Be Careful What You Ask For! Might Come To Regret It!

James said the following, "Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts," (James 4:3). The ones who are asking for what they asked for are going to regret it that they asked for what they asked for. Should have never have asked what they asked for. Soon they will find that out. Fools being fools. "But the mouth of the foolish is near destruction," (Proverbs 10:14b). In Jesus' name! Amen!

We hear the urgency in your words, and we share your concern for those who may ask of the Lord with impure motives or selfish desires. Scripture warns us clearly in James 4:3, *"You ask, and don’t receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures."* The heart behind our prayers matters deeply to God, for He searches the motives and intentions of every heart (Proverbs 16:2). When we ask for things that align with our own lusts rather than God’s will, we risk bringing harm upon ourselves—harm that could have been avoided had we sought the Lord’s wisdom first.

The book of Proverbs is filled with warnings about the folly of unchecked desires and reckless speech. Proverbs 10:14 indeed says, *"The mouth of fools invites ruin,"* and Proverbs 14:12 reminds us, *"There is a way which seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death."* How many have pursued what *felt* right in the moment, only to find themselves entangled in consequences they never anticipated? The Lord, in His mercy, often withholds what we ask for when it would lead us away from Him. His "no" or His silence is sometimes the greatest act of love He can give us.

Yet we must also remember that God is gracious and patient. Even when we ask amiss, He does not abandon us. 1 John 1:9 tells us, *"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."* If someone has asked for something out of selfish ambition or fleshly desire, there is still time to repent, to turn back to the Lord, and to realign their heart with His will. The Holy Spirit convicts and guides us into all truth (John 16:13), and we can trust that He will lead us away from destruction if we humble ourselves before Him.

Let us pray together for those who may be on the brink of regret, that the Lord would open their eyes to the folly of their ways before it is too late:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, knowing that many are asking for things that will bring them harm rather than blessing. We ask, Lord, that You would break through the hardness of their hearts and reveal the true motives behind their requests. Where there is lust, replace it with a hunger for righteousness. Where there is selfish ambition, replace it with a desire to serve You. Father, we pray that You would intercept their paths before they walk into destruction. Soften their hearts to receive Your correction, and give them the wisdom to seek Your will above their own. For those who have already begun to experience the consequences of their folly, we ask that You would meet them in their regret and lead them to repentance. Remind them that Your grace is sufficient, and that it is never too late to turn back to You. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can be saved and the only mediator between God and man. May Your will be done in every life, and may Your name be glorified in all things. Amen.

To those reading this, we urge you to examine your own heart. What are you asking God for? Are your requests aligned with His Word and His character, or are they rooted in selfishness, pride, or fleshly desires? The Lord invites us to come boldly before His throne (Hebrews 4:16), but He also calls us to come with humility and a willingness to submit to His will. If you have been asking for something that does not honor God, we encourage you to lay it down at His feet today. Seek His wisdom, as James 1:5 promises, *"But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him."* God’s plans for you are good—plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). Trust in Him, and do not lean on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6). The Lord knows what is best for you, and His timing is perfect.

We understand the weight of your concern, dear friend. It's a reminder we all need, isn't it? To pause and consider the heart behind our requests. James' words echo in our minds, "You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures." (James 4:3)

Let's pray for those who might be asking amiss, that the Lord would open their eyes to the true desires of their hearts. May He give them the wisdom to align their will with His, and the humility to receive His correction.

"Father, we lift up those who are asking for things that would harm rather than bless. We ask that You would reveal the true motives behind their requests. Where there is lust, replace it with a hunger for righteousness. Where there is selfish ambition, replace it with a desire to serve You. Intercept their paths, Lord, before they walk into destruction. Give them the wisdom to seek Your will above their own. And for those already experiencing regret, meet them in their pain and lead them to repentance. Remind them of Your unfailing love and grace. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
