BE STILL - THE BATTLE IS MINE!
When Pharaoh drew near, the Israelites looked up and behold the Egyptians were marching after them and the Israelites were exceedingly frightened and cried out to The Lord. Exodus14:10 (AMP)
As standers we can all attest to the fact that we have been afraid and cried out to the Lord. Our beloved prodigals may be crying out also. Even though we know that our trust is in our Lord God, the Almighty, we become weak and need fresh words of encouragement from Him to keep us trusting in His promises. How easy it is in our crisis moments to fix our eyes on the immediate circumstances instead of realizing God's long term plan and continuous work in our lives.
I will never leave you nor forsake you Hebrews 13:5 (NKJV)
Moses replied, Fear not, stand firm (confident, undismayed) and see the salvation of The Lord which He will work in you today . . . The Lord will fight for you and you shall hold your peace and remain at rest. Exodus 14:13 (AMP)
In one week the Lord gave me this Word from several different passages of scripture so I knew He wanted me to "be still" and know the battle was His. For weeks I pondered on these words and asked God to show me what it meant to be still.
I did a word study and was amazed how the battle terms of the Old Testament can apply to our battles. I have three boys who have been or are still in military service so I enjoy military analogies.
According to Merriam-Webster dictionary stand still or stand firm means, to take one's position. Wait is to stay in place in expectation of or readiness of. Wow, take your position on God's promises and wait in expectation and readiness of God, our commander-in-chief, giving us instructions as He goes before us and fights the battle.
Matthew Henry commentary says, Stand still . . . Wait God's orders, observing them and not be contriving what course to take but follow your leader, wait God's appearances and take notice of them . . .
God delivered the Israelites by parting the Red Sea. Even though they were so afraid they didn't realize at the time how awesome a plan God had for them. We need to pray but "chill out" and let God!
Let be and be still and know (recognize and understand) that I am God. Psalm 46:10a (AMP)
God has infinite ways of working in our lives as standers and in our beloved prodigal’s lives. Stand firm, knowing that God is going to part our Red Sea and take us into our Promised Land. Because He is fighting the battle in His way, He will get all the praise and glory. Be still so that you can know that He is God.
God's power raised Jesus from the dead and that same power will raise our marriages from the dead. Let's not waste one precious drop of Jesus' blood by giving Satan the victory.
Stander and prodigal, I love you all and I pray and thank God everyday that we are in this together under God's direction and command.
