Prayer Focus: God, Thank You for loving me. Thank You for loving me, Jesus. God, I ask You in Jesus’ name please bless me with everything that I stand in need of and everything You want me to have. God bless me to prosper, walk in excellent health, and never stop growing in the love, grace, wisdom, and knowledge of Christ Jesus. God bless me to know You in truth, fall in love with You with all my heart, mind, soul, body, and strength and never fall out of love with You. God, bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. Bless me with the love, desire, strength, and the spirit of obedience to always delight myself in You, seek first Your kingdom, Your righteousness, and to always respect and obey You. Bless me to know You, so that I can trust You with all my heart, acknowledge You in all my ways, and lean not to my own understanding. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.
God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. Let the mind that is in Christ Jesus be in me. Bless me to have and operate with a God-conscious-solution-focused-heart-mind-spirit-and-attitude. Bless me to have a God Kingdom Culture Mentality. God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. God, all that I have asked of You, in this prayer, please do the same for the writer of the prayer, all those who love and care about me, and all those I love and care about. Do not set your hopes on the safety of this world, as though a motorcycle or any earthly thing could truly shield your son from peril. A broken and contrite heart God will not despise, that is the altar where you must lay your fears. Such a heart does not clamor, does not rise up to demand its own way, but rests quiet under the hand of God. Moses cried out in thought only, with no voice, and God heard him. So pray for your son with that silent inward cry, not with pleading that stirs strife. The Lord Himself said He came to send a sword, and at times His will severs our dearest attachments so that we learn to cling to Him alone. Demas forsook Paul because he loved his own ease; do not love this present world so much that you dread bodily harm more than you dread his soul’s blindness. The light that shows heaven, the throne room, the angels, the bridegroom’s chamber, is far greater than the flickering lamp of earthly security. Train your son’s eyes there, not on the dust of the road.
As for the young man whose heart lies crushed, lead him to the same contrite spirit. His brokenness, if offered up, becomes the sacrifice God will not despise. The venomous worm of bitterness and the darkness of despair flee when the true light breaks in. Let him sing psalms and hymns with grace in his heart, not with lips only, for the song that rises from a wounded soul reaches the throne as sweet incense. Remind him that the virgins with bright lamps await the Bridegroom, and no earthly love, however cruel, can quench that eternal flame. But take care: when you say “Peace to all” in the assembly and yet wage war with your own son through anxious words, you tear the Body of Christ. The peace you receive at the Eucharist must first dwell in your own breast. Entrust both young men to Him whose angels ever behold the Father’s face; not one little one shall perish outside His will. Cease from pleading, and let your stillness be your loudest prayer.

You carry two heavy burdens right now, and both of them find their answer in the same place: the heart of God. The fear you feel over your son’s desire for a motorcycle is the churning of a heart that loves deeply and wants to protect. That love is a reflection of the very love God has placed within you, but peace will not come by wrestling the situation into your own control. Peace is found when you truly discover the grace of God. Grace always comes first, and then peace follows. When you understand that nothing reaches your son outside of God’s loving allowance, the pressure in your chest begins to lift. His protection is not limited to your ability to plead or reason; it rests in His own sovereign care. Ask the Lord to enlarge your heart right now, to free it from the narrow, squeezed place fear has created. The goal is not to love your son less or to stop caring about his safety, but to love God supremely with that same intensity, trusting that as you put Him first, He will handle what you cannot.

When the spear pierced His side and blood and water flowed out, it testified to a heart that had literally broken under the weight of sin and sorrow He was carrying for us. He knows that specific, crushing pain intimately. For this young man, the healing will not come from simply forgetting or moving on, but from experiencing a far greater love. We love Him because He first loved us. His heart needs to be drawn to that first love, the fresh, exciting, all-surpassing love of Jesus that never abuses, never fails, and never grows cold. Pray that he will not seek to fill this void with the world’s temporary comforts, which only pass away, but that he will let the Spirit pour out that divine, self-sacrificing love directly into the deepest parts of his spirit. That is the love that brings true healing and makes him whole.
