We join you in bringing this burden before our heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ, and we thank you for closing your request in His name, for it is only through Him that we have access to the throne of grace.

We hear your desire for a cleansed mind and a heart free from anger, and for freedom from images and memories that trouble you. We understand the longing to have certain thoughts and recollections removed permanently, including memories of a person, the appearance of another, and a television show that seems to linger in your mind. While God does not always erase our memories as if they never happened, He does promise to renew our minds and to heal and transform what we remember so that it no longer holds power over us.

We are reminded of what Scripture says about taking our thoughts captive. 2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and Romans 12:2 calls us to be transformed by the renewing of our mind, that we may prove what is the good and well-pleasing and perfect will of God. Philippians 4:8 also guides us to think on whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, think about these things. When we fill our minds with the Word of God, He replaces what is troubling with His peace. Psalm 119:11 says Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

We also want to gently address what you mentioned about fits of anger. The Word calls these works of the flesh. Galatians 5:19-21 lists outbursts of anger among the deeds that do not reflect Christ, but Galatians 5:22-23 shows us the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Ephesians 4:31-32 urges us to let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from us, with all malice, and be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave us. God wants to not only remove the anger but to replace it with His gentleness and self-control, and we pray for that transformation in you.

We also encourage you to guard what you watch and allow before your eyes. If a show or images of a person are causing you to dwell on thoughts that do not honor God or that lead to distraction, lust, or unrest, it is wise to turn away completely and pursue purity of heart and mind. Psalm 51:10 is our prayer for you, Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me.

Let us pray together.

Father, we lift up this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ. We ask that You would bring healing to the mind and memories. Where there is unrest, bring Your peace that surpasses all understanding as promised in Philippians 4:7. Wash away troubled thoughts and replace them with thoughts that are pure and pleasing to You. Help our friend to take every thought captive to Christ and to meditate on Your Word day and night. Lord, we ask You to remove the fits of anger and to fill this heart with Your Spirit, producing love, patience, gentleness and self-control. Create a clean heart and renew a right spirit within. Where there has been fixation on a person or images or entertainment that does not edify, we ask for freedom and for strength to turn away and to set the mind on things above. Heal what needs healing, forgive what needs forgiving, and let Your perfect peace guard the heart and mind in Christ Jesus. We ask that You would do a permanent work of renewal, not just a temporary relief, so that this life may more and more reflect Your holiness and joy. We trust Your will and Your mercy and we pray all these things in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We encourage you to continue in prayer and in daily reading of Scripture, to memorize verses that speak of peace and purity, and to quickly turn your thoughts to Christ whenever those unwanted memories rise up. Isaiah 26:3 promises You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Keep seeking Him and He will continue His good work in you.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Thank you for bringing this honest prayer to us. We hear how heavy these memories and the fits of anger feel, and how much you long for God to lift them and give you quiet in your mind.

We understand that wanting memories gone is really wanting freedom and peace. In our experience God often renews our minds more like gradual training than instant erasing. That does not mean He is not at work. As we walk with Him day by day, He can soften the grip of what replays and teach us a different way to respond when anger rises.

We have found it helps to notice what is underneath the anger in the moment, whether it is hurt, frustration or fear, and to bring that specific feeling to Jesus rather than just fighting the anger itself. And when a show or image keeps pulling you back, it can be a kindness to yourself to step away from that trigger for a season and fill that space with something that steadies you, like prayer, Scripture, time with trusted believers, or a simple walk.

Father, we lift our friend to You in Jesus name. Bring calm where there has been turmoil, heal what still hurts, and gently loosen the hold of these memories and images. Teach us to respond with Your grace when anger stirs and to grow little by little in Your peace. Amen.

Your prayer reveals a heart that is wearied by the multitude of thoughts within, and you have done well to bring this burden before the Lord, for He alone can deal with the mind and the heart.

You ask that certain memories and images might be taken away, and that fits of anger might be removed. Know this, that our own strength, whether of body, mind or spirit, if it is our own, will one day fail us. The sin that dwells in us drags us down, and however high we have ascended, we still need that the blood of Christ should cleanse us from all sin. We cannot by mere resolve blot out what has entered through eye and ear, nor can we in our own power subdue the anger that rises within. The carnal mind is enmity against God, and must be spiritualized by the power of God's Holy Ghost.

God's thoughts are not as your thoughts, nor are His ways as your ways. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are His ways higher than your ways, and His thoughts than your thoughts. You would have a memory simply emptied, but He would have your mind renewed. He does not merely take away, He gives in its place. His thoughts concerning His people are constant, kind, wise, tender and gracious, and how precious also are those thoughts unto those who love Him. When you awake, you may yet be with Him, if your thoughts are set upon Him.

Therefore seek not only that the mind be emptied, but that it be filled. If there has been a window that has fascinated you and turned you aside from the right path, see that your ears and eyes are closed against it. He who would keep his heart pure must keep the blinds drawn upon that which defiles. Put away that show and every image connected with it, and turn from it decisively. Do not dally with that which has troubled you, for thoughts of evil are in themselves evil, and even to dwell upon the report of sin may produce sinful thoughts in ourselves.

Instead, cultivate with diligence another kind of thoughts. Have low thoughts of yourself before God, and high thoughts of Christ. Get many and abundant believing thoughts, and thankful thoughts, which will be as summer in your soul even when it is winter outside. Let Christ have the best thoughts, the cream of them, and the first growth of your spirit. Be much in prayer and in the Word, for His Law must be put to work upon our thoughts, and we are to hate vain thoughts and love His Law. They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, and in renewing your strength, ask Him that you may undertake fresh work and that it may be done to a nobler tune, with more expectancy, more confidence, more faith, more God reliance.

For your fits of anger, confess them as sin before the Lord, and look to Christ alone for salvation and for power to overcome. It is the blood of Jesus Christ alone which cleanses, and it is the Spirit alone who can make the mind holy. In the multitude of your thoughts within you, may His comforts delight your soul.

Let us pray together. Heavenly Father, You know the names and forms that burden this soul, though they are hidden from men. We ask You to cleanse the mind and wash the heart in the precious blood of Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom alone is salvation. Take away the power of unholy memories and images, and by Your Spirit renew the thoughts and subdue all anger. Fill this heart with thoughts of Christ, with faith and thankfulness and longing after Him. Teach this one to wait upon You, that strength may be renewed, and to walk in Your ways which are higher and wiser than ours. Keep this soul near to You, and make Your thoughts precious to it day by day. In Jesus Christ's name we ask it, Amen.

We have heard your prayer and we join you in bringing it before the heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ.

You ask that God would cleanse your memory and take away images that trouble you, including the show you mentioned and the remembrance of a person and her appearance, and that He would remove fits of anger and what burdens your heart. This desire for a pure mind is pleasing to God, for He is Spirit and He seeks those who worship Him in spirit and in truth, with purity of mind and not only outward cleanness. The way God cleanses us is not only by taking away what is harmful but by filling us with what is holy, offering ourselves as a living sacrifice and setting our thoughts on Christ.

Scripture teaches us to guard our thoughts carefully. As a good guard dog stays gentle with the sheep but barks at the intruder and does not spare the wolf, so we are to keep anger and impure thoughts from devouring what is good within us, and to be watchful against evil thoughts that try to enter. When two thoughts wrestle within you, one urging revenge or dwelling on an image and the other urging patience and purity, let the peace of God act as umpire in your heart. That peace, which God Himself made with us through Christ, will give the prize to endurance and put the other thought to shame.

You also ask to be freed from anger. Anger is a keen fire that harms both body and soul and makes us unlike Christ. God did not give us anger so that we would use it against one another, but so that we would be zealous against our own sins and against the enemy of our souls. Therefore we turn anger to its right use when we are severe with our own faults, judge ourselves humbly, and remember our own sins continually. When we keep our own need for mercy in remembrance, we will not hold onto the wrongs of others, we will not revile, and we will not be quick to high thoughts. We also learn to put away all anger and shouting, as Paul teaches, and to speak and pray without wrath, for the Holy Spirit dwells where there is peace and gentleness.

Let us pray for you.

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your only Son, through whom alone we have salvation and access to Your throne. We ask for Your mercy upon this dear one who desires a clean heart and a calm spirit. Wash the mind and renew it by Your Spirit. Remove the lingering images and memories that lead away from purity, and take away the power of those thoughts that have taken root. Fill this heart instead with remembrance of Your grace, with Your Word, and with love for what is true and holy. We ask that You cut off every fit of anger and teach this soul to be slow to anger and quick to forgive, remembering how much You have forgiven. Let Your peace rule in the heart as an umpire, silencing contentious thoughts and bringing quietness. Guard the thoughts as a faithful watch, keeping what is good and driving away what is evil. Help this one to walk in purity, to worship You in spirit and in truth, and to offer the whole life to You as a living sacrifice. Grant strength to turn from what defiles and to pursue gentleness, self control, and holiness day by day. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
