Treatment of Parents
A foolish child breaks a parent’s heart so honor them with gratitude and obedience.
Heredity
Your lineage shapes you but does not define you so rise above its limits or honor its virtues.
The Lad’s Life
Parents must shape their children’s souls early, or risk losing them to the world’s temptations.
We hear your tears in this message and we stand with you in the name of Jesus, thanking you for inviting us to pray with you in His precious name, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. Your heart to be still and let God fight for you is exactly what the Lord desires from you, and we honor your desire to not repay evil for evil and to remain faithful as a Christian even while being called bad names, harassed, gossiped about and humiliated.

The Lord sees what you are enduring and He knows your heart. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. He collects your tears and He will not ignore the injustice you and your husband are facing. Exodus 14:14 reminds us Yahweh will fight for you, and you shall be still. And Psalm 46:10 says Be still, and know that I am God.

We understand your pain over this inheritance fight since your parents in law passed away. The grief of losing them has been made heavier by the greed and strife that has followed. The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, as 1 Timothy 6:10 teaches, and Jesus Himself warned in Luke 12:15 to beware of covetousness, for a man's life doesn't consist of the abundance of the things which he possesses. When family members fight over an inheritance it reveals the condition of the heart, and the enemy uses it to bring division. We pray for your husband as he seeks what is rightfully his share of his late parents house, that he would do so with integrity and peace, seeking wise and lawful counsel but not with a spirit of greed or vengeance. Romans 12:18 says If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.

We also hear your anguish that the house is being broken down while drugs are being used there. This grieves the Lord, for our bodies are a temple of the Holy Spirit as 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 teaches, and Ephesians 5:18 tells us not to be drunken with wine or given to excess, but to be filled with the Spirit. Drug use destroys what God created and dishonors the memory and stewardship of that home. We pray for deliverance for those bound in that addiction.

It is natural to want people to see their true colours and for justice to be seen, but we gently encourage you to leave vengeance in God's hands. Romans 12:19 says Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord. And Proverbs 20:22 says Don't say, I will pay back evil. Wait for Yahweh, and he will save you. We are not to return insult for insult. 1 Peter 3:9 says not rendering evil for evil, or insult for insult, but instead blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing. And Jesus calls us to a higher way in Matthew 5:44, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you. Their ugly hearts and their desire to make others feel down and sad is known fully to God, and He will bring all things to light in His perfect time and way, without you needing to lower yourself to their level.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace for our dear sister and her husband. Lord You see the tears rolling down her face, You hear every cruel name spoken against her, every gossip and humiliation, and You know her heart. We ask You to comfort her as only You can, to be her refuge and strength. Give her supernatural peace as she remains still before You and let her know You are fighting for her. Protect her heart from bitterness and keep her from repaying evil for evil. Help her and her husband to walk in unity as one flesh in this marriage, supporting each other with love and prayer, and to pursue what is just regarding this inheritance with honesty, wisdom and peace, not with strife. We ask You to convict the siblings who are harassing and reviling and using drugs and destroying the house. Bring them to repentance, deliver them from addiction and from the love of money, and open their eyes to see the hurt they are causing. Let Your justice and mercy prevail, and if it is Your will, make a way for this dispute to be resolved lawfully and fairly without further destruction. Guard this sister's reputation, let truth come to light in Your timing, and vindicate her in Your perfect way. Heal her broken heart and give her joy again. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to be still before the Lord, to keep praying and to keep doing good, to document what is happening and seek godly and legal counsel quietly without engaging in arguments or slander. Keep your marriage strong by praying together daily and letting no root of bitterness take hold. God is your defender and He will honor your faithfulness.

We read your message and felt the weight of what you are carrying as you typed through tears. To be harassed, called cruel names, gossiped about and humiliated by family after the loss of your parents in law is a lot to bear. It is understandable you feel hurt and exhausted, and also determined to stay calm and not respond in the same way.

Your desire to be still and let God fight for you reflects a sincere wish to honor Him even when you are being provoked, and the longing for others to see the truth is very human when you feel unfairly portrayed. God does know your heart, and He sees the pain and the effort you are making to walk with integrity.

Inheritance conflicts often stir up old grief and strong emotions, and when they escalate to property damage or drug use and ongoing harassment, it is wise not to handle it alone. One steady step that often helps is to bring in calm, neutral support early, a trusted pastor for pastoral care and a qualified legal advisor about the house and inheritance questions, so you and your husband are not negotiating heated moments by yourselves. Keeping a simple written record of what is said and done and agreeing together as a couple on clear boundaries about when and how you will communicate with extended family can also reduce further harm.

Father, we lift ### and her husband to You in Jesus name. Comfort them in their grief, guard their hearts from bitterness, and give them wisdom, protection and peace as they seek next steps. Surround them with trustworthy support and help them rest in Your care. Amen.

Your tears are not hidden from Him who sees in secret, and your prayer to be still and let the Lord fight for you is a gracious prayer indeed. The Lord knows your heart, as you say, and He hears that cry which goes up even while the tongue is broken with weeping.

It is a bitter trial to be harassed and called by evil names, to be gossiped against and humiliated in your own family, and to see the house of the departed made a place of strife and wasted with drugs. Such things pierce deeply, and nature would bid you answer again and fight in your own strength. But you have judged rightly that to get down to their level would be to lose the very witness of a Christian. Remember how our Lord Himself was humbled. Being found in fashion as a Man, He humbled Himself, and bore shame and spitting and the crown of thorns, and had contempt for human glory. He knows what it is to be reviled, and He will teach you to bear reproach with meekness for His sake.

Now is the time to exercise faith upon a living God. Your God is not worth having if He cannot help you when you want help. The Scripture says, You, O Lord, have pleaded the causes of my soul, You have redeemed my life. Let that be your song even in this strait. You are content to be in just such a place as God would put you, yet your difficulties seem too many for you, and therefore cast your cause upon the great Ambassador. We have an Ambassador to go to God for us, even Jesus Christ the righteous. He cannot look upon us in ourselves, but He will in no wise cast out any who come through Christ. Lay hold on Jesus Christ alone and let Him stand as Ambassador for you. Confess before Him that you deserve nothing but His mercy, and appeal to His mercy through the Lord Jesus. He will plead your cause in the court of Heaven where perfect justice dwells.

When you are pressed and your faith seems to fail, do as your Master did in His agony. He cried with a double grip, My God, My God, even while He asked why He was forsaken. Let the personal pronoun take its hold. If you cannot for the moment say Father with clear assurance, yet say My God, My God. Cast out two anchors now and double the hold of your faith. He has not forsaken you, though for a season you walk in darkness. Let your Bible and prayer be dear to you in this valley, and let nothing drive you from your faith.

As for your desire that people should see their true colours, leave that with the Lord. You are His witness, says the Lord. Your witness will have weight not by loud contention but by a pure and patient character that walks according to His commands. Vengeance belongs to Him, and He will in His own time make truth plain. Do not seek to pull others down, but pray for them, even for those who use hard words and waste what God has given. Pray that God would deliver them from the sin that destroys both house and soul, and that He would turn their hearts from drugs and strife to seek forgiveness through Christ, for there is nothing that can qualify a sinner to be saved but Jesus meeting him where he is.

Concerning the inheritance, seek what is just and not what is greedy, and let peace be sought if it can be had with a clear conscience. Give up all harboring of sin and bitterness in your own heart, that there may be no hinderance to peace with God and, as far as it lies in you, peace with men.

I will pray for you as you have asked in the name of Jesus.

O Lord, You have searched this soul and known her sorrow, You have seen the harassment and the shame borne behind closed doors. Plead the causes of her soul and redeem her life from strife. Give her grace to be still and know that You are God, to answer reviling with meekness and gossip with prayer, and to keep her heart clean before You. Work in her husband and in his family that which is according to Your good pleasure, restrain the hand that wastes and destroys, deliver from the bondage of drugs those who are ensnared, and grant repentance and faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. Let justice be done without covetousness, and let Your peace which passes understanding guard this home. Grant perfect salvation to every sinner here who will look to Christ, blot out sin like a cloud, and turn this shadow of death into the morning of joy. Hear us for Jesus sake, Amen.

Your tears and pain have been heard, and God sees every hurt you have endured in this season of grief and conflict. It is deeply painful to mourn the loss of your parents in law while also facing harsh words, harassment, gossip and humiliation from family, and the Lord knows how heavy this is for you and your husband.

Your desire to be still and let God fight for you, and not to get down to their level, is right and honors Christ. Scripture says to be still and know that He is God, and that the Lord will fight for you. It also teaches us not to repay evil for evil, but to overcome evil with good, to bless those who persecute you and to leave vengeance in God's hands. Wanting to keep your witness as a Christian in the middle of such provocation is a sign of God's work in your heart, even when it feels so hard to endure.

It is understandable to want others to see the truth about how you have been treated. God does see the heart, as you said, and nothing is hidden from Him. He is both just and merciful. He sees the covetousness and strife that can take over a family when an earthly inheritance is at stake, and He knows how the love of money and the power of addiction can destroy what should be stewarded with care. The Bible warns that covetousness can become idolatry and that earthly inheritances fade, while God offers His children a far greater inheritance with the saints in light that no one can steal or break down. That does not make the present injustice less real, but it reminds us where our true hope and security lie.

I will pray for you, for your husband, and for your extended family in the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have salvation and access to the Father.

Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus I lift up this sister and her husband to You. You know every tear she has shed and every cruel word spoken against her. Comfort her heart, guard her mind with Your peace, and give her strength to remain gentle and steadfast and not return evil for evil. Protect her and her husband from harassment and harm, and give them wisdom to set wise and godly boundaries and to seek sound counsel from trusted pastors and, where needed, wise legal help to handle the matters of the house justly and peacefully.

Lord, bring conviction and healing to this family. Soften hard hearts, bring repentance where there is gossip, slander and greed, and deliver those who are trapped by drugs from that bondage. Help this family to steward what has been entrusted to them in a way that honors You and honors the memory of those who have passed. Where there is division, bring Your justice and Your mercy. Help my sister and her husband to keep their eyes on You, to rest in the inheritance You have secured for Your people, and to trust that You will act in Your perfect time and way.

Grant them daily grace to pray for those who have hurt them, to speak the truth in love, and to walk in holiness and peace. Sustain their marriage and guard their home in Your love. May Your will be done and may Your name be glorified in this painful situation.

We ask all this in the saving name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
