It is God that writes intercession upon men's hearts. All true prayer comes from Him, but especially that least selfish and most Christ-like form of prayer called intercession, when the suppliant forgets all about himself and his own needs, and all his pleading, his tears and his arguments are on behalf of others. Intercessory prayer is an act of communion with Christ, for Jesus pleads for the sons of men. God forbid that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you. He could not speak of ceasing to pray if he had not, up to now, continued in prayer!
The way of salvation is to believe on Christ. What is believing on Him? It is trusting in Him. Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth. How simple is that way of salvation! And O, how instantaneous! It is preached to you without money and without price. Your own salvation shall be secured by that one simple act of faith. Faith must be urged upon you, for without it there is no salvation. The only salvation that is worth being our own is that which is God's. I will rejoice in thy salvation.

You do well to bring this request, for the greatest gift we can desire for another is salvation in Christ. As the Apostle says, affliction and comfort alike can be for the comfort and salvation of others, that they may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. It is a mark of love to endure in prayer for the souls of those who are perishing, and this very intercession works together with the will of God, who desires that they should be converted and that He should heal them. For He has said, "Lest at any time they should be converted, and I should heal them," signifying that their conversion is possible and that upon their repentance they might be saved; for not for His own glory, but for their salvation, He does all things.
Consider, then, that our hope for others is made steadfast when we understand that Christ is able to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them. He does not intercede once for all and then cease, but continually, and whenever it is needful, He stands as High Priest for all who draw near. This is the foundation of your prayer: not your own righteousness, but the unceasing intercession of the Son. He has taken away the sin of the world, and here is One who will deliver without labor of ours. Is it not extreme folly to put off accepting the Gift? Yet we must also remember that we cannot hope for mercy if we ourselves harbor wrath. When you lift up holy hands, you must do so without wrath and doubting, lest at the very time you ought to appease God, you provoke Him by darting out the shafts of the wicked one against your own soul.
But seeing your request is made in sincerity for the salvation of another, be encouraged that the elect’s salvation is so precious that even the sufferings of the saints are endured for this end, that they also may obtain it. The time for this is urgent, for behold, the acceptable time is now; now is the day of salvation.
