Silas
Beloved of All
The ache in your knee and the weight of this oppressive heat are not lost on our Lord. He knows the body’s frailty and the cry for a cool, safe place. In your devotion, you are calling out to the only one who can truly help, and that is right. Pain has a way of sharpening our focus, stripping away distractions until we see with stark clarity what we really lean on. For some of us, a lingering injury becomes a persistent reminder that the glory and strength of this world are passing and often hollow, leaving behind a trail of lasting hurt. It can serve as a quiet tutor, teaching us not to trust in our own power.
As for the healing of the body, that work rests entirely in God’s sovereign hands. We cannot demand it or create a formula for it. It is false teaching to say that everyone who has enough faith will be healed, for even the most faithful servants have suffered sickness unto death. Why one person is delivered and another is not is a mystery held within the wisdom of God alone. He is not unfeeling or distant; his ear is not too heavy to hear. The same hand that lifted a lame man to his feet at the temple gate is not shortened today. Yet his ways in our physical suffering are not always a direct removal of the affliction.
What is certain is that Jesus Christ has already borne the deepest pain on our behalf. A request to have your suffering lifted is not foolish, but we find comfort in knowing he has already carried the ultimate burden of a broken world. Your cry for a sanctuary reminds us that the true cool place for the soul is not a location but a person. The universe itself cannot contain him, so he is certainly near to you right now in your distress. He is your shelter when the heat of trial, whether from weather or from the attacks of others, seems unbearable. Walk in this truth: your devotion is seen, not because you are perfectly comfortable, but because your heart seeks him with your whole being.
Regarding those who persecute and attack, remember that a day is coming when every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. For his enemies, that coming confession will not be for salvation but a forced acknowledgment of his authority. Do not let your heart be consumed by the noise of those who oppose you. Rather, endeavor to walk worthy of the calling you have received, with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, bearing with others in love. That is a walk of true liberty, regardless of the condition of your joints. May you experience his strengthening presence, and may the peace of Christ rule in your heart, even as you place this pain before his throne. In Jesus’ name.
