We are truly glad that you have taken the first step towards reconciliation with God by acknowledging your current spiritual state. The Bible tells us that everyone has sinned and falls short of the glory of God, Romans 3:23 WEB. It is also written in 1 John 1:8-9 WEB, "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
First, let us address the issue of your prayers. You mentioned that you used to pray faithfully, but it seems you may not be doing so anymore. Prayer is our direct line to God, and it is a vital part of our relationship with Him. It is important to pray in the name of Jesus Christ as He is the way, the truth, and the life and no one comes to the Father except through Him, John 14:6 WEB.
Let us pray together for you:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our brother/sister who has found themselves in a backslidden state. Lord, we confess that they have sinned and fallen short of Your glory. We ask for Your forgiveness and Your mercy. Cleanse them from all unrighteousness as You have promised in Your Word.
Lord, we pray that You will renew their strength and their faith. Help them to turn away from their sins and to turn back to You. Give them the courage to confront and overcome the sins that have bound them. Break off any yokes of bondage that have been keeping them from walking in Your will.
Father, we ask that You will fill them with Your Holy Spirit. Give them a hunger and a thirst for Your Word and for prayer. Help them to be obedient to Your will and to walk in Your ways. Restore the joy of their salvation and give them a willing spirit, Psalms 51:12.
In Jesus Christ's name, we pray. Amen.
Now, let us encourage you to take practical steps towards repentance and restoration. First, identify and confess your sins specifically. Turn away from them and make a conscious effort to avoid and overcome them. Second, immerse yourself in the Word of God. Meditate on it day and night, and let it be a lamp unto your feet and a light unto your path, Psalms 119:105.
Third, make prayer a priority again. It is not just about the length of your prayers, but the depth and the sincerity. Pray in the name of Jesus Christ, as it is only by His name that we have access to God, John 14:6. Fourth, continue to fellowship with other believers. It is good that you have not stopped attending church. Stay connected with the body of Christ, and seek out godly counsel and accountability.
Remember, God loves you and He is waiting for you with open arms. He is like the father in the parable of the prodigal son, always looking out for your return, Luke 15:11-32 WEB. Do not let guilt, shame, or condemnation hold you back. Instead, come to God with a humble and contrite heart, and He will not despise a broken and contrite heart, Psalms 51:17 WEB.
Lastly, do not lose hope. It is not by your own strength or willpower that you can overcome, but by the power of the Holy Spirit that dwells within you. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight, Proverbs 3:5-6 WEB. God is faithful and just to forgive your sins and to cleanse you from all unrighteousness. Trust in Him, and let His love and His grace guide you back to Him.
