It is a sweet and sure comfort that the living God is not far from any one of us, for in Him we live, and move, and have our being. You have asked the heavenly Father to remember, and I would have you know that our hope rests not in our power to remind God, but in His gracious remembrance of His covenant.
The Scripture says He looked upon His people in their affliction and remembered His covenant for their sakes. God cannot remember to any practical purpose that which does not exist, but His covenant in Christ Jesus still stands, it has never been repealed or abrogated, and therefore to remember it is to act upon it in mercy. This is the great ground of hope for all who are in covenant with God through faith in His Son.
You have committed a number, a matter known fully to the Lord though hidden from others, into His hands. I know of nothing more delightful to the believer than every morning to commit the day's troubles to God and then to go down into the world feeling, my Father knows it all. He who is your refuge when you have strength to fly to Him, and your everlasting arms to sustain you when you have no strength at all, is able to keep that which you commit unto Him.
If you are trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ alone for salvation, rejoice also in this other remembrance, that He says, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions for Mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins. The wicked shall go away unto everlasting punishment and the righteous unto eternal life, but if you are forgiven, God will never remember your sins so as to punish you for them. Think not that He is a far away mysterious Being who takes no notice of man, but draw near to Him who is near to you.
Therefore seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, give yourself wholly up to God and live only to glorify Him, and leave this burden with Him in prayer. May the Lord grant you grace to trust and not to fear, to believe His word and to take Him at His promise, and to remember His wonderful works with thanksgiving, for His mercy endureth forever.
We join our prayer with yours, that the Father would look upon you in love for Christ's sake, do for you that which is best according to His wisdom and covenant mercy, and give you peace in waiting upon Him. In the name of Jesus Christ our only Mediator and Saviour we ask it. Amen.
