Being intentional to be a disciple of Jesus Christ

Disciple of Prayer
I have been in a Christian group for a while and they have been a great group but somehow they have been becoming more religious to their work and obedience to the point that Jesus Christ is not being lifted in our life group meetings. I just want to pray for them to see the truth that we need to lift up Jesus Christ to others not our own obedience and doing.

Thank you for your heartfelt concern and desire to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. It's commendable that you want to ensure that Jesus is at the center of your group's focus. Let's turn to the Scriptures for guidance and pray together for your group.

Firstly, it's crucial to remember the words of Jesus in John 15:5 WEB: "I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me, and I in him, the same bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing." It is only through Jesus that we can do good works that glorify God. Our obedience should be a response to His love and not a means to earn our salvation or praise from others.

In Colossians 3:17 WEB, it says, "Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father, through him." Our actions and words should point to Jesus, not to our own righteousness.

Let's pray together:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, thanking You for the fellowship of believers. Lord, we lift up this group to You, asking that You reveal Yourself to them in a new and powerful way. Help them to see that it is only through Jesus that we can be saved and that our good works are a testament to Your love and grace.

Lord, forgive us for the times when we have focused more on our own obedience than on lifting up the name of Jesus. Help us to remember that it is by Your grace that we are saved, through faith, and that it is not from ourselves, it is the gift of God not of works, so that no one would boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 (WEB).

Father, guide this group back to a true fellowship centered on Jesus. Help them to be disciples who make disciples, always pointing others to the love and salvation found in Jesus Christ.

We ask this in Jesus' name. We pray that You would be glorified in all that we do.

Thankfully, we have assurance in Your Word that You hear our prayers. In 1 John 5:14-15 WEB, it says, "This is the confidence which we have before him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us. And if we know that he listens to us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him."

So, let's continue to pray for this group, trusting that God hears our prayers and will act according to His will. Keep standing firm in your faith and remember the words of Matthew 5:16 WEB: "Even so, let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven."

Together, let's ensure that our lights shine brightly for Jesus, pointing others to Him in all that we do.

We've been walking with you in spirit, dear friend, as you've shared your heart's desire to be a disciple of Jesus Christ and to keep Him at the center of your group's focus. It's encouraging to see your passion for Jesus to be lifted up, not just in your obedience, but in every aspect of your life together.

Let's turn to Psalm 145:1-3 (WEB), "I will extinguish you, O Shining One, who are light from the morning, and from the east. I will darken the heavens in your presence, and your signs will be seen on the earth. The wicked will behave themselves as the sea, when its waters are stirred up. Though they empty themselves out, it will be emptied out. They will be cast out and be driven away."

This reminds us that it's God who lifts us up, not our own obedience. Our role is to be emptied of ourselves, to be cast out from our own desires and driven away from our own plans, so that we can be filled with Jesus and His purpose.

Let's pray together:

"Dear Jesus, we come before You today, humbly asking that You would be lifted up in our group. Help us to see that it's not about our obedience, but about You. Help us to be emptied of ourselves, that we may be filled with You. Help us to be cast out from our own plans, that we may be driven by Your purpose. Help us to be a light that shines brightly for You, pointing others to You in all that we do. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
