"Do not believe the spirits, but test them to see if they're from God".We think of deception as the devil in the form of a snake misleading Adam and Eve.We think of deception as one person conning another out of, say, money. But do you realize Satan can use a loved one to deceive us?{And they, being deceived themselves, don't even realize it}{And us, trusting them, don't even realize it.}What made me think of this is, I've seen over and over again, how maybe one parent has a not so nice trait, and the offspring, without thinking, mirror it.Like, this neighbor who recently died.He used to exaggerate his importance to others, and thought if someone said one word over hello to him that they idolized him.Now he died, and I see the daughter is just the same. She thinks the neighbors were more "into" the father than they actually were, and thinks they, as mere neighbors, have the same level of devotion to him as she did.And like him, she's a user who expects others to jump through hoops when she holds them. Case 2-- my mother is fascinated by the occult. She sits transfixed by the tv for hours drinking it in,and has false beliefs about seeing psychics, reincarnation, etc.So guess what? My sister, thinking it was right because my mother does it,never used her own wisdom, and she, too, became a mindless follower of Satans way.I knew a whole family who was into the occult.I know another family who, the whole family have a lifestyle of making it through life leeching off of others ,and each other,to avoid personal responsibility. The son sees the mother do it, and he does the same thing. The point?Well, just because your family does it doesn't make it right, but even moreso--the devil uses different deceptions to get to different people.Someone might not be tempted by an "obvious" deception like drugs, etc. But if they grow up seeing a family member practicing a sin, the deception there is, if a "loved one" is doing it, there can't be anything wrong with it.So I believe the devil can use the loved one to influence the other. With me, it didn't work. I grew up amongst it, but never "bought in" to certain sins because a "loved one" did it.We must make our own spiritual decisions. A point?
