It is a good and acceptable thing that you have brought these two couples and those connected with them before the throne of grace, and we will join our supplications with yours.
Intercessory prayer is the sweetest prayer God ever hears, for the prayer of Christ Himself is of this character, when He cried for His own people, Father, keep them from the evil. Remember also that it is exceedingly prevalent. What wonders it has wrought. It has stayed plagues and it has raised the dead, and as to how many souls it has instrumentally saved, eternity itself shall reveal. There is nothing which believing intercessory prayer cannot do when offered according to the will of God. We are permitted to open our mouth before the Lord for the troubled and for those who are yet without Christ, with the assurance that whatever we shall ask in prayer, believing, we shall receive. In this thing great honor is put upon us, and it is also most excellent, for it benefits those who use it and knits our hearts together in love, and prayer is the most essential thing in turning sinners from the error of their ways.
Let us therefore agonize together with you in prayer to God for them, not with words which foam themselves away, but with humble boldness and intensity of desire.
Heavenly Father, we beseech Thee to have mercy upon these two couples and upon every soul in their families and among their friends who is yet unsaved. If any among them have not yet believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, grant them repentance and faith, that they may be saved by grace alone through Christ alone, washed in His blood and clothed in His righteousness. Bring them from darkness to light and from the power of sin to the service of the living God. Where any walk in a way contrary to Thy holy Word, whether in life or in love or in the covenant of marriage which Thou hast ordained to be the lifelong union of one man and one woman, grant them to see Thy truth and to be conformed to Thy good and perfect will, that their lives may be made holy and pleasing unto Thee. Revive Thy work in them and cause Thy face to shine upon them, that they may live to Thy glory. We ask this not because we are worthy, but because Jesus ever liveth to make intercession for us, and His plea must prevail.
