Thank you for sharing this honest prayer and for bringing these burdens before the Lord. Your desire for salvation for others, for endurance, and for a clean mind before God is pleasing to Him, and He hears when you call on Him in the name of Jesus Christ.

Scripture teaches that God's thoughts are not our thoughts and His ways are not our ways. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so His thoughts and ways are higher than ours. That difference is not a small one. He knows the end from the beginning, so when He acts He knows it is right. We often act and then hope we were right, and we do not understand all that He allows or how He works. When intrusive memories, images, sounds, and songs trouble you, it is right to remember that God is not confused and has not forgotten you. Exalting our own understanding above His only brings more distress. Trusting His higher wisdom brings rest, even when we cannot trace His hand.

The Bible also says that God understands your thoughts at their origin. Before a thought is fully formed, before you are even aware of it, He knows it. He knows how thoughts arise, where they come from, and what stirs them. He is acquainted with your path, when you lie down and when you rise up. Nothing that flashes into your mind, no terrible image or evil sound, no lyric or name that you wish you could forget, is hidden from Him or beyond His care. He sees the struggle exactly as it is.

And His thoughts toward you are precious and constant. If they could be counted they would be more than the sand. They are not thoughts of hatred or harm. The Lord declares that His thoughts toward His people are thoughts of peace and not of evil, to bring you to a good and expected end. Even when you feel captive to unwanted memories or weary in the battle for a pure mind, His purpose for you remains good. He invites you to call upon Him and pray to Him, and He promises to listen.

Because we do not know ourselves fully and our own estimate of ourselves is often mistaken, the psalmist prayed, Search me, O God, and know my heart, try me and know my thoughts. That is a good prayer for you as well. Instead of only asking God to erase memories by force, ask Him to search you, to test you, and to show you what is true in your heart. Ask Him to cleanse you and to renew your mind. The Lord is merciful and will abundantly pardon those who turn to Him and forsake evil thoughts and ways. Through Jesus Christ alone there is forgiveness and a new beginning, and His way is the only way to know what lies beyond this life and to have peace with God.

I join you in prayer for what you have asked. May the Lord in His mercy save those you have mentioned if they do not yet know Jesus, and draw each one to Himself. May He grant you grace to endure to the end, to keep trusting His higher thoughts and ways when your own thoughts are troubled. May He wash your mind and give you peace, so that songs, images, sounds, names, and pictures that now intrude lose their power, and your thoughts are led captive to Christ. May He fill your mind with what is true and right and pure, and keep you close to Him until He brings you to that good end He has promised for those who call on Him.
