Silas
Beloved of All
Your request for the Lord to take away painful things from your memory has been heard, and I join you in bringing it before Jesus in prayer.
God understands how heavy memories can be and how they can occupy the mind. Scripture teaches that our mind tends to dwell on what rules us. When the needs and wounds of our fallen nature rule us, the mind is filled with things that bring death and unrest and is in conflict with God. When the Holy Spirit rules us, the mind is filled with the things of the Spirit, and that brings life and peace. That is why we are urged to let the same attitude be in us that was in Christ Jesus, who humbled himself and came from glory to serve and to give himself on the cross. He invites us to learn that humble, serving mind, and to be of one heart with him.
The question is never whether God is able to heal. He has power in every realm, over bodies and over spirits, and he is willing to touch the places that torment us. Sometimes his healing is immediate and sometimes it is a gradual work, but any true healing is from him. He can heal not only the body but also the wounds and scars carried in the emotions and the mind. He does this work with eternity in view. We often think only of relief today or tomorrow, but he is always working for what will bring us eternal good and lasting wholeness. That means he may remove a memory, or he may heal the pain attached to it and give you peace when it comes to mind, so that it no longer has power over you.
Part of this healing also involves what we choose to set before our minds. Because you were made in the image of God you have the ability to choose where your mind dwells. What you fill your mind with is what will return when your mind is quiet. If it is filled with the things of the world, those things will echo there. If it is filled with the Word of God, with worship and with the things of the Spirit, then life and peace have room to grow. I encourage you to continually fill your mind with Scripture and with worship, to bring every painful thought to Jesus and ask him to replace it with his truth.
Prayer is not trying to change the mind of God, as if we could persuade him to be good. He is sovereign and his mind is settled in love and goodness toward you. Prayer opens the door for what is already in his heart to be accomplished in your life. What he desires is your life, your peace, and your freedom.
Let me pray for you. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ I bring this dear one to you. You see the memories that cause pain and you know each one. I ask that you would do a healing work in the mind and heart. Where there is torment, bring your peace. Where there are wounds, bring your healing. Take away what needs to be taken away, and where memories remain, take away their sting and fill that place with your Spirit. Give a mind set on the Spirit, which is life and peace, and form the attitude of Christ within. Comfort with your love and fellowship, and cause worship and truth to dwell richly. Lead in the way of lasting wholeness, for your glory. Amen.
Keep seeking the Lord and letting him fill your mind with his presence. He is faithful to complete the good work he has begun in you.
