ARE YOU EXPECTING YOUR SPOUSE ANYTIME?
"When he came to his senses, he said, 'How many of my father's hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to becalled your son; make me like one of your hired men.' So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filledwith compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him." Luke 15:17-20
Will you have compassion and love for your husband, wife or child when they call or knock on your door, asking if they can come home? Are you waiting, expecting the Lord to bring your beloved husband/wife or child home, suddenly as in the Prodigal Son story?
Are you ready for your spouse to come home suddenly through Christmas or the New Year holidays? Yes, I am asking if you are really ready for your spouse to call you and say,†I am sorry, will you forgive me? I want to come home." Another telephone call may say, "Will you come back home, I miss you? I have forgiven you. Let’s start working on our marriage." What a day to remember! You may not see or hear the words today, but I believe the Lord is moving on thousands of spouses' hearts to make a commitment to, "Go Home now!" Are you praying for that every day? Are you praying for other marriages?
Are you ready? Are your closets and drawers ready for your beloved spouse? Are you keeping your house ready for a special family member to come over? I know you may be battling depression or fatigue, but will you just get up and start expecting something exciting to happen? Every day will you thank and praise the Lord in advance for what He is going to be doing for all marriages around the world for the next two to three weeks?
How are you doing with blessing the ones that are insulting you, persecuting you or falsely saying all kinds of evil about you? Do you want to retaliate or get even? What would Jesus do? What does the Lord teach us in Romans 12? Look it up and read it.
"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you." Matthew 5:11-12
Are you praying scriptures with your spouse's name in them? God's Word will not return void. You can write scriptures on an index card or in a journal, so you can read it quickly, but please try to pray a few scriptures daily, especially for the next three weeks. In fact, you may have already memorized a few. But beware, the enemy is going to try to convince you that your marriage will never be restored and your husband/wife will never change. Please don't forget about Saul and the prodigal son. God is in the heart-changing business every day.
Are you angry with your spouse's behavior, words and actions? What is God saying to you about your spouse? Ask the Lord and then listen for His soft answer. The enemy is using your spouse to push your buttons. May you choose to forgive your spouse's wrongs daily. Do not allow your unforgiveness to turn into anger and bitterness. Instead, choose to pray a scripture with your and your spouse's name in them every time something happens, then the enemy will decide to leave you both alone. You will accomplish much more in the Heavenlies. Remember, zip your lips,but let the Lord speak to your husband/wife. Let the Lord take revenge and deal with them. The Lord is the only One in the heart-changing business. Remember, let unconditional love radiate in your heart and memorize this scripture:
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a
Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?" Jesus answered, "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times." Matthew 18:21-22
Pray daily for you and your husband/wife and for all couples that they will become the husbands/fathers or wives/mothers that they need to be. May you not judge or condemn your spouse or any other person, but first remove the plank from your own eyes or turn the other cheek or go the second mile as the Lord taught us throughout His ministry. Let us also teach our children about these principles.
"But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you. If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' love those who love them...be merciful, just as your Father is merciful." Luke 6:27-32, 36
Let us pray that in families around the world there will be healing and reconciliation of moms and daughters, fathers and sons, brothers and sisters, even healing of standers’ in-laws who thought they had to take sides. Do you know how many couples do not have a restored marriage because of anger or unforgiveness of another loved one?"Lord, may thousands of relationships that are not just husbands and wives be restored and healed by You pouring on forgiveness and unconditional love around the world for the next three weeks."
I pray that you will not dwell on past bad memories, but choose to erase all the pain and sorrow that has happened. Instead, choose to forgive and make new memories for yourself, for your children and for your spouse. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you think on good things and not dwell on the past.
"Lord, You alone can erase all the words and actions that people have said or done that have wounded me. Lord, sanctify and renew my mind and may I only think on good things. I pray this all in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen."
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:8-9
Well, I hope you are fasting, praying and getting excited about what the Lord is going to do for so many families throughout the holidays. Let us keep praying, thanking and praising the Lord. Believe that the Lord will touch your spouse's heart, rout the enemy and bring your prodigal home, suddenly! Then get ready to celebrate!
"But the father said to his servants, 'Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let's have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' So they began to celebrate." Luke 15:22-24
