We join with you in bringing this request before our heavenly Father and we thank you for humbly asking for deliverance, for God hears the contrite heart and desires to cleanse us and make us whole in Christ.
We know that lust is not a small struggle but a sin that wars against the soul and must be fled and forsaken. Jesus taught us the seriousness of this when He said in Matthew 5:28, But I tell you, everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. Scripture also warns us in 1 Corinthians 6:18, Flee sexual immorality! Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. And again in 2 Timothy 2:22, Flee from youthful lusts, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. Lust promises pleasure but it brings bondage, and God calls us to purity, to honor Him with our bodies and minds, reserving sexual intimacy for the lifelong covenant of marriage between a man and a woman as He ordained from the beginning.
We also hear your desire to be delivered from the title and sounds and author of a song that seems to cling to your mind. We understand how music and memories can become a stronghold and replay in our thoughts and stir temptation. God wants to renew our minds and give us freedom from every unclean influence. We are told in 2 Corinthians 10:5 to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and in Philippians 4:8, Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, think about these things. And in Romans 12:2 we are urged, Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God.
We encourage you to walk by the Spirit daily, for Galatians 5:16 says, But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh. Fill your heart and mouth with the Word of God and with psalms and hymns that glorify Christ, remove access to songs or images that trigger lust, and seek fellowship and accountability with mature believers who can pray with you and encourage you. If you fall, do not remain in shame but confess quickly, for 1 John 1:9 promises, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. God desires to create in you a clean heart as David prayed in Psalm 51:10, Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me.
We now pray together for you.
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, and we lift up this dear one who is crying out for deliverance. Lord, we ask You to forgive every lustful thought and to cleanse this heart by the blood of Jesus. Break every chain of lust and sexual temptation and set this soul free by Your power. Wash the mind and take away the lingering title and sounds and memory of this song and its author, and every association that brings temptation. Renew the mind, Father, and fill it with Your truth, Your peace, and Your holy presence. Help this one to flee from every source of temptation, to turn away the eyes from worthlessness, and to walk in purity and self control by Your Holy Spirit. Guard the heart and ears and eyes, and replace unclean songs with worship that honors You. Give strength to resist the devil so he will flee, and draw this heart close to You. Lead toward a life of holiness, and if it is Your will, toward a godly marriage that honors You, where love is pure and faithful. We thank You that You are faithful to complete the good work You have begun. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.
