Aunts home

Beloved of All
My ### is the matriarch of relatives. But she is very gossipy. She lies to the other elders all time and will campaign so kindly they believe her. God we need prayer for her to change her heart. To find peace on Jesus Christ because it is destructive. Judgemental and extremely hurtful. It's a divisive Spirit that causes competition and continued judgements. She will throw her one children AND grandchildren under the bus to protect her standing with someone who has been threatening or hurtful to them. Lots of healing needed .

We hear the heaviness of what you are carrying and we join you in bringing this before the Lord, seeking His will together in Jesus' name. It is painful when the one who holds the place of matriarch in the family uses that influence not to build up but to tear down, and we understand why you are grieved and longing for healing.

The Word shows us how seriously God takes the sins you have described. Proverbs 16:28 says A perverse man stirs up strife. A whisperer separates close friends. And Proverbs 6:16-19 tells us there are six things that Yahweh hates, seven that are an abomination to him, including a lying tongue, and one who sows discord among brothers. James 3:5-6 warns us that the tongue is a little member and boasts great things and that it is a fire, a world of iniquity. Leviticus 19:16 says You shall not go around as a slanderer among your people. Gossip, lying, and campaigning to turn elders against one another is not a small matter, it is destructive and it grieves the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 4:29 commands, Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear.

We rebuke that divisive spirit in Jesus' name. A spirit of competition, judgment and slander has no place in a family that God desires to be knit together in love. James 3:16 says For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed. To throw even her own children and grandchildren under the bus to protect her standing with those who have been threatening or hurtful to them is contrary to God's design for family. 1 Timothy 5:8 says But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. A matriarch is called in Titus 2:3 to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, and to teach what is good. When she instead judges harshly, we are reminded that Matthew 7:1-2 says Do not judge, so that you will not be judged. For with whatever judgment you judge, you will be judged.

We also want to encourage you in how to walk through this in a way that honors God. We are called to speak the truth in love, Ephesians 4:15, and to speak truth each one with his neighbor, Ephesians 4:25. That may mean lovingly confronting in private as Matthew 18:15 teaches, not returning gossip for gossip, and setting wise and loving boundaries so that lies are not given room to spread. Romans 12:18 says If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. We can pursue peace without participating in or enabling the sin. And we are called to forgive as the Lord forgave us, Colossians 3:13 and Ephesians 4:32, which does not mean pretending the hurt is not real, but releasing bitterness so that healing can come. Psalm 147:3 promises He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.

We pray together for her and for all of you.

Father, we lift this precious aunt to You. You see her heart, You see the patterns of gossip, lying and judgment, and You see the deep hurt and division it has caused through the family, even to the children and grandchildren. We ask in Jesus' name that You would give her a new heart and put a new spirit within her, as You promised in Ezekiel 36:26, taking away the heart of stone and giving a heart of flesh. Convict her of the power of her words and lead her to repentance, that she may know that the tongue that has been used for strife can be redeemed to speak life. Draw her to find true peace in Jesus Christ, for Philippians 4:7 says the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Let her know Jesus not just in word but in transforming power, that she may become a woman who builds her house with wisdom rather than tears it down.

Lord, we also pray for healing for this whole family. Heal the wounds of those who have been judged, gossiped about and betrayed. Guard the children and grandchildren and let them know they are seen and protected by You. Help this family to walk in the wisdom that is from above, which James 3:17 says is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. Teach all of you to guard your own lips, to refuse to repeat what harms, and to be peacemakers who sow in peace and reap a harvest of righteousness, James 3:18. Give wisdom for when to speak, when to be silent, and when to seek godly counsel outside the family.

We thank You that nothing is too hard for You and that You desire unity and truth. We trust You to do a healing work that only You can do, and we ask all of this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and our peace. Amen.

Thank you for sharing this so honestly. Watching the matriarch of the family use words that wound, especially when children and grandchildren get caught in the middle, is exhausting and heartbreaking. We hear how much you want peace for her and healing for everyone else.

It makes sense you named a divisive spirit, because gossip and comparison quickly create sides where there should be family. We have found it helps to remember only God can change a heart, our part is to stay faithful in how we respond and to keep praying for her to find real peace in Christ.

One small step that often brings some calm is to decide ahead of time what you will do when the gossip starts. You do not have to correct her in front of others or carry the story further. A quiet boundary like I love you both, I do not want to speak for her when she is not here and then stepping away, plus bringing that moment to the Lord in private prayer, can protect your own heart and not add fuel. If there is a wise, steady pastor or elder you trust, talking with them privately for guidance on boundaries in your family can also help.

Father, we lift this aunt to You and ask You to soften her heart and draw her to Yourself. Give her a hunger for peace in Jesus instead of standing or control. Heal the hurts where words have divided, protect the children and grandchildren, and give this family wisdom to love truthfully without returning hurt for hurt. Lead them day by day. In Jesus name, amen.

We join you in prayer over this heavy burden concerning your ### and the pain her words and ways have brought upon the family. To see one who holds a place of honor as matriarch use that influence for gossip, for untruth, for campaigning among the elders, and for protecting her own standing at the expense of her own children and grandchildren, is indeed a wounding and divisive thing. Scripture calls such a tongue a fire, and you are right to grieve it and to seek the Lord for a changed heart and for peace that is found only in Jesus Christ.

Be assured that there is forgiveness with God. As the psalmist declares, there is forgiveness with Him, that He may be feared. Whatever the sin has been, whether deceit or harsh judgment or sowing division, there is forgiveness through the blood of Christ for every repenting and believing sinner. It is a divine forgiveness, not from man but from God Himself, and it is complete. The record of debt is nailed to the cross. It is also a continuous forgiveness, for He not only forgave at the first but continues daily to forgive those who come to Him. If your ### turns to Christ with a penitent heart, confessing her sin and trusting in Him alone for salvation, she will find that full, eternal pardon which God delights to give.

With that forgiveness comes healing. The leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ has healing virtue in it. Where sin has made sick, Christ makes whole. When Jesus said to the palsied man, thy sins be forgiven thee, pardon and healing were joined together. We pray that the Lord would grant her such forgiveness and that healing would flow into her heart, into her tongue, and into the whole family that has been hurt and set in competition by these judgments.

We also pray that the Lord will help you and your family to forgive even as Christ forgave you. Forgiveness among believers is to be a joint work of grace, not because the offense is light, but because we have been so greatly forgiven. This does not mean to call evil good or to pretend that untruth is harmless. Love rejoices in the truth and speaks the truth. It means to release bitterness, to refuse to repay evil for evil, to guard your own lips from gossip in return, and to seek restoration where possible with wisdom and boundaries.

Let us pray together.

Heavenly Father, we come before You through Jesus Christ Your Son, in whom alone there is salvation and peace. We ask that You would work in the heart of this ###, that You would convince her of sin, grant her repentance, and draw her to find peace in Christ. Take away the divisive spirit, the love of gossip and the habit of untruth, and give her a new heart that loves truth and mercy. Forgive her as only You can, and let that forgiveness bring healing to her soul. We ask also for healing for this family, for the children and grandchildren who have been wounded, for the elders who have been misled, and for all who have felt judged and cast aside. Heal what has been torn, unite what has been divided, and teach all to forgive one another even as Christ has forgiven. Keep this family close to Your Word, walking in truth and love, and let Your healing leaves be laid upon every sore. In the name of Jesus our Healer and our Redeemer we ask this, Amen.
