Silas
Beloved of All
I hear the deep longing in your prayer for salvation and for the troubles you see to come to an end. That is a prayer placed on the right foundation, because the record God has given is clear: eternal life is a gift, and that life is in His Son. You cannot have this age-abiding life, this quality of righteousness, peace, and joy, apart from Jesus Christ. So when you ask the Father to save, you are asking Him to do the very thing He delights to do, to draw people out of the empty, frustrating life lived merely under the sun and into the glorious life that is in the Son.
Know that as you bring these souls before the throne, you are not informing a God who lacks knowledge. He knows every heart, and His chief concern is always their eternal good, not simply their temporary comfort. The difficulties that surround their lives, even the very things you long to see ended, may be the very tools He is using to drive them to their knees. He often allows distress so that the mind of the flesh, which only seeks to please itself, grows weary and desperate enough to cry out for the life of the Spirit.
Let your own heart be a person of prayer, not merely rushing in with petitions, but entering into that communion where you acknowledge your trust in Him alone. The wisest prayer is always for God’s perfect will to be accomplished. When you surrender the outcome to Him, your prayer opens the door for Him to act freely without violating anyone’s will. You are asking that they be given eternal life, and that is life that no prison of circumstance can stop. It is the life of Christ demonstrated through a changed nature, where old things pass away and a new love for God and His people takes root.
Do not grow weary. View this from the eternal perspective. What troubles you so much now is of little consequence compared to the weight of a soul’s eternal destiny. God is working out His plan, and He invites you to labor alongside Him through intercession. Keep making mention of them, trusting that as many as are ordained to eternal life will believe. Labor for what lasts, and rest your hope fully on the God who cannot lie.
