We join you in bringing this request before our heavenly Father and we thank you for coming to Him in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Jesus that we have access to the throne of grace.
We understand your desire for painful or unwanted memories to be removed from the minds and hearts of those you have lifted up, and we know the Lord hears the cry for peace and healing. While God does not always erase our memories completely, He promises to heal what wounds us and to renew our minds so that those memories no longer hold power over us.
The scripture reminds us of His healing nature, Psalm 147:3 says He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. And Isaiah 43:18-19 says Don't remember the former things, and don't consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing. It springs out now. And Romans 12:2 tells us to be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God.
We also are called to take an active part in this renewal, 2 Corinthians 10:5 reminds us to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and Philippians 4:8 encourages us, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, think about these things.
Together we pray for those you mentioned. Father in heaven, we lift up to You the two dear ones on this heart, and we ask in the name of Jesus Christ that You would bring Your healing to their minds and memories. Lord, if there are memories that cause pain, shame, anxiety, or temptation, we ask that You would soften their sting, remove their power, and replace them with Your peace. Wash them in Your mercy and help them to release what needs to be forgiven and to dwell on what is good and pure and lovely in Your sight. Renew their minds daily by Your Holy Spirit and Your Word, and guard their hearts and thoughts.
We pray Philippians 4:6-7 over them, that in nothing they would be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, their requests would be made known to You, and that Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, would guard their hearts and their thoughts in Christ Jesus. Help them to look forward to the new thing You are doing rather than being held captive by the past. We ask this with thanksgiving in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, amen.
