Are You Trying To Earn Gods Favor?

Do you remember exactly when you accepted Christ as your Savior? I hope you do because it is a memory worth returning to when times are tough. At any rate, wasn't it a big relief to give up control of your life to Jesus care? Wasn't it great that you didn't have to "do" anything except believe? So simple and yet so complete!
Do you still rest in your original faith or have you somehow returned to "working" your way to heaven? It's become all to common. In fact, Paul encountered it with the Galatians and wrote them a letter to address this dread spiritual disease. He doesn't mince words when he says; "Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?" (Galatians 3:3)
He's asking them why they would use a failing method to live their life by when that's not how they started their life in Christ. I'm glad he wrote the book because Christians down through the ages have needed to be reminded - including myself, that somehow, grace seemed too easy and we feel we have to try to earn our salvation.
Romans 4:4-5
4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him (Jesus) that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
How can you tell if you are infected with this dread disease of works? Well, do you find yourself keeping a note pad of your spiritual life? How many good deeds you do? How much you pray? How much money you give? Do you find yourself equating that with how much favor you have with God?
If so, return to that original moment when you realized that the blood of Jesus was sufficient to secure you with God. It was good enough then and it is still good enough. Remember the Galatians 3:3 and Romans 4:4-5 truths each day and don't try and earn what was freely given.

God sees beyond our sinful nature in what His grace can produce in us. Reflecting overPsalm 8:3-4, we stand in awe of why God cares so much for His children. “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?†It is truly inconceivable to understand the depths of God’s ultimate love for us, when we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, while we were still God’s enemies (Romans 5:10).....I PRAY THAT WE ALL FIND OUR WAY BACK TO OUR CREATOR....

There have been many times that I am overwhelmed with worry. I have to give these worries up to God just to survive one day at a time. Sometimes I forget He is always with me. What a relief when I realize I am never alone.

I now try to put God's armor on every morning, and go about my day,. I do not tally what I do, I try to do what Jesus would want me to do. I sometimes do have some slips of thoughts and then I pray to be stronger each day.

Thanks Don.

I know we are truly saved upon belief in Jesus and what he came to do for us. The thing is, do we not have to try to be good Christians and do those things that would please God, in the name of Jesus? If we are true to our word as Christians, do we not need to share God's love with others and serve others and improve our lives and try to help improve the lives of others and do those things that we believe are pleasing to God to be more righteous in his eyes? And perhaps 'righteous' is the wrong word. I do realize we are saved by Jesus, that good works don't get us to heaven, but if we are true believers in Christ, then should we not want to and need to do good works for him to bring him joy? Isn't it the least of what we should do for all the joy he gives us each day? Even to those who struggle and sacrifice and don't have 2 cents to rub together, we can all in our own ways do good works and serve others in some small way in the name of Jesus. Or did I completely miss the point of the message? Thank you for all you do, Don! You are a true servant of the Lord and such a wonderful brother. Love to you and Judy!

Amen, thank you brother for the refresher! It could also seem that things like guilt, shame, low self-esteem may lead us into that trap as well through the battlefield of the mind wherein the enemy deceives us into feeling that we need to earn God's love because we feel not good enough. Thank you so much Don for your blessed blogs, they are always so enlightening! God bless you.

dear bro.in christ

thank you very much for the message yes a good refreshment to look back and remember the days our lord carried me in his arms with love and prayers suja

I sometimes go back into not asking God, counting on my own will and strength.

When I come to Christ- I never ever believe some one can love me, so much. He has paid a heavy price for me ( I was expensive, more then Guzzi, Prada) He fall and suffered for consequences for me. All because He love me. Could anybody love you more? When I first when to watch the Film " the Passion of Christ "- Then I was amaze about the magnitude of his love for me. The sacrifice that He was willing to make for us.

Thank you Don for making us realise that it is, this unworthy hellish evil world that wanted me to go to a loving kind generous caring Father in the first please. We were bought very expensive so I am gonna try to live my life as God wants me too. I pray God remind me each time not to rely on my own strength
