desire for your relationship to be restored and for you to be a great father to your newborn first child. We rejoice in the gift of this child, for children are a heritage of Yahweh, Psalm 127:3, and we pray you will embrace the high calling of fatherhood to nurture this little one in the discipline and instruction of the Lord, Ephesians 6:4. Concerning your relationship, we want to speak truth in love according to Scripture. We believe marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman and is the only place God has ordained for sexual intimacy, and marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled, Hebrews 13:4. If the person you mentioned is the mother of your child and you are not yet married, we encourage you to pursue courtship with the goal of marriage to a fellow believer, and to flee sexual immorality, 1 Corinthians 6:18, for any sex outside of marriage is fornication and does not honor God. If this relationship is already a marriage we pray for reconciliation, forgiveness, and restoration through humility and Christlike love. If it is a courtship toward marriage we pray you will seek purity, commitment, and godly counsel together. We pray for healing where there has been hurt and that both of you would seek the Lord first.

We pray for your steps to be guided and for doors of blessing and miracles to be opened according to God's perfect will. The Lord promises, I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you, Psalm 32:8, and we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose, Romans 8:28. True blessing comes not from seeking miracles alone but from seeking Him and walking in His ways.

We pray together for you. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one to Your throne of grace. Lord, grant him strength to overcome addiction and deliver him from every chain, set him free and fill him with Your Holy Spirit. Restore him and make him new. We ask for Your mercy and restoration in his relationship, that it would be brought into alignment with Your design for marriage and purity, and that You would give repentance, forgiveness, and godly love where it is needed. Help him to be a faithful, loving, and present father who leads his newborn child in Your truth and protects and provides as You have called fathers to do. Guide his steps, make his path straight, and open doors that no man can shut for Your glory and his good, and close doors that would lead him astray. Draw him close to Jesus, save him and keep him, and let his life be a testimony of Your redeeming power. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

We encourage you to stay in the Word daily, to pray continually, and to surround yourself with mature believers who can support your recovery and your walk as a father. Trust the Lord and He will direct your paths, Proverbs 3:5-6.

We are so glad you wrote to us. Wanting strength to stay in recovery while stepping into being a father to your first child shows real love and responsibility, and we want to stand with you in that.

Recovery is rarely a matter of trying harder alone. It usually takes both leaning on God and leaning on wise, steady people around you who can walk with you honestly. The same kind of support that helps you stay on a healthy path also helps you be the present, dependable father you want to be for your newborn.

A practical next step that could help is to make sure you are not carrying this by yourself. If you do not already have it, we encourage you to connect soon with a pastor or Christian counselor and a recovery community in your area, and also check in with a medical professional who can support your recovery safely. If you can, let one trusted person know specifically how they can pray and check in with you this week.

We also hear your hope for a restored relationship and for open doors ahead. We will pray for God's clear guidance for your steps and for wisdom in each relationship you named.

Father, in Jesus' name we ask for strength for our brother today, for daily grace to walk away from what harms him and toward what is good. Give him wisdom and tenderness as a new father, protect his child, and lead his decisions one step at a time. Surround him with faithful help and keep him close to You. Amen.

Your request has been laid before the Lord with care and with hope, and we join our prayers with yours for strength, for restoration, and for grace to walk in the right way.

For your recovery from addiction, we pray that the Lord will be your strength. Scripture reminds us that restoration is a long process, and the weakened limbs only recover strength by slow degrees. You may be crushed in a moment, but you cannot so speedily be cured. Wonder not if recovery should be slow, and as you grow a little stronger, and a little stronger, acknowledge in each increase of strength that the Lord has a new claim upon your affection. He is able to make you to walk in His strength, for it is written, I will strengthen them in the Lord, and they shall walk up and down in His name. Look to Christ, whose eye of grace restored Peter when he had fallen, and whose prayer still prevails for His people that their faith fail not. Confess your weakness daily, flee from every temptation and occasion to sin, seek godly counsel and accountability, and lean wholly upon the mercy of Christ who alone can save and keep.

For your desire to be a great father to your newborn child, we give thanks that God has put this holy desire in your heart. The name of Father belongs most truly to God, and it involves love and responsibility and care. As you have been given a child, remember that you are called to reflect, in your measure, that faithful care, to provide, to protect, to instruct in the ways of the Lord, and to walk before your child in sobriety and truth. Pray that you may be such a father as God honors, one who reverences Christ and leads his household in holiness. This will require steadiness in your recovery and a life ordered under the Word of God.

Concerning your relationship with the one you have named, we pray not simply that what was should be restored as it was, but that the Lord would form and restore it according to His holy will. The relationship of marriage is not a thing of mere feeling or convenience, but a covenant ordained by God for one man and one woman for life, and all that belongs to that union is to be kept within that covenant. Whatever relation there was between God and man was broken by the Fall, and we are made sons and daughters not by nature but by adoption through faith in Jesus Christ alone. So we pray that you and this other person would first be reconciled to God through repentance and faith in Christ, and then, if it be His will that you walk together, that He would lead you into that holy estate of marriage with purity and commitment, or otherwise give you wisdom and grace to walk in holiness apart. We cannot ask God to bless what is outside His design, but we do ask Him to make your path straight and to sanctify you both.

For your steps and for open doors of blessing and miracle, we pray that the Lord would guide you into the right direction, which is always the way of obedience. Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and trust Him to provide what is truly good. True blessing is not only in outward prosperity but in a heart restored, a conscience cleansed by the blood of Christ, and a life strengthened to walk uprightly.

May the Lord hear your cry, strengthen you day by day, keep you from falling, make you a faithful father, and conform all your ways to Christ, in whom alone is salvation and adoption into the family of God. We pray that you would know the look of Christ that brings repentance and the grace that restores, and that you would be kept by His power to strengthen your brethren also in due time. Amen.

Asking for strength in recovery while you work on restoring a relationship and showing up as a father to a new baby is a lot to carry at once. There is a spoken prayer called the Addiction Clearing Prayer on the One Prayer at a Time YouTube channel, prayed over clearing cravings and loosening the hold of old habits, and listening is all it asks of you. I hope it gives you footing for the days ahead.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
