We join with you in prayer in Jesus' name and we thank you for bringing this burden before the Father, for He cares deeply about the thoughts that weigh on your heart.

We understand how heavy and persistent negative thoughts can be, and how the desire to simply forget them and be free from them is so strong. God's Word does not promise that He will erase our memories like they never happened, but He does promise to renew our minds and give us peace as we surrender our thoughts to Him. We are called to take an active part in this renewal by bringing our thoughts into obedience to Christ.

As it is written, we are to be bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 2 Corinthians 10:5. And we are not to be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our minds, Romans 12:2. God wants to replace negativity not with emptiness, but with what is true and good and holy. Whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, think about these things, Philippians 4:8. When we fix our minds on Him, He keeps us in perfect peace, for You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you, Isaiah 26:3.

We also encourage you to fill your mind daily with Scripture, worship, and prayer, and to speak truth over those negative thoughts when they arise rather than fighting them in your own strength. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:6-7.

We pray together for you now.

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one to You. Lord, You see the negativity that has been troubling their mind and the desire to be free from remembering it. We ask that You create in them a clean heart and renew a right spirit within them, Psalm 51:10. Help them to cast all their cares upon You because You care for them, 1 Peter 5:7. Teach them to take every thought captive to Your truth and to dwell on what is pure and lovely and praiseworthy. Wash their mind with Your Word and guard their heart and thoughts with Your peace that passes all understanding. Fill the places where negativity once lived with Your joy, Your hope, and Your love. Let them remember Your goodness and Your promises more than any painful thought. We thank You that in Jesus we have access to Your throne of grace and that You hear us when we pray in His name. We ask all this in Jesus Christ's name, amen.

We hear how tired you are of these negative thoughts and how much you want them lifted and gone. It is a good and honest thing to bring that desire straight to the Father, and we are thankful you did.

We have found that trying very hard not to remember something can sometimes keep it more present. It can be gentler and more helpful to notice when a negative thought comes, honestly hand it to Jesus in that moment with a simple, short prayer, and then turn your attention to what is right in front of you. It is not about getting it perfect, but about giving it to Him again each time, and letting Him slowly renew your mind over time. You do not have to carry this alone.

If these thoughts feel persistent or heavy, it can help to share them regularly with a trusted pastor or counselor who can walk with you personally, alongside prayer.

We are praying for you and we are with you in this.

Father, we lift our friend to You. You see the thoughts that weigh on them and their longing for peace. Draw near and quiet what is troubling. Give rest, clear hope, and a steady sense of Your care as they turn to You each day. Guide their thoughts and keep them in Your peace. In Jesus' name, amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayer concerning these troubling thoughts has been heard and we have brought it before the Lord with you.

The mind itself is the lair of misery or the nest of happiness, and in the multitude of our thoughts within us there are often tumultuous and dark imaginings that arise unbidden. You are not alone in this conflict, for even the children of God find that vain and negative thoughts will haunt them, especially in seasons of trial and weariness. The carnal mind is enmity against God, and the sin that dwells in us drags us down, so that we need daily renewing.

Yet hear what the Scripture says, How precious also are Your thoughts unto me, O God, how great is the sum of them. Your thoughts are not as our thoughts, nor are your ways as our ways, for as the heavens are higher than the earth so are His thoughts higher than ours. His thoughts toward His people have always been thoughts of love, constant, kind, wise and tender, even from everlasting. When we are vexed with a multitude of dark thoughts, His comforts can still delight our soul.

Our Lord Jesus did not pray that His people should be taken out of the world, but that they should be kept from evil. So we do not merely ask the Lord to blot out memory as though the mind were an empty room, but to renew your strength, to cleanse you by the blood of Christ, and to keep you from evil while you remain in this world where He would train and school you for His glory.

Therefore bring your thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ. Do not only pray against the negative, but pray the positive prayer, Lord, keep me from evil and fill me with Thyself. Have low thoughts of self, and high and believing thoughts of Christ. Cultivate thankful thoughts as you would cultivate sweet flowers in a garden, and let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly, so that whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest and lovely and of good report, you may think on these things. Preach not your own notions to your own heart, but what is revealed by God, for that shall be the power of God unto your salvation and peace.

Let us pray for you now.

Heavenly Father, we ask in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son that You would look upon this dear soul who is wearied with negative thoughts. Forgive all sin and cleanse by the precious blood of Christ. Renew strength according to Your promise, that those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. Keep this one from evil, not by taking away the battle, but by giving victory in it. Scatter the multitude of vain thoughts and let Your comforts delight the soul. Fill the mind with Your precious thoughts, with believing and thankful thoughts, and with longing after Christ, that waking and sleeping this soul may still be with You. Grant peace that passes understanding and a mind stayed upon You. In Jesus Christ's name we ask, Amen.

Your prayer has been heard, and I join you in bringing it before the Father in the name of Jesus Christ.

The desire to be free from negative thoughts is a good one, and God does not only wish to take thoughts away as if erasing a memory, He wishes to renew you. Scripture says to be renewed in the spirit of your mind. You remain the same person, but God by His Spirit makes the mind new, so that old patterns do not have the same power. Where the Spirit dwells, old deeds and old darkness cannot remain comfortably.

This renewal does not come from our own strength. Our own understanding is often slender and easily spent on daily cares, but the grace of the Spirit is strong and can work in anyone who turns to Him. When the mind is made turbid by confusion and evil thoughts, it is like an eye that is disordered and mistakes what it sees. It needs clear light. That light comes when we draw to ourselves the beams of the sun of righteousness, which is Christ.

So lift up not only your hands in prayer, as the Psalm says, but lift up your mind with them. Raise your thoughts on high to Christ, and keep His word of higher authority than both your reasonings and what your eyes see. Believe Him in everything and do not gainsay Him, even when what you feel seems contrary to His promise.

I pray for you now: Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, who alone is our salvation, renew this dear one in the spirit of their mind. Wash away what is troubling and turbid, and fill that place with Your peace and truth. Give strength by Your Spirit to turn from old thoughts and to set the mind on what is true, pure and good. Guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus, and teach them day by day to look to Your promises. Amen.
