We join you in bringing this burden before the Lord and we share your desire to see hearts turned away from darkness and toward the light of Christ. We hear your repeated and earnest prayer for those who are celebrating Halloween in the communities you have laid before the Lord, that their interest in this holiday would fade and that they and their loved ones would come to salvation if they do not yet know Him.

We agree that Halloween is not a harmless celebration. Scripture calls us to have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather even reprove them, Ephesians 5:11, and to abstain from every form of evil, 1 Thessalonians 5:22. The practices often associated with this day, the glorification of death, fear, witchcraft, sorcery, and communication with the dead, are things God clearly warns against. There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices sorcery, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer, or a charmer, or a consulter with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh, Deuteronomy 18:10-12. The message of the gospel is that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all, 1 John 1:5, and what fellowship has light with darkness, 2 Corinthians 6:14. Jesus said, I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life, John 8:12.

We also rejoice that you prayed in the name of Jesus Christ, for there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12, and Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. It is only through Him that our prayers are heard and that any heart can be truly changed from loving darkness to loving truth.

We pray together with you now.

Heavenly Father, we lift up to You all those who are drawn to Halloween and to its focus on darkness and death. We ask that You touch their hearts by Your Holy Spirit and open their eyes to see that these things do not honor You. Take away their interest and attraction to this holiday and replace it with a hunger for what is pure, holy, and true. Turn them from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, Acts 26:18. If they do not yet know You as Savior, we pray that You would draw them to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, for You desire all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth, 1 Timothy 2:4, and You are not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance, 2 Peter 3:9. We also lift up their families, friends, and all those in their lives who may also need salvation, and we ask that You would work in their hearts as well. Help them to find joy not in celebrating darkness but in walking as children of light, bearing the fruit of goodness and righteousness and truth, Ephesians 5:8-9. We ask this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus Christ, amen.

We encourage you to continue to stand in prayer and to be a gentle light to those around you. As we are called to expose darkness, we do so not with harshness but with love, speaking the truth and living differently, so that others may see the hope we have in Christ and ask about it. Keep praying, keep sharing the gospel when the Lord opens the door, and trust that God is faithful to work in hearts in His perfect timing.

We hear your burden for the people in those communities you named, and we are grateful for your compassionate heart toward them. Wanting others to turn toward Jesus and to lose interest in what does not honor Him is a loving prayer to bring before the Father.

We join you in asking God to work in their hearts. Lasting change is not something we can produce in others, it is God's gracious work when He draws people to Himself, forgives and makes whole. We can keep bringing them to Him and trust Him to do what only He can do in each life.

A simple way to continue is to keep praying by name for those neighbors and communities as the Lord brings them to mind, and to be a quiet, kind witness where you are. A helpful act, a gracious word, and faithful prayer often show Christ's love more clearly than anything we might say about the holiday itself. We leave the results in His hands as we remain steady in prayer.

Father, we lift these people and communities to You and ask You to draw them to Yourself. Where there is need for salvation, we ask for Your mercy to be made known. Give them hearts that seek You and desire to walk with You. Guide them toward Your goodness and truth. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your prayer breathes a true compassion for souls that are perishing for lack of Christ, and such compassion ought to be found in all who know the Saviour. It is a hopeful sign when one prays for others, for the motions of God's Spirit in the hearts of His people are often the footfalls of His eternal purposes about to be fulfilled.

We join you in asking the Lord to work in the hearts of those who find pleasure in the darkness of this season. Our God is able to turn the heart as He will, to show that Christ shall be for a sanctuary to those who believe, while to others He remains a stone of stumbling. We pray that many who have stumbled at His holiness or have been content to live at ease without Him may be awakened to see their need of a Saviour, and may find in the finished work of Christ enough for their soul's repose.

We do not ask God to bless that which belongs to darkness, for without holiness no one shall see the Lord, and He has called us not unto uncleanness but unto holiness. Rather we pray that He would draw men and women away from vanity and from fellowship with works of darkness, and bring them to thirst after that living water which alone can satisfy the soul. There is no other fountain to drink from, and there is no other salvation, for salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, who was made a curse for us that we might be delivered from the curse.

Let us pray together. Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Thy Son, we ask Thee to have mercy upon those who are given to the celebration of Halloween and upon all who are in their circles of life. Convict them of sin, show them the plague of their own hearts, and take away all delight in that which does not honor Thee. Grant them repentance and faith, that they may believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved. Bring them from distance and separation into nearness through His blood, and teach them to follow after that practical holiness which Thy Spirit works. Let those who have not yet believed enter into rest by trusting wholly in Christ, and let those who already know Thee be stirred to earnest prayer and ardent effort for the souls around them. We ask this for Thy glory alone. Amen.

Your prayer is good and pleasing to God, and I join my voice with yours before Him. It is right to be burdened for those who are caught up in darkness and to ask the Lord to turn their hearts toward the light of Christ.

We have a great High Priest who ever lives to make intercession for us, and He is able to save to the uttermost those who come to God by Him. There is salvation in Christ Jesus alone, with eternal glory, and the word of the cross is the power of God to us who are being saved, though to those who are perishing it seems as foolishness. For this reason we weep for those who do not yet know this common salvation, and we love all people and desire to draw them over to it.

I pray with you that the Father would touch the hearts of those in your city and in every place you have named who celebrate this holiday, that He would take away their interest in it and show them its emptiness, and draw them instead to Himself. May He grant them repentance and faith if they are in need of salvation, and may He also save their families and friends who do not yet know Him. May He lead them to seek what is holy rather than what troubles and defiles, lest any root of bitterness spring up and many be defiled.

Do not grow weary in this prayer, and do not cast all the burden on teachers alone. We are called to exhort one another daily while it is called Today, and to edify and comfort one another. Continue to speak the truth in love to those around you, to warn gently and to build up, trusting that God hears the prayers offered through His Son.

May the Lord in His mercy hear this supplication, turn many hearts from empty customs to the living Christ, and keep you steadfast in love and prayer until all come to know His grace. In the name of Jesus Christ we ask this. Amen.
