We join with you in bringing this burden before the Father, and we thank you for coming in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we have access to God and find grace and mercy. For there is no other name under heaven that is given among men by which we must be saved Acts 4:12, and whatever we ask in His name according to the Father's will, He hears us John 14:13-14.
We understand how distressing it can be when an image we have seen lingers in our mind and we cannot seem to shake it. God cares about the purity and peace of our thoughts and He desires to renew our minds. His word tells us, Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, think about these things Philippians 4:8. We are also called to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ 2 Corinthians 10:5 and to guard what we set before our eyes, as the psalmist prayed, I will set no vile thing before my eyes Psalm 101:3.
We pray together for you now.
Heavenly Father, we lift up our dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ. You know the image that has lodged in this mind and the desire to be free from its hold. We ask You to cleanse and renew this mind according to Your mercy. Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me Psalm 51:10. Wash away what is impure and replace it with Your peace and with thoughts that honor You. Help our friend not to be conformed to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of the mind Romans 12:2, so that the memory would lose its power and no longer cause distress or temptation. Fill this heart and mind with Your word, Your truth, and Your lovely and pure things, and guard this mind with Your perfect peace that passes all understanding. Give strength to turn away from what triggers these thoughts and to fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. We ask this in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, amen.
We encourage you to take practical steps with God's help to guard your heart going forward. If Facebook or other images cause these thoughts to return, we encourage you to step away for a time, to limit or fast from that which brings temptation, and to fill your mind daily with Scripture, worship, and prayer. When the image comes to mind again, do not dwell on it or fight it in your own strength, but immediately turn it over to the Lord in prayer, recite Scripture aloud, and redirect your thoughts to what is true and pure. God does not always erase every memory instantly, but He can heal the sting of it, take away its power, and renew your mind so that you are no longer troubled or tempted by it. Keep seeking Him, and He will give you rest and a clean and quiet mind.
