We have heard your burden concerning this sore wheezing and coughing and the urgent appointments which lie before you, and we have carried it to the throne of grace on your behalf.
The Lord who formed the lungs and gives breath is the same Lord who is our Physician. There is an abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ and His salvation, and as it is written, the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. Not only is His fruit sweet and nourishing, but the least thing about Christ is healing, and those healing leaves change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. When the Sun of Righteousness arises with healing in His wings, pardon and healing are placed in happy conjunction for His people.
Therefore fear not, for so often does the Lord say to His own, Fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will help you. Fear is weakening and dishonors God, and it is disobedience to be afraid when Jesus Himself whispers, Fear not. We pray that you may labor to cast your fear upon Him who says, Fear not, thou worm Jacob, I will help thee, saith the Lord. Let not the fear of man bring a snare, but let the fear of the Lord, which is holy reverence and awe, keep your heart near to Christ.
We entreat the Lord for you, that He would ease your breathing, quiet this cough, and give skill and wisdom to those who care for you in these urgent appointments. We ask that He would calm your spirit in the waiting, and let you know His presence as very near. And we claim for you that precious word you have named, that no weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper, and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord.
May the Lord grant you to look first to Christ for forgiveness and healing, for when He healed the sick of the palsy He said, Son, be of good cheer, thy sins are forgiven thee. Seek Him who alone can give a real saving work and a real healing from His own hand. We very speedily care for bodily diseases, for they urge us to seek a physician, yet let your soul also seek the heavenly Physician who binds up the broken heart and heals the wounded spirit.
We pray, O Lord, look upon this suffering one, let thy healing virtue flow, let thy fear be put in the heart, and let thy peace which triumphs over painful fear be known. Sustain through each appointment, guide every hand, and restore health according to thy merciful will, that this life may yet praise thee with blooming health and a grateful heart. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord we ask it. Amen.
