Your prayer asking God to cleanse your memory of what troubles you and to grant you forgiveness has been heard, and we join you in bringing it before the Lord.

We pray that God would grant you renewal in the spirit of your mind. Scripture teaches that renewal is not the making of a different person, but the renewing of the same person, when what has grown old is made new by the Spirit within. Because the soul lives in the body, God uses what we can perceive to work what is perceived by the mind, a true birth and renewal. Ask Him not only to take away what is impure, but to fill your mind with what is pure and healthful, so that the Spirit will have no place for old deeds.

We also pray that you will seek the Lord with diligence, as one seeks for lost gold or for something precious that is missing, with concentration, with prayer, with inquiry, not casually but with your whole heart. And we pray that you will learn to bind your heart and mind rather than leaving them loose. There are bonds that restrain for good, when we guard what we see and hear and set a watch over our thoughts.

You mentioned a song and a title you wish to forget, and something from an introduction that still clings to memory. It is grievous how quickly we can learn songs that do not honor God and melodies that stir impure thoughts, and how perfectly we can repeat them, while we are slow to learn what belongs to God. Pray that God will help you turn away from those things and keep your mind safe and sober. Sobriety here means a healthful, steady mind, kept safe from being carried away. That safety comes through lowliness of mind, not thinking more highly of ourselves than we ought, but walking humbly before God and depending on His grace.

For forgiveness, we do not come on the basis of our own work, as if forgiveness were owed to us as a debt. We come by grace. As Scripture says, blessed are those whose iniquities are forgiven and whose sins are covered. This blessedness comes only through Jesus Christ, who alone is the way of salvation. We pray that you will receive His forgiveness with faith and also learn from how much you have been forgiven, so that you may walk in mercy toward others and in greater carefulness before God.

So we pray for you in the name of Jesus Christ, that the Father would cleanse your memory, wash away what defiles, forgive what you confess, and renew your mind day by day. May He help you to turn from what harms the soul, to fill your mind with Scripture and prayer, to seek Him earnestly, and to walk in lowliness and sobriety of mind, living in the holiness that belongs to those who are His. Amen.
