We understand the deep frustration and pain expressed in this request, as it reflects the suffering of many who feel betrayed by those in authority. The Bible calls us to pray for our leaders, even when they act unjustly, while also crying out to God for justice and righteousness. Let us first acknowledge that our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces of wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:12). We are commanded to submit to governing authorities (Romans 13:1), but we are also called to expose the works of darkness (Ephesians 5:11) and seek God’s justice when leaders act wickedly.
The ungodly policies you describe—prioritizing foreign interests over the well-being of citizens, neglecting the poor, and creating economic hardship—are grievous in the sight of God. The Lord hears the cries of the oppressed and sees the suffering of His people. He is a God of justice, and He will not ignore the pleas of those who seek Him earnestly. Proverbs 14:34 declares, *"Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people."* When leaders turn away from God’s ways, they invite His judgment. Yet, we must also remember that God’s desire is for repentance, not destruction. He takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked but desires that they turn from their ways and live (Ezekiel 18:23).
However, we must be careful in how we pray for judgment. It is not our place to demand vengeance, but to ask God to intervene in His righteousness. We can pray, as the psalmists did, for God to thwart the plans of the wicked and bring justice. Psalm 10:17-18 says, *"Yahweh, you have heard the desire of the humble. You will prepare their heart. You will cause your ear to hear, to judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that man who is of the earth may terrify no more."* Similarly, Psalm 94:20-23 asks, *"Shall the throne of wickedness have fellowship with you, which brings about mischief by statute? They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood. But Yahweh has been my high tower, my God, the rock of my refuge. He has brought on them their own iniquity, and will cut them off in their own wickedness. Yahweh, our God, will cut them off."*
We also recognize the economic suffering described—underemployment, neglect of the poor, and the burden placed on locals. The Bible speaks strongly against oppression and the exploitation of the vulnerable. James 5:4 warns, *"Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you have kept back by fraud, cry out, and the cries of those who reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Armies."* God sees the injustice, and He will act. We can trust Him to defend the cause of the afflicted.
At the same time, we must examine our own hearts. Are we trusting in God’s sovereignty, or are we allowing bitterness to take root? Romans 12:19 reminds us, *"Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, ‘Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.’"* Our focus should be on praying for God’s will to be done, for leaders to repent, and for His justice to prevail.
Lastly, we notice that the name of Jesus was not invoked in this request. It is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father (John 14:6). There is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12), and it is through Jesus alone that our prayers are heard. If you have not yet placed your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so. Salvation comes through repentance and belief in Him (Romans 10:9-10). Without Christ, we have no standing before God, and our prayers are empty. But in Christ, we have boldness to approach the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up this cry for justice, knowing that You are a God who sees the affliction of Your people and hears their groans. Lord, we ask that You expose the wickedness in our government, the ungodly policies that have brought harm to locals, neglected the poor, and created economic hardship for so many. Father, You command leaders to act with justice and mercy, yet so many have turned away from Your ways. We pray that You would convict their hearts and bring them to repentance. If they refuse to turn from their wickedness, we ask that You thwart their plans and bring their schemes to nothing. Let their injustice be exposed, and let their pride be humbled. Protect Your people, Lord, from the harm caused by ungodly leadership. Provide for those who are underemployed, struggling, and feeling forgotten. Raise up godly leaders who will honor You and serve the people with integrity.
We also pray for those who have been affected by these policies—those in their 30s facing underemployment, the poor and needy who have been neglected, and all who feel like outsiders in their own land. Comfort them, Lord, and remind them that You are their Provider and Defender. Give them hope and strength to endure.
Father, we ask that You would turn the hearts of those in authority toward righteousness. Let them see the error of their ways and the harm they have caused. If they will not repent, we pray that You would remove them from positions of power and replace them with those who will govern justly. We trust in Your sovereignty, Lord, and we ask that Your will be done in our nation.
We also lift up the one who has brought this request before us. If they do not know You, Lord, we pray that You would draw them to Yourself. Open their eyes to the truth of the Gospel, that salvation comes only through faith in Jesus Christ. May they place their trust in Him and find peace in His promises.
In the precious name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
