Thorn in the Flesh
God uses our struggles to keep us humble and show His strength through our weakness.
We join you in prayer for deliverance and for purity of heart and mind, and we thank you for coming to the Father in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him we have access to God and it is only by His name we are saved and cleansed.

We hear your honest cry to be set free from lust and from intrusive sounds, songs, images, and memories that keep returning, including what you have seen on TikTok and from shows you watched when you were younger. Lust is not a small struggle, it is sin that defiles the heart and we must turn from it and flee from it. Jesus taught us in Matthew 5:28 that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. Scripture also says in 1 Corinthians 6:18 to flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. And in 2 Timothy 2:22 we are told to flee youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace. This means we do not entertain lust or negotiate with it, we turn away, we close the door, and we run toward Christ.

We also understand how music, images, and old shows can lodge in the mind and become a snare. What we look at and listen to feeds our heart. Proverbs 4:23 says Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life. And Romans 12:2 says Don't be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. God does not only forgive, He renews. He can cleanse the conscience, take every thought captive, and replace what is impure with what is pure. 2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us we are to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. Philippians 4:8 calls us to think about whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, think about these things.

We pray together for you now.

Father, we lift up this dear one to You in Jesus name and ask for Your mercy and deliverance. Forgive all lust and all impurity of thought, sight, and heart, for Your word says in 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Wash this heart clean by the blood of Jesus. Create in him a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within him as You promise in Psalm 51:10. We ask You to break the power of lust and to help him to flee from every occasion and source that fuels it, including TikTok and any image or person that has become a stumbling block. Give him strength to cut off what causes him to stumble and to guard his eyes and ears for Your glory. We ask You to quiet and remove the lingering sounds, songs, and titles and memories that torment his mind, and to fill his mind instead with Your word, with worship that honors You, and with thoughts that are pure and wholesome. Renew his mind day by day and help him to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit so that he walks not in the flesh but in the Spirit, bearing self control and peace. Lead him to wholesome fellowship and accountability with other believers who will encourage him in purity. We trust You to complete the good work You have begun and to keep him. In Jesus Christ name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to take practical steps in obedience while God does this renewing work. Remove access to what tempts you. Delete or stay away from TikTok and any music or videos that stir lust or keep those old sounds cycling in your mind, and be careful what you allow before your eyes, for Psalm 101:3 says I will set no vile thing before my eyes. Replace those hours with Scripture, prayer, and godly music and teaching that builds you up. Memorize verses to quote when temptation comes, and when a thought or tune returns, turn immediately to prayer and to Philippians 4:8 thinking. Walk in the light with a trusted mature Christian brother who can pray with you and ask you how you are doing. Submit to God and resist the devil and he will flee from you as James 4:7 promises. God is able to deliver you fully and to give you a pure heart that desires what He desires.

We hear how weary you are of these thoughts, sounds, and images replaying when you don't want them to, and how sincerely you want to be free and clean before God. Wanting that freedom is a good and honest desire, and we are grateful you brought it to Him so plainly.

It can feel like the way to get free is to force every memory and song out of your mind at once, but trying to push that hard often makes those thoughts stick even more. The Lord more often renews us gradually as we keep turning to Him, learning to notice an unwanted thought and hand it to Him rather than wrestling with it or following it.

One practical step that helps many is to reduce what feeds the cycle. If certain music or scrolling on TikTok tends to bring the images and lustful thoughts back, giving yourself a clear break from those sources for a season can create space for your mind to settle. When a memory or tune does intrude, try a simple, quick turn to Jesus in prayer and then gently redirect your attention to what is in front of you, instead of arguing with the thought. If these intrusive thoughts stay very sticky, it can also help to talk regularly with a trusted pastor or mature believer for encouragement and accountability.

Father, we bring our friend to You and ask for Your mercy and cleansing. Quiet the intrusive sounds and images that trouble him, guard his mind, and give him strength to walk in purity and peace. Lead him day by day and help him know he is heard and loved in Christ. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your prayer has been brought before the Lord and we join with you in seeking His deliverance and cleansing.

We hear in your request a sincere desire to be free from lust and from those sounds and images and memories that so easily entangle the mind. Scripture teaches us plainly that every man is tempted when he is drawn away of his own lust and enticed, and that when lust has conceived it brings forth sin, and sin when it is finished brings forth death. There is no comfort in making peace with such temptations, but there is great hope in fleeing from them and walking circumspectly in the way of holiness, which is a clean way where the unclean shall not pass over it.

You are right to ask for deliverance, for the strength of sin is great and the thoughts of the heart can become a multitude within us. Yet how precious are God's thoughts toward His people. They are constant, kind, wise and gracious, and they are thoughts of love from everlasting. When we set our thoughts upon His thoughts, and let Christ have the best of our thoughts, the first growth of our spirit, we are kept near to Him. The Lord knows how to cleanse the mind that has been crowded with vanities, and to give new and believing and thankful thoughts that bear holy fruit.

The victory you seek is not won by your own resolve alone. Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. He has poured out His soul unto death and He has won the victory over every force of evil. Satan's power is broken by that victory, and the same quiet power of the Holy Spirit that dwelt in Christ can dwell in you to make you win the same victory by faith. When the Head has triumphed, every member of His body shares in that triumph, and we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.

Therefore look to Christ alone for salvation and for strength to live purely before Him. He alone saves, and He alone can keep you. Flee those occasions that feed lust, whether it be lingering sounds or songs or images upon TikTok or elsewhere, and turn the eyes and ears away from what defiles. Do not run carelessly into the puddle where you will be splashed with mire, but walk carefully, guarding the avenues of the soul. Fill the mind with Scripture, with prayer, with wholesome meditation upon Christ, that when you awake you may still be with Him and that His comforts may delight your soul in the multitude of your thoughts.

We pray for you now that the Lord would deliver you from all lust and from every snare that has fastened upon your memory and imagination. May He wash your heart in the blood of Christ, renew your mind by His Spirit, and remove far from you those former sounds and titles and images that trouble you, that you may be kept in purity and charity. May He grant you a hatred for sin and a love for holiness, and may He establish your feet upon the clean way, keeping you by His power unto the day when this mortal shall put on immortality and death shall be swallowed up in victory.

We encourage you to continue in prayer, in the Word, and in fellowship with faithful believers who will help you to watch over your soul, trusting not in your own strength but in Him who has overcome the world.

Your honest prayer for deliverance has been heard, and we join you in bringing it before the heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have salvation and adoption as sons.

We pray that God who delivers from evil and supplies all good will cleanse your heart and mind and give you strength to walk in purity. Scripture teaches that lust does not begin with the outward act alone, but with the look and the desire gathered into the heart. When we willingly bring that wild beast upon our thoughts while they are calm, we kindle a furnace that will surely take hold of us. For that reason Christ warns us to take away even the unchaste look before it becomes a deed, and to guard the heart at its first movement. We ask the Lord to forgive what has been harbored in thought and sight, and to give you grace to turn away firmly from what feeds it.

We pray also as you have asked concerning the sounds of music and songs, the images from TikTok and the memory of that person, and the memories of shows and videos from your younger years, including Barney and Arthur and other titles that linger in your mind. We ask God to quiet what troubles you, to remove what is unhelpful and impure from your memory, and to renew your mind. You have power through Christ to direct your eye not to smoke and dust, which are all passing human things, but to what is heavenly and pure and full of calmness. When the eye is set free from an evil conscience and feasts not on the things of the flesh but on temperance, moderation and every virtue, it becomes vigorous and strong and is nourished with good hope.

We pray that God will help you to hate what is evil and to cling to what is good, not only to avoid the outward act but to have a deep aversion to vice itself. Virtue is learned step by step, as a child learns letters, first one row and then the next. So we ask the Lord to teach you day by day not to lust, not to envy, not to give way to excess, and to grow in continence, gentleness and a contrite mind, writing these things upon your soul.

We also pray that you will find nourishment not in anxious thoughts or in what fades quickly, but in virtuous hope and the expectation of good things from God. May He fill the space left by those memories and sounds with His Word, with prayer, with wholesome fellowship and with thoughts that build you up. If music or images or an app cause you to stumble, we pray for wisdom to put them aside and to set guards for your eyes and ears, and for faithful brothers or sisters to walk with you and hold you accountable.

We agree with you in this prayer:

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ deliver this your child from all lust and from every image and sound that stirs it. Wash away guilt by the blood of Christ, cleanse the conscience, and take away the memories and titles and songs that cling to the mind and lead toward temptation. Remove the hold of that person seen on TikTok, and turn the heart away from desire for what is not yours and not within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman where alone such intimacy belongs. Fill the mind with what is pure and good, restore the eye to look upon heavenly things, and nourish the soul with hope in you. Grant strength to hate evil, to love what is good, and to walk step by step in holiness. Keep this child in your mercy and make him steadfast. In Jesus Christ name, amen.
