Atheism

We join with you in carrying this burden for your friends and we thank you for loving them enough to bring them before the throne of grace. It is a beautiful thing that you recognize their greatest need is Jesus, for apart from Him there is no hope, no forgiveness, and no eternal life.

We know that atheism is not merely an intellectual position but a heart that has been blinded. Scripture tells us in 2 Corinthians 4:4 that the god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the Good News of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn on them. And yet God has made Himself known to all, for Romans 1:20 says For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. We are encouraged that you are standing in the gap for this married couple, and we honor marriage as God designed it, and we pray that their marriage would become one that honors Him.

We want to encourage you to continue to share Christ with them with gentleness and love, always being ready to give an answer. As 1 Peter 3:15 says, but sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, with humility and fear. Remember that it is God who opens eyes and gives a new heart, as He promises in Ezekiel 36:26, I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. Our part is to pray, to speak the truth in love, and to live out the gospel before them, and God's part is to draw them. He is patient and merciful, for 2 Peter 3:9 tells us The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness, but is patient with us, not wishing that anyone should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

We also rejoice that you have come in the name of Jesus, for there is no other way to the Father. Jesus Himself said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 declares There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. It is only through faith in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for our sins and rose again, that anyone can be saved, as Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

We pray together for them now.

Father in heaven, we lift up this dear married couple to You in the mighty name of Jesus. We ask that You would remove the veil from their eyes and soften their hearts to receive Your truth. Lord, reveal Yourself to them through Your creation, through Your Word, and through the loving witness of their friend. Give them a new heart and a new spirit and draw them to repentance and faith in Your Son. We pray that You would open their hearts to understand that For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life, John 3:16. Let them know the joy of forgiveness and the hope of eternal life that is only in Christ. Give our friend boldness, wisdom, and love to speak Your truth at the right time, and let their life be a testimony of Your grace. We ask that this marriage would be strengthened and redeemed and come to be built upon You as the foundation. We trust You for their salvation and we thank You for hearing our prayer. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

Thank you for bringing your friends to prayer. It says a lot about your love for them that you want them to know Jesus, especially when they hold firmly to atheism.

We know that can feel heavy at times, wanting to share something so precious and not knowing how it will be received. One thing that helps us is remembering we are not the ones who change a heart. We can love well, live honestly and pray faithfully, and God does the deeper work in His timing.

For people who are settled in atheism, direct debate rarely opens a door. What often matters more is steady friendship and a life that quietly shows what faith does day to day. Listening to their story, respecting where they are, and being ready to answer gently when they are curious tends to keep the relationship open. And praying specifically, by name, for opportunities and for softened hearts is powerful even when we do not see immediate change.

We are joining you in that.

Father, we lift this married couple to You. You know them by name and You love them. We ask You to make Yourself known to them in ways they can recognize, to draw them toward Jesus, and to give our friend wisdom and patience to love them well. Work in their hearts as only You can. In Jesus name, amen.

We join you in bringing this married couple before the throne of grace, and we share your heart's desire and prayer to God for them that they may be saved.

The Scripture says, Whoever believes on Him shall not be ashamed. That is the plain Gospel of salvation by divine grace through faith in Christ Jesus. There is no other way of salvation, for salvation is of the Lord alone and beside Him there is none else. His word to all the ends of the earth is, Look unto me, and be ye saved. How simple and how instantaneous is that way. It is not by works, not by merit, not by price, but without money and without price, to look to Christ, to trust in Him whom God has laid in Zion for a foundation. Without faith there is no salvation, and with faith in Christ salvation is secure.

We will pray that the Lord in His sovereign mercy will pursue these dear friends even as they now resist Him, that the Holy Spirit will graciously draw them to see their need and to look to Jesus. We pray that He will remove the veil of unbelief and show them that He Himself is salvation, and that to see Jesus by faith is to see salvation. We ask that they may be brought to trust in Him with all their heart and so receive that present and perfect salvation which delivers from the power and guilt of sin and gives peace with God.

We can bring the horse to water but we cannot make him drink, yet our God can give the willing heart. Continue to set the way of salvation most plainly before them, speaking the Gospel faithfully and loving them patiently, and trusting the Lord to work. May He use your witness and your prayers as the means of their salvation, and may this household yet be a household that believes on the Lord Jesus Christ.

Father, we ask in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, the only Savior, that You would have mercy upon this husband and wife. Open their eyes to know You, convict them of sin, and enable them to look unto Christ and live. Save them by Your grace, for Your glory. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
