Are we supposed to be happy every minute of every day?

A lot of Christians think if we're anything less than deliriously happy every minute of every day of our lives it's a sin. But does God really see it that way,and does the Bible really state that?.For example, if a Christian goes to the funeral of an unsaved loved one,{and knowing that the person will be in the Lake of Fire for ever--while others are mourning, is the Christian supposed to start running up and down the aisles shaking a tambourine and celebrating, to prove their "happiness" that their loved one is in hell? You see what I mean, in some cases, certain emotions are out of context with the situation. If we go to minister to a nation with a famine, if a kid expresses discomfort that he's starving, are we supposed to scold him because he should jump up and dance around the room with happiness because of the situation?Let's see what the Bible ACTUALLY says...are there other emotions than happiness mentioned in the Bible, and are people considered sinning when they feel them? The Bible says,"weeping endureth for a night, but joy comes in the morning'.{But the fact that it endured for the night shows that the Bible acknowledges that other emotions exist besides over the top happiness.}"Let the sun not go down on your anger'.{And there is a type of righteous anger, like when Jesus overturned the table of the moneychangers in the synagogue.}So, what of the other emotions? Does God understand,, having created us, that we have a range of emotions, and with changing circumstances, different emotions might be triggered? And that we all have different temperaments?I think God understands that, better than some Christians who tell you you're sinning if you show emotions other than happiness, like grief at the funeral of an unsaved loved one.Like if your dentist tells you you have to get root canal, but he ran out of novocaine,do you mean to tell me that you should jump out of the chair and dance for joy, because the dentist will do a root canal without novocaine? And condemn another Christian who doesn't react that way? Come on...

Well, I feel it's more "realistic" to voice my honest emotions than say I'm overjoyed over a certain circumstance when I'm not, which would be a lie on my part.Just saying, the Bible doesn't deny other emotions, like,"To everything there is a time, a time to laugh, A TIME TO CRY",Jesus wept when coming to Lazarus, weeping endures for a night. That's just as much in the Bible as the other stuff.Rejoice with those who rejoice, mourn with those who mourn.Even at the Flood, God the Father,"And God looked down at mankind, and all the thoughts of his heart were continually evil all the time, and it GRIEVED HIM that He had made man."What that tells me, is there's more than one emotion. If we're made in Gods image, and even Jesus and God the Father felt grief, you walking around with a big ear to ear smile on your face 24/7/365,I don't know...

Rather than stating that a fly or mosquito or even a mouse is bothering you isn't it better to speak; fly leave me alone in Jesus than to claim the fly is bothering you so that the fly is free to continue to bother you?

If Jesus gives you power over a matter isn't it better to exercise that power than to give that power to another?

I don't walk around grinning all the time. Why must you think you know what someone else does when you don't and cannot know. There are times when I must ask Jesus to help me count something as joy or at the least count Jesus as my joy! You don't always have Jesus as your joy?

If you can't voice something as joy than isn't that a good time to be silent about a matter rather than having the matter continue to consume you and come back to you?
I don't know, I think I'm too "realistic" to feign happiness when I don't like how the circumstances went. But you...if you go in the woods and get poison ivy, you go out and celebrate? If you get sprayed by a skunk, that's a wonderful experience?Or if you're sinking in quicksand, and it's going over your mouth and nose and you can't breath, wow, that's REALLY a blast!!And if you parachute out of a plane, and your parachute doesn't open, well your little heart would overflow with joy!!Just saying, not all experiences are equal, some are less desirous than others. Don't know why your don't understand that.

I do understand. What you need to know is I don't get poison ivy, I'm immune to it in & thanks to Jesus. I wouldn't jump out of a plane unless I had to & if my chute didn't open I wouldn't curse God. Circumstances that haven't happened nor would probably happen are ignorant to even think about. If I wondered off & I was confronted by a skunk we would have peace with each other because I read Jesus gives me peace with the beasts of the field & I believe Him. We don't all have to have those things even happen to us if we are doing what Jesus instructs us to do :)

That's why Christians in the first century got killed by lions? But I will say,you are kind of in my head, Like I hear, "no one" can be happy every minute of every day, then I think of you, strutting around with that pompous walk, with that giant ear to ear smile on your face every minute of everyday not matter what, and the smile never comes off your face, like it's pasted on there, and I am fascinated by the fact that you're always euphoric, like no other.Like, how can someone have only one emotion all the time, he's the only person I know who's in a state of extreme euphoria 24/7.So I do find a certain fascination with it.

You are coming here to a public site in a sense teaching others, asking of others and if you are wrong I'm going to let you know at times, especially times Jesus puts on my heart to voice. When and if you decide not to come here than I guess you wouldn't be able to be bothered. I live on this site my friend and I'm not here to bother you but rather to help others :)

Some things that we think bother us are really no bother at all are they?

You are a very strange person Steven Bobb to think you can think how my life goes 24/7 especially when I have told you that I don't smile all the time yet you put words in my mouth and thoughts in your head that just aren't true. I am not perfect but I strive to perfection :)

No, I can't believe you that you're not in a state of perpetual extreme euphoria. Not you!!You seem like a happy go lucky person.

Ecclesiastes 3
A Time for Everything

3 There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
2 a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
6 a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace

Enjoy the day. Look up to Jesus. He brings not only salvation to our souls but He wants us all to be happy and enjoy life. If you do not have peace, joy and happiness, then it is time to reflect on what are your priorities in life. What you have been doing for Jesus lately? Remeber, by their fruits ye shall know them. Make sure the fruits of your labor pleases the Lord. Follow peace with all men and holiness without which no one shall see the Lord.
