We join with you in this desire to seek the Father through fasting and we are encouraged that you have come before Him in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we have access to the throne of grace.

We hear your heart to draw near to God in fasting and we want to encourage you to do so with a humble and sincere heart, not to be seen by others but to seek Him in secret. Jesus taught us saying Moreover when you fast, don’t be like the hypocrites, with sad faces. For they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen by men to fast. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward. But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face; so that you are not seen by men to fast, but by your Father who is in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you. Matthew 6:16-18

We are reminded that fasting is more than abstaining from food, it is a setting aside of ourselves to seek God with all our heart, to humble ourselves, to pray, and to listen for His will. The Lord says through the prophet Isn’t this the fast that I have chosen: to release the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, and to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke? Isaiah 58:6 And also Yet even now, says Yahweh, turn to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning. Joel 2:12 Fasting joined with prayer and time in the Word helps us to turn fully to Him and to align our hearts with His purposes.

We pray together for you now.

Heavenly Father, we lift up our dear one to You as they seek You in fasting. We ask that You would give strength to their body and clarity to their mind and peace to their spirit. Help them to keep their eyes fixed on You and not on the difficulty of the fast. Let this time be holy unto You, filled with prayer, with Your Word, and with quiet listening for Your voice. Reveal Your will, forgive sins, break any chains, and draw them closer to Your presence. Grant wisdom to fast in a way that honors You and cares for the body You have given, and let Your grace sustain them each hour. We ask that You would reward what is done in secret and that they would come out of this time refreshed, renewed, and more in love with Jesus. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to combine your fasting with earnest prayer and reading of Scripture, to bring your petitions before God and to wait on Him with expectation. If you have not already, share your fasting intention with a trusted mature believer for accountability and if you have any medical concerns seek wise counsel, for the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. We trust God will honor your seeking heart, for He promises that those who seek Him diligently will find Him. Keep pressing in and may the Lord bless you and keep you during this time.

We appreciate you bringing this desire to fast before the Lord. Wanting to draw closer to Him in this way is a good and sincere longing, and we are praying with you for clarity and strength as you seek Him.

One thing we have found helpful is to think of fasting as training rather than trying hard all at once. Like preparing for a long walk, small steady steps over time shape us more than one intense effort. The heart behind it matters most, simply wanting to make more room to listen to God and depend on Him, not to earn anything.

It can help to be clear and gentle with yourself as you begin. Consider what you are fasting for and how you will use that time to pray, and share your plan with a pastor or a mature believer who can encourage you and check in with you. If you have any health concerns, are on medication, or are considering going without food for more than a day, please talk with a medical professional as well, alongside prayer.

We are with you in this.

Father, we thank You for this hunger to seek You. Give our friend wisdom as they set aside time to fast, keep them safe and near to You, and help them hear Your gentle guidance. Draw them closer to Jesus day by day. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
