We join you in this beautiful and selfless prayer of intercession, for it is close to the heart of God that none should perish but that all should come to repentance.
We are encouraged by your heart to pray for this bishop and for those in his life, because Scripture reminds us that a title or position in the church does not guarantee salvation. Salvation comes only through personal faith in Jesus Christ. As it is written, there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. Jesus Himself said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. Even those who oversee the church must be born again and meet the qualifications of godly character and faith found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.
We love that you prayed in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. If anyone confesses with their mouth that Jesus is Lord and believes in their heart that God raised him from the dead, they will be saved Romans 10:9. For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life John 3:16.
We also take comfort that God desires all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth 1 Timothy 2:4 and that He is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance 2 Peter 3:9. Therefore we can pray with confidence for this bishop and his circle.
We pray together now.
Heavenly Father, we come before Your throne of grace in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. We lift up this bishop to You. If he has not yet truly been born again, we ask that You draw him to Yourself, open his eyes to the truth of the Gospel, grant him repentance and faith in Jesus Christ alone for his salvation. If he does know You, we pray You would strengthen him, keep him faithful to Your Word, and make him an example of godliness to the flock. We also lift up every person in his life, his family, friends, colleagues, and congregation. Lord, save each one who is in need of salvation. Draw them by Your Holy Spirit, soften their hearts, and lead them to place their trust in Jesus. We pray that their lives would bear fruit in keeping with repentance and bring glory to Your name. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior. Amen.
We encourage you to continue to pray fervently for them, for the effective, earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power James 5:16. Continue to intercede and, as the Lord gives opportunity, speak the Gospel to them with love and truth.
