attempted overdose

We join together with you in bringing this precious young lady before the throne of grace in Jesus' name, and our hearts are heavy with you for her and for all who love her. We thank you for caring enough to intercede for her salvation and for her life while she is in the ICU, and we stand with you asking God to spare her life and to draw her to Himself.

The Lord sees her pain and He is not distant from it. Psalm 34:18 tells us Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Her life is fearfully and wonderfully made and knit together by God Himself, Psalm 139:13-14, and He has thoughts of peace toward her and not of evil, to give her hope and a future, Jeremiah 29:11. Even when despair feels overwhelming, God’s Word reminds us that our lives belong to Him and He has purpose for every breath we take, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. To take one’s own life is not God’s will, for He is the giver of life and calls us to trust Him with our deepest sorrows, but we also know that His mercy and forgiveness are greater than any sin or darkness when we turn to Him with a repentant heart.

We notice your request asks for prayer for her salvation, yet does not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently and lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and can be saved. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. This is the good news that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved, Romans 10:9, for Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved, Romans 10:13. Salvation is not by our own goodness but by putting our faith in Jesus Christ who died for our sins and rose again, and He alone can bring forgiveness, healing to the broken heart, and eternal life.

We pray together now for her. Heavenly Father, we lift up this young woman to You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Lord, have mercy upon her in that ICU, lay Your healing hand upon her body and sustain her life. We ask You to breathe life into her lungs, to restore what has been harmed, and to guide the hands of the doctors and nurses caring for her. Above all, we pray for her soul, that even now You would open her eyes to Your great love for her, that she would feel Your nearness in her brokenness and know that she is deeply valued and not forgotten. Draw her to Jesus, convict her of sin and of Your grace, and grant her the gift of repentance and faith so that she may confess Jesus as Lord and be saved. Deliver her from the spirit of despair and hopelessness, fill her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and surround her with godly people who will speak truth, show love, and walk with her in the days ahead. We also pray for her family and for the one who brought this request, that You would comfort them, give them strength, and use them to share the hope of Christ with her. We ask all this in the name of Jesus our only hope and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to continue to intercede for her without ceasing and, as God gives opportunity, to ensure she hears the gospel of Jesus Christ clearly when she is able, and to help connect her and her family with a Bible believing pastor and with trusted Christian counsel as well as ongoing medical and mental health care. God is able to bring beauty from ashes and to redeem even this painful moment for His glory. Keep trusting Him, keep praying in Jesus' name, and keep reminding her as she recovers that God loves her and has a purpose for her life.

Thank you for bringing this young lady to us in prayer. We can hear how heavy this is, waiting while she is in the ICU and carrying concern for her life and for her salvation. We are praying with you.

It is a loving thing you have done to intercede for her and to ask others to stand with you. In these next hours and days, staying close to the hospital team and the family will matter most. If you are able to be in contact with them, the nurses and the hospital chaplain can keep you updated and can offer comfort at the bedside. It also helps to have one or two trusted people near you, so you are not carrying the waiting by yourself. We will keep praying alongside you while the doctors care for her.

Father, we lift this young woman to You in Jesus' name. We ask for Your mercy over her body as she is cared for in the ICU, for wisdom for her medical team, and for Your nearness to her and to those who love her. We pray she would come to know Your love and salvation through Jesus, and that You would give her hope and a future in You. Comfort and strengthen the one who wrote to us as they wait and trust You. In Jesus' name, amen.

We join you in earnest prayer before the throne of grace for this young woman now lying in the ICU after this grievous attempt upon her own life. How heavy is such sorrow, and how great is our need to bring it at once to the Lord Jesus Christ.

We are reminded that despair whispers there is no hope, yet that word goes beyond the truth of God. God is the God of hope, and while there is life there is hope, and while there is hope there is life. To say our hope is lost is to write our own sentence when the Lord has not cast us away. Despair is not a mere sickness of the mind but a sin of the soul that would keep the sinner from looking to the only Saviour, yet grace glorifies itself by breaking through even such darkness. There is no hope in ourselves, and blessed is the soul that learns it, for then it may find all hope in God through Jesus Christ. Finding there is no hope in himself, the sinner is apt to draw the unwarrantable conclusion that there is no hope for him in God, but the truth is that God has not cast him away.

There is healing in Christ, and not only in what men count great things. The leaves of that tree of life are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ has healing virtue to change the life blood and make the nature new. What His blood has purchased, His grace can apply even upon a bed of affliction. Salvation is not by our works or ceremonies, nor by the virtue of our repentance alone, but without money and without price to every soul that looks unto Him and believes on Him. The Scripture says, Whoever believes on Him shall not be ashamed. A look does not require a moment, and that look from self to Jesus is the simple and instantaneous way of salvation. It is not a consideration of what we are, but of what Christ is, that can save us.

Let us pray together.

O Lord our God, Father of mercies, have pity upon this young woman. In Thy great compassion spare her life if it be Thy will, and raise her up from this bed of languishing. Above all, grant her the healing of the soul. Open her eyes to see that she is lost and that Christ alone can save. Grant her repentance and faith to look unto Jesus and live. Forgive her sin, wash her in the precious blood, and give her a good hope of eternal life through believing in Jesus Christ. Let Thy healing leaves be laid upon her wounded spirit, and let her know that Thou art nigh unto them that are of a broken heart. Comfort also those who love her and who now watch and weep, and help them to hope and to pray without ceasing while breath remains.

We will continue to plead for her salvation, that the Lord who is mighty to save would bring her from death unto life, and that she may yet live to declare His goodness. Cast not away confidence, but look unto Him and be saved, all the ends of the earth.
