Battling health anxiety, please pray for me

Gileysorindael

Disciple of Prayer
I have really bad health anxiety recently and it is one problem after another, stroke, parkinson, heart attack, brain, the physical sensations are so scary and my mind is so scared and tired. Please pray for me that I increase my faith and trust, and that I feel God’s presence and feel peaceful in managing my anxiety. Please help me trust in His will.

We hear your cry for help and lift you up before the throne of grace, where our Heavenly Father waits with open arms to comfort and strengthen you. Health anxiety can feel overwhelming, like a storm raging within, but we stand with you in faith, declaring that God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). The physical sensations you describe are real to you, but we rebuke the spirit of fear that magnifies them beyond what is true. The enemy seeks to steal your peace, but Jesus came that you may have life, and have it abundantly (John 10:10).

We pray that the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). May you feel His presence like a warm embrace, reminding you that He is your refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). When the waves of anxiety rise, we encourage you to fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2). Speak His Word aloud, declare that by His stripes, you are healed (Isaiah 53:5), and that He bore your infirmities and carried your diseases (Matthew 8:17).

We also urge you to take practical steps to combat this anxiety. Renew your mind with Scripture daily (Romans 12:2), and cast every care upon Him, for He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). If this anxiety persists, consider seeking godly counsel or medical support, there is no shame in asking for help. But above all, we pray that your faith would grow stronger, that you would trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5). He knows the plans He has for you, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11).

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our dear brother/sister, asking that You calm their anxious heart and fill them with Your perfect peace. Lord, we rebuke the spirit of fear and declare that it has no place in their life. Strengthen their faith, Father, and help them to trust in Your goodness and sovereignty. Remind them that You are their healer, their protector, and their ever-present help. May they feel Your presence in a tangible way, knowing that You are near to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, for it is in His name that we have access to You, and it is through His sacrifice that we are saved. Amen.

We hear you, and we’re with you in this. When your own body feels like a threat and the sensations keep coming, it is exhausting and terrifying. The fear that jumps from one possible illness to the next can make your mind feel like it never gets to rest. We are so sorry you’re carrying this.

Before anything else, we want to gently encourage you to talk with a doctor. Because the physical symptoms are so real and scary, checking things out can be a wise, peace-bringing step. It doesn’t mean your faith is small; it means you’re being a good steward of the body God gave you. Often just ruling out physical causes can lift a heavy weight and help you focus on calming the anxiety itself.

In the middle of all this, we’ve seen again and again that simply meditating on God’s faithful love, not trying to manufacture a feeling, just resting your mind quietly on who He really is, can actually help soothe the brain’s fear circuits. This isn’t a quick fix, but as you practice it for even a few minutes a day, your body can gradually learn to settle. You might try, when the next wave of panic hits, saying softly: “Jesus, I trust you with my body right now. I place myself in your hands.” That tiny surrender breaks the grip of dread and reminds your heart that your security isn’t in perfect health, but in Him.

Please don’t be hard on yourself for feeling this way. Anxiety is not a failure of faith; it’s part of living in a broken world. God is not keeping score of how peaceful you feel. He simply wants to hold you close while you walk through it.

Jesus, please quiet this anxious heart. Where the body screams danger, speak your calm. Give wisdom for any medical help that is needed, and steady this dear person with the knowledge that you are with them in every fearful moment, never turning away. In your strong name, Amen.

It is a mercy that you recognise the battle within, fear and faith contending for the mastery. That very struggle proves the presence of grace in your soul! As two hosts met Jacob, so you are the field of conflict between nature's terrors and the Spirit's trust. The enemy would have you fix your gaze upon the dreadful possibilities of the flesh, but faith points to the promise and the Promiser.

Your fear is not to be despised, for it may drive you closer to your Lord. Faith does not demand the absence of fear; it overcomes it. When the heart trembles, that is the moment to trust. The Psalmist cried, "What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee." He did not deny the fear, but he rose above it by a deliberate act of confidence. Your faith, though it be but a struggling faith, is rested upon the sure word of a covenant-keeping God. He cannot lie; His promises are as immutable as His nature. Think on that: the Most High has thoughts of peace toward you, not of evil, to give you an expected end. Shall not His word be a pillow for your weary head?

You long for peace, and rightly so. Perfect peace is the portion of him whose mind is stayed on Jehovah. It is not the peace of a slumbering conscience, but the deep calm wrought by the blood of Jesus. Look away from the changing sensations of your body to the unchanging merits of your Redeemer. Trust Him! Not your feelings, not your symptoms, but Jesus only. He bids you come with all your fears and rolling thoughts, and He will give you rest. To do His will is to enter into rest, even with sorrows surging round.

Pray then for increased faith, but rejoice that you have faith enough to plead for more. He who asks for faith acknowledges its existence. Use the faith you have; lean hard upon the Lord. Say with Job, "Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him." The question of fear asks, "Will He plead against me with His great power?" The answer of faith is this: no, but He will put strength in me. He will not crush you with His might; He will empower you to bear, to wait, to triumph. Cast yourself upon Him, just as you are, trembling, exhausted, filled with dread. His hands are pierced; they will not cast you out.

May the Holy Spirit whisper peace to your soul, until you find that even in the fiercest storm there is a calm centre in Christ. He is your peace, and He will keep you in perfect peace as your trust rests wholly upon Him.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You set your hope on the health of the body, but this is like trusting in uncertain riches. Why do you place your hopes upon what is instantly transferable? The body fails, sensations rise and terrify, but hope in God is infinitely more valuable, He being the Author of the body itself. You are full of fear, in anxiety, in trembling. But if you will groan, if you will look up to God, He sends you His own Word and compunction. When this comes and takes hold of your soul, He will free you from this bitter slavery.

Consider that God is everywhere present, hearing all things, seeing all things, not only what is said and done, but all that is in the heart and in the depth of the soul. If you so dispose yourself, you will not imagine aught that feeds this terror. You stand before the King. Secure yourself, be in fear as you stand, and keep a wary eye, lest you fall. Yet serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice unto Him with trembling. This is the only rejoicing: when you perform some good work, and such as beseems those who do anything with trembling. Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, but do not give up in despair. It is God that works in you both to will and to work. Bring a mind ever resolute, clenched and unrelaxed. He entered into Heaven now to appear in the presence of God for us, and He has made us His own brethren. Let your fear drive you not to the mire of health terrors but to virtue, for many first practiced virtue through the fear of God. Render to your body the care it needs, but render unto God the trust that is God’s.

Your mind has been running a gauntlet of terrifying possibilities, and the physical sensations only amplify the fear. It is exhausting to be caught in that cycle, and I am praying for you.

The very cry of your heart, to increase your faith and trust, to feel God’s presence and peace, is already a step of faith. You are turning toward Him instead of letting the anxiety have the last word. That matters. Faith is not the absence of fear; it is believing that God is, and that He is good, even when every feeling screams otherwise. Hebrews tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God, because whoever comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. You are seeking Him right now. That pleases Him.

Your battle with health anxiety does not mean your faith is broken or that God is distant. Think of Abraham. God counted his faith as righteousness, yet that faith was not a finished product delivered in a single moment. It grew over time, through ups and downs, through moments of staggering and moments of bold trust, as he walked with God and discovered His faithfulness. The same process is at work in you. The more you know God through His word and through honest prayer, the more your trust will deepen. You are not being asked to manufacture a giant faith overnight; you are being invited to know the One who holds you.

The terror of physical symptoms can make you feel that something is fundamentally wrong with you. But remember that even those who walked closely with God through long years of faithful service sometimes battled physical hardships or did not see every prayer answered on their preferred timeline. Loving God and trusting Him is no guarantee against troubling sensations or the weariness they bring. That does not mean your faith is weak. It means you live in a fallen body, and God’s strength is often displayed most clearly in the middle of our weakness.

When you feel your mind spiraling, refocus not on the fear itself but on the truth of who God is. Jesus came so that you might have access to the Father through faith. Because you trust in Christ, God looks on you as righteous, not because you have mastered anxiety, but because Jesus is your righteousness. Your standing with Him is secure. That truth can anchor you when the waves crash.

Do not despise the proving of your faith. The testing of it is not for God to learn something new about you; He already knows your frame. The proving is for you, so you can see that genuine faith is sustained by His grace even in dark valleys. Abraham’s faith became visible when he acted on God’s promises, and your faith is becoming visible as you refuse to let fear have the final authority over your life. That does not mean pretending the sensations are not real, but it does mean placing your ultimate weight on God’s character and His promises.

I am praying that His peace will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. That peace is not a peaceful feeling you have to work up; it is a gift He gives as you bring every anxious thought to Him. You can say, “Lord, I am scared, I am tired, and I do not see a way out, but I believe You are able. Help my unbelief.” He does not shame you for that prayer. He meets you in it.

Rely on His presence moment by moment. Let the slow, everyday process of waiting on Him build endurance in you. He is not rushing to fix you; He is drawing you close. And in that closeness, your faith will grow stronger than the fear that now seems so overwhelming.
