Apetite

We join you in lifting up your loved one before the Lord concerning the need for an increased appetite, for we know that He cares about every detail of our physical health and well being.

We notice that your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently remind you how important this is, for it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Scripture also tells us in Acts 4:12, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and confess Him as Lord, for Romans 10:9 says if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is in His name that we now come boldly before God on your behalf.

We know how worrying it can be when someone we love struggles to eat or lacks desire for food, for the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and God desires for us to be nourished and strengthened. We are reminded in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. And in 3 John 1:2, Beloved, we pray that you may prosper in all things and be healthy, even as your soul prospers. The Lord provides for our daily needs as we see in Matthew 6:11, Give us today our daily bread, and He satisfies the longing soul as Psalm 107:9 declares, For he satisfies the longing soul. He fills the hungry soul with good.

We pray together for your loved one now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus and thank You for Your love and care for this dear one. You know their body, You formed them, and You know their need. We ask that You would touch their body and restore a healthy appetite. Lord, we pray that You would strengthen their digestion, renew their strength, and give them desire for nourishing food that will build up their health. We pray that any underlying cause of poor appetite, whether physical weakness, anxiety, illness, or discouragement, would be healed by Your hand. We ask for wisdom for those caring for them, and for peace in their heart, for Your Word says in Philippians 4:6-7, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. May they eat with thanksgiving and be strengthened to serve You and glorify You in their body. We trust You as the Great Physician who heals, for Psalm 103:2-3 says Praise Yahweh, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits, who forgives all your sins, who heals all your diseases. We ask all of this according to Your will, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.

We encourage you to continue to trust the Lord while also being good stewards of the health He has entrusted to you. Continue to provide wholesome nourishing foods, encourage regular mealtimes with thanksgiving, and seek wise medical counsel if this lack of appetite continues, for God often works through the wisdom He gives to physicians. Above all, keep praying and giving thanks for each small improvement, remembering 1 Thessalonians 5:18, In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you. We stand with you in faith believing that God hears our prayers and will provide what is best.

We have been holding you and your loved one in prayer since we read your request. Watching someone you love lose interest in food can leave you feeling worried and helpless, and it makes sense you would bring this concern to the Lord.

We are joining you in asking for strength and comfort for your loved one, and for wisdom for everyone caring for them. Appetite changes can have many different reasons, so alongside prayer we gently encourage you to make sure their doctor or care team knows what you are seeing. If you are able to go with them or talk with family who helps with appointments, sharing what you have noticed and asking what they advise can be a steady next step to take.

Thank you for reaching out and not carrying this worry alone. We know how much love is behind this prayer.

Father, we lift this loved one to You and ask for Your mercy and care over their body. Give comfort and strength day by day, guide those who provide care with wisdom, and give peace to the one praying so faithfully. We place them in Your hands and trust Your goodness over their life in Jesus' name, amen.

It is a great blessing when food and appetite meet together, and your tender care for your loved one in this matter is itself a sign of love which God regards. Some have appetite and no meat, and they need our pity. Others have meat but no appetite, and they certainly require our prayers. Only the happy conjunction of the appetite and the food can secure content, and we join you in asking the Lord to grant that conjunction to the one for whom you pray.

There is but one great Physician who lays His hands on men and they are restored, and there is but one sacred Fountain opened on Calvary. Jesus Christ is the Tree of Life, and not only is His fruit sweet and nourishing, but the leaves, the little things as it were about Christ, are full of healing virtue. The abiding power of those healing leaves keeps the soul of the believer in health, and the same Lord who says, Son, be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven you, shows that pardon and healing are one in His hand. We are on our way to eternal health where we shall be without spot or wrinkle, and even now the Sun of Righteousness rises with healing in His wings upon those who trust Him.

Tell the case to Jesus just as you would mention a physical case to a doctor. He is ready to hear it all and to consider it. There was a contact established when He took the sick by the hand and lifted them up, and there is healing in that touch still. While you pray to God to give appetite, use also the means He has provided, wholesome food prepared with care, seasonable rest, and the counsel of those skilled in bodily health, trusting that the Lord often works through such means. And as you seek this bodily appetite, pray also for that spiritual appetite which makes Christ sweet to the soul, for the hungry man's appetite makes even bitter things sweet, and when by holy faith we receive Christ into ourselves, He satisfies all comers.

Let us pray together for your dear one.

O Lord our God, Giver of every good gift, we thank You for daily bread and for the kindness which watches over the weak. Look in mercy upon this loved one whose appetite has failed. You have made the body and You sustain it, and we ask You to restore the desire for food and the power to receive it with thankfulness. Lay Your healing hand upon this dear one and grant renewed strength and health, as it pleases Your wisdom. Forgive sin, heal infirmity, and let this trial draw the heart nearer to Christ, who is our life and health. Grant spiritual hunger also, that Christ may be received and found sweet indeed. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our only Physician and Saviour. Amen.
