Be truthful 13 Jul 2026 Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart. - Psalm 51:6 Devotional: The Bible teaches that purity of conduct includes truthfulness. The Bible teaches that we should be truthful in our representation of ourselves. With what scorn Christ denounced the hypocrisy of the scribes and Pharisees! In the Sermon on the Mount He rebuked all hypocritical giving, praying, and fasting. We should also be truthful in speaking of our past achievements in our particular vocation. God does not ask us to understate the facts-that might even be untruthfulness-but neither does He want us to overrate our achievements or our gifts, either in thought or in speech. A lie is anything contrary to the naked truth. As Jesus tells us, let our yes be yes and your no be no. Speak and think in truth Prayer: Lord of heaven and earth, it is so easy, to embellish the truth. Give me Your wisdom to be completely honest in every phase of my life. IN Jesus' name, Amen.

We hear your heartfelt cry for truthfulness and purity in every aspect of life, and we stand with you in seeking God’s wisdom to walk in integrity. The psalmist’s words in Psalm 51:6 resonate deeply: "Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart." God does not merely desire outward conformity but a heart that is wholly aligned with His truth. Jesus Himself warned against hypocrisy, declaring in Matthew 23:28, "Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity." The Lord sees beyond our words and actions, He examines the motives of our hearts.

Your prayer acknowledges the subtle ways dishonesty can creep into our lives, through exaggeration, self-promotion, or even the omission of truth. Scripture is clear that lying is an abomination to the Lord (Proverbs 12:22), and as believers, we are called to reflect Christ’s character, who is "the way, the truth, and the life" (John 14:6). This means our speech, our thoughts, and even our social media presence should be governed by truth, not the fleeting approval of others. Let us remember that "a false balance is an abomination to Yahweh, but accurate weights are his delight" (Proverbs 11:1). Whether in our vocations, relationships, or personal testimonies, we must resist the temptation to present ourselves as something we are not.

We also recognize that truthfulness extends beyond mere words, it encompasses our actions, our commitments, and our faithfulness to God’s Word. If we claim to follow Christ but live in deception, we dishonor His name. James 5:12 exhorts us, "But above all things, my brothers, don’t swear, neither by heaven, nor by the earth, nor by any other oath; but let your ‘yes’ be ‘yes,’ and your ‘no’ be ‘no,’ so that you don’t fall into hypocrisy." This is not just about avoiding outright lies but about cultivating a life of transparency before God and others.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You, the God of all truth, and we ask for Your forgiveness where we have fallen short in honesty, whether in our speech, our thoughts, or our actions. Lord, we confess that at times we have sought to impress others rather than honor You, and we have allowed pride to distort the truth. Cleanse our hearts, O God, and renew a right spirit within us. Teach us to walk in integrity, that our lives may reflect Your holiness. Give us the courage to speak the truth in love, even when it is difficult, and to resist the temptation to embellish or deceive. May our words and deeds align with Your Word, and may we find our worth in You alone, not in the approval of man. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the One who is the Truth and who sets us free. Amen.

We encourage you to meditate on Ephesians 4:25, which says, "Therefore, putting away falsehood, speak truth each one with his neighbor, for we are members of one another." Truthfulness is not just a personal virtue but a testimony to the world of Christ’s transforming power. As you seek to live honestly, remember that God’s grace is sufficient to help you overcome every temptation to deceive. Walk in the light, and let your life be a beacon of His truth.

It’s so good that you’re bringing this desire for truthfulness before God. When you long to be honest in every part of life, even the small things, something deeply right is stirring. We’ve seen that real integrity doesn’t come from gritting our teeth and trying harder; it grows as we learn to live openly with God, who already sees the inward being and delights in truth there. He isn’t waiting to catch you exaggerating, he’s the one who gives wisdom in those secret places where we rehearse what we’re going to say or quietly twist a story to protect our image.

A small, gentle next step might be simply this: when you feel that inner nudge to embellish or shade the truth, pause and silently offer that moment to God right then. You don’t have to manage it alone. Just breathe and ask, “Lord, give me the courage to say what’s real.” Over time, that simple act can turn truthfulness from a rule you force on yourself into a quiet connection with him.

We also find it helps to let Scripture do its searching work. The psalmist’s prayer “Search me, O God, and know my heart” (Psalm 139:23-24) is an invitation, not a threat, to let God gently show us where we’ve drifted from plain honesty, and to receive the forgiveness and fresh clarity he always offers. When we stumble, confessing it simply to him and maybe to a trusted friend can drain the shame that fuels more half-truth.

Let’s pray:

Father, thank you that you delight in truth deep within us. We lift up this person who wants to live openly before you and others. Fill their heart with your steady peace, and give them small, daily victories in choosing honesty, especially when it’s hard. Teach them wisdom in the secret places of their thoughts, and let their words carry the quiet strength of someone who knows they are fully known and fully loved by you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Truth in the inward parts, that is the vital matter. The prayer is well offered, for no outward show of honesty avails if the heart be not cleansed from guile. You have touched the very nerve of godliness: not the polished speech, but the naked truth before the eyes of Him with whom we have to do. The heart is the key of the entire position, and until that heart is made true, every word upon the tongue and every act of the hand is but the tinkling of a bell of brass.

Observe well that even the cry for truthfulness springs not from an old heart, but from a new one. No man ever truly yearned for inward purity until the Spirit of God had begun His secret work. That very groaning after honesty is the first breath of the new nature. Yet be watchful, for the heart is desperately cunning, it will flatter a man even about his sins and make him think his hunger is already a feast. The divided heart is guilty before the Lord; it halts between Christ and the world, and that halting is deadly. A small prick in the heart may kill, and the wound of insincerity is fatal.

But there is a Healer for the broken and the false heart. The love of God shed abroad by the Holy Ghost is the only cure. Bring your heart, bleeding and treacherous as it is, to the bleeding heart of Jesus. He will stanch its wounds and write His law upon its softened tablets. He alone can give the heart of flesh in place of the stone. Then shall your yes be yes, and your no be no, because Christ Himself is formed in you the hope of glory. Seek not to mend the old nature; despair of it utterly, and look to the Lord for a new heart and a right spirit. When that is done, truthfulness will no longer be a struggle of the will but the sweet perfume of the renewed man.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The prayer you have offered to the Lord this day is a noble one, for nothing defiles a soul so quickly as the habit of stretching the truth, even by a little. Yet many who plead for honesty in their words have not first rooted out the falsehood in their heart. The end of the commandment is love out of a pure heart, a good conscience, and faith unfeigned. If you pray for complete honesty in every phase of your life, then understand that you are asking to be delivered from hypocrisy, not merely from visible lies. For a man may speak what is factually true while his whole life remains a whited sepulcher, full of uncleanness within, because his motive is vainglory and not love.

Let your yes be yes not with faintheartedness but with a true heart. Faintheartedness comes from not believing, and an impure life produces divisions. When you embellish your achievements, even slightly, you are not simply altering words; you are showing that your mind is not deeply grounded, still wavering like a youthful lust. Flee those imaginations. They proceed from a heart not yet established in the wisdom of the secret place. The apostles, when they spoke, did so with boldness and delight even in chains, because they testified to what they had seen and heard. They hid no faults, their own or others, but recorded all with great veracity. That is the mark of a soul taught by God.

Do not then ask only for truthful speech, but for the love that makes such speech inevitable. Cultivate friendship with the brethren and live honestly in the duties of your home; for if you have no sweetness in a wife and children by living honorably, you will seek it in vain pleasures that lead to deceit. Let your whole life be a drawing near with a true heart, so that no one may stumble because of your insincerity. The one who would not eat to avoid offending a weaker brother shows what it means to forego even lawful things for love. If you do this, you will find that the prayer you prayed is answered not by a sudden resolve, but by a purified conscience that hates every shadow of falsehood as it hates the loss of the kingdom.

It takes real courage to ask God for wisdom in the secret heart, because that’s where the hardest battles with truth are fought. We all know the temptation to embellish a story just enough to make ourselves look a little better or to cover a moment of fear with a brave front. But the kind of truthfulness the psalmist speaks of isn’t just about avoiding a lie; it’s about becoming a person whose inner being is so aligned with God that there’s no need for pretense.

That starts with bringing your whole self to Him, exactly as you are. If you’re afraid, tell Him. If you’re angry or confused, pour that out. You can’t fool God, and you won’t shock Him. When you’re that raw before Him, He can begin to untangle the motives and shape a genuine integrity within you. That integrity becomes a guide, a steady compass when circumstances make no sense. Think of Job’s testing: his wife told him to curse God and die, but he held on to his integrity even when he couldn’t understand why any of it was happening. He didn’t pretend it didn’t hurt, but he refused to let go of who he knew God to be. And that’s the key: you can maintain your trust and honesty before God even while you’re groping for answers. Don’t judge the whole story by the chapter you’re in tonight.

The world around us often operates on a different set of rules, where stretching the truth seems like a small price for getting ahead or avoiding conflict. But a life built on that kind of shifting sand won’t stand. A poor person who walks in integrity is in a far better place than a perverse person whose lips are full of clever deceptions. What makes the difference is not sheer willpower, but knowing the God you’re dealing with. The more you learn of Jesus, the more you trust Him, and the more that trust flows out as simple, unadorned honesty in every part of your life. You set a pattern, too, one that your children or anyone watching you can follow safely.

So when you feel that nudge to embellish or present a polished version of yourself, stop and ask the Lord to teach you wisdom in that secret place. Let your yes be yes. You don’t have to understate the truth or overrate your achievements. Just stand on the level ground of His mercy, and as you walk in that integrity, you’ll find He is faithful to redeem and preserve you.
