Leah B.

Humble Servant of All
I just took my first two sodium alginate capsules that I am trying to use as an adjunct to my omeprazole to treat gastroesophageal reflux [GERD] as well as I am now 100% sure is laryngopharyngeal reflux [LPR] as well. I have been living on bland, lousy food for three days now. Symptoms are down but not resolved. Chronic sore throat. I just have too much stuff wrong with me to care anymore. Fought very hard to make my COPD manageable and live a fairly normal life. Then I fought very hard to overcome TMJ and jaw movement disorder. Now this. I don't want to fight any more. I don't want to try any more. I thought the omeprazole would let me eat normally. That was my choice, to eat a normal diet and take meds. I believe major stressors, lack of sleep and then the prednisone course kicked me into a major flare, but I also know all these symptoms I suffered and suffered through were not from my COPD. They are from GERD and LPR. I just didn't connect the dots. Anyway, please in Jesus's name pray this sodium alginate works. Please pray in Jesus's name I can find SOME middle ground here: I don't want to be on this bland diet forever. I want to eat real food that tastes good! The GERD diet is horrendous. I would rather follow a diet for diabetes, just watch carbs and sugar, than follow this diet! It's all healthy, delicious food like orange juice and tomatoes and spices that are bad for GERD-- I'm crying writing this. I love to cook. I love food. I don't overeat or anything. If I have one alcoholic drink, I don't even usually finish it. Why? Why? Never to eat a tomato sauce again? No garlic??? This is just too cruel! Please in Jesus's name let there be some middle ground at least. I HATE this diet! I hate it. Please in Jesus's name also pray if the sodium alginate helps me, I can always afford it. Amen.

We hear the deep weariness in your spirit, the frustration of battling one health challenge after another, and the grief of losing the simple joy of food that you love. Your body is under siege, and the relentless nature of these struggles has left you feeling defeated. We want you to know that your pain is seen, and your cries have reached the heart of God. In Psalm 34:18, it says, "Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." You are not forgotten, and you are not alone in this fight.

First, we must address the despair that has crept into your heart. It is understandable to feel overwhelmed, but we cannot allow hopelessness to take root. Jesus tells us in John 16:33, "In the world you have oppression, but cheer up! I have overcome the world." Even in the midst of physical suffering, we are called to hold fast to the hope we have in Christ. He is our strength when we are weak, and He promises to sustain us. We rebuke the spirit of despair that whispers lies of surrender, and we declare that your fight is not in vain. God is with you, and He will not abandon you.

We lift up your health before the Lord, praying specifically for the sodium alginate and omeprazole to work effectively in your body. We ask that God would bless this treatment, bringing relief to your esophagus, throat, and stomach. In James 5:14-15, it says, "Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will raise him up." We stand in faith, believing that God can bring healing and restoration to your body. We also pray for wisdom for your doctors and for any adjustments that may be needed in your treatment plan.

Your grief over the dietary restrictions is valid, and we mourn with you over the loss of foods that bring you joy. Food is a gift from God, meant to be enjoyed, and it is painful to feel as though that gift has been taken away. However, we encourage you to seek God’s perspective on this trial. In 1 Corinthians 10:31, it says, "Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." Even in this season of restriction, you can honor God by stewarding your body well and trusting Him to provide. We pray that He would reveal creative ways for you to enjoy food within these boundaries, and that He would give you peace as you navigate this challenge.

We also want to gently address the emotional and spiritual toll this has taken on you. Chronic illness can lead to feelings of isolation, anger, and even bitterness. We encourage you to bring these emotions before the Lord, laying them at His feet. In Psalm 62:8, it says, "Trust in him at all times, you people. Pour out your heart before him. God is a refuge for us." God can handle your raw emotions, and He invites you to cast your burdens on Him. We pray that He would fill you with His peace that surpasses all understanding, guarding your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.

Regarding the financial concern about affording the sodium alginate, we trust that God will provide for your needs. In Philippians 4:19, it says, "My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." We pray that He would open doors for provision, whether through insurance, assistance programs, or unexpected blessings. You are not alone in this, and we stand with you in faith, believing that God will make a way.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our dear brother/sister who is battling GERD, LPR, COPD, and the emotional weight of these struggles. Lord, You see the weariness in their heart, the frustration of dietary restrictions, and the physical pain they endure. We ask that You would pour out Your healing touch upon their body, blessing the treatments they are taking and bringing relief to their esophagus, throat, and stomach. Father, we declare Your promise in Jeremiah 30:17, "For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds," and we stand in faith, believing that You are at work in their body.

Lord, we rebuke the spirit of despair and hopelessness that has tried to take hold. We declare that this trial will not break them, but that You will use it to draw them closer to You. Fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and remind them that You are their strength in weakness. Help them to trust in You, even when the path is difficult, and give them the grace to endure.

Father, we also pray for provision. You know the financial concerns they have, and we ask that You would supply every need according to Your riches in glory. Open doors for assistance, and provide in ways that only You can. Lord, we also ask that You would give them joy in the midst of this trial. Help them to find creative ways to enjoy food within these restrictions, and remind them that even in this season, they can honor You with their choices.

Finally, Lord, we ask that You would surround them with Your love and the support of Your people. Let them feel Your presence in tangible ways, and remind them that they are never alone. We thank You for hearing our prayer, and we trust You to move mightily on their behalf. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
