The Old Man’s Sermon
A lifetime of learning and declaring God’s works means you can trust Him to sustain you to the end.
We join with you in bringing this long list of people before the throne of grace and we thank you for your heart to intercede for so many. Though many names have been redacted for privacy, we know the Lord knows each one by name and sees each need, and we lift them together before Him in Jesus name.

We pray first for healing for each individual, family, and child you have mentioned, for the older ones and the young ones, for those needing physical healing and those needing healing of heart and mind. We ask the Lord to lay His hand upon them according to His perfect will and mercy. We are reminded of His promise when He says, But I will restore health to you and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh, Jeremiah 30:17, and He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds, Psalm 147:3. We also remember, But he was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought our peace was on him and by his wounds we are healed, Isaiah 53:5. We pray that if it be His will, He would bring restoration, comfort, and strength, and that each one would feel His nearness and know that He is the Great Physician who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask.

We also join you in praying for salvation for each of these dear ones and for the people in their lives. This is the greatest need of all, and we rejoice that you closed your request in the name of Jesus Christ, for there is power in that name alone. We are told, that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved, Romans 10:9, and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. We pray that every person on this list who does not yet know Jesus as Lord and Savior would hear the gospel, that their hearts would be softened, that they would repent and believe, and that those who already know Him would be drawn closer to Him. We cling to the truth that The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance, 2 Peter 3:9.

So we pray together now. Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We lift up every person mentioned in this request, each man, woman, and child, each family and individual known to You. Lord, touch those who need healing in body, mind, and spirit, grant them Your peace that surpasses understanding, and let Your will be done in their lives. We ask that You would save those among them who are not yet saved, and save their loved ones as well, that none would be lost but all would come to know Your Son. Draw each one to Yourself, forgive their sins, and fill them with Your Holy Spirit. Strengthen their faith, provide for their needs, and let them know how deeply they are loved by You. We pray all of this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and our healer, amen.

We were so moved by your prayer and the way you carried so many people before the Lord. The list is long and some of the names and details are hard to follow, but your heart comes through clearly, you want healing where there is hurt and you want everyone to know Jesus and be saved, along with the people in their lives.

It can feel heavy to hold that many needs at once. We want to encourage you that God knows each person you named by name, even when the words feel jumbled to us. He sees the whole picture when we can only see fragments, and He hears a simple, honest prayer for mercy.

One thing that has helped others who carry a big prayer list is to keep it simple day by day. You might keep your full list in one place and each day lift up just a few names that are most on your heart that morning, asking God in your own words for healing and for Him to draw them to Himself. Over time you will have prayed for them all, without feeling you have to carry the whole weight at once.

We are joining you in this.

Father, in Jesus' name we thank You for the compassion You have put in our friend's heart. You know every person mentioned here and every need for healing and salvation. We ask You to bring Your comfort and healing according to Your will, and to draw each one to Jesus so they may know Your forgiveness and life. Give our friend peace and strength as they continue to pray. Amen.

It is a good and holy thing that you have brought this great multitude of souls before the throne of grace, and we count it an honor to agonize with you in prayer to God for them.

Remember that intercessory prayer is the sweetest prayer God ever hears, for the prayer of Christ is of this character, when He cried, Father, keep them, keep them from the evil. And remember again that intercessory prayer is exceedingly prevalent. What wonders it has wrought. It has stayed plagues and it has raised the dead, and as to how many souls it has instrumentally saved, eternity alone shall reveal. There is nothing which intercessory prayer cannot do when it is offered in faith through Jesus Christ. Prayer is the most essential thing in turning sinners from the error of their ways, and we are permitted to open our mouth before the Lord for the sick and for the tried, for the troubled and for the downcast, with the assurance that whatever we shall ask in prayer, believing, we shall receive.

We have heard your burden for healing for the aged and the young, for the child with the affliction of the neck, for the teacher, for the nurse, for the many men and women and little ones whose names and sorrows you have laid out in broken words, and for all those connected to them. We will join you in entreating the Lord for them. We ask not only for the healing of the body, though we do ask for that in mercy, but far more for the healing of the soul. And we pray that if any among them are yet outside of Christ, they may be saved through faith in Jesus Christ alone, for there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. We do not ask God to bless any way of living that is contrary to His holy Word, for marriage is His good gift as the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and all else falls short of His design, but we do ask Him in love to call every soul to repentance and to new life in Christ, that they may be washed, forgiven and made whole.

Be encouraged that even before you prayed, the Lord Jesus has prayed for His people. He says, I have prayed for you. His prayer is prevalent and prevenient, and He ever lives to make intercession for us. And like Daniel, who forgot himself and remembered his people and wrestled mightily for them, so we will wrestle for these dear ones.

Let us pray together in that handy prayer which suits every case and every place, Lord, help me, and Lord, help them.

O God of Peace, look in mercy upon every person named in this supplication and upon every family and friend bound to them. Lay Thy hand upon the sick for healing according to Thy will, and lay Thy pierced hand upon the lost for salvation. Grant them repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. Cause Thy face to shine upon them, revive them where they are dull and weak, comfort them where they are tried, and keep them from the evil. Grant that those who are Thine may feel Thy chastening as love, knowing that Thy heaviest blows are as much tokens of affection as Thy sweetest caresses, and grant that those who are not yet Thine may hear Thy voice today and live. We ask all this not for our worthiness, but for the sake of Jesus Christ our only Saviour and Advocate, Amen.

We thank you for bringing these many needs before the Lord and for your desire to see people healed and saved. We join you in prayer for each person and situation you have mentioned, even where the details are unclear, for God knows each one by name and sees every need.

We pray first for salvation, because Scripture teaches that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone and that He is able to save to the uttermost those who come to God by Him, since He ever lives to make intercession for them. We ask that God in His mercy would draw to Himself all those you have lifted up who do not yet know Him, and also the people in their lives, that they would hear the gospel, repent, and put their faith in Christ. Today is the day of salvation, and we pray that none would delay in turning to Him.

We also pray for healing for those who are sick, injured, or suffering, including the children, the teenager, the mother, and others you named who need physical restoration. We ask the Lord to show His compassion and to grant healing according to His perfect will, and to give comfort, strength, and patient endurance to those who suffer, knowing that God works through both affliction and comfort for our good.

We encourage you to continue in careful hearing of the Word and in prayer, not only listening but also doing what God commands and holding fast to the truth. Salvation is not by hearing alone, but by a life of faith, perseverance, and turning from all that is contrary to God's design. God created marriage as a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and calls us to purity in all our relationships, and true healing and salvation are found as we walk in His ways.

We will continue to pray that God would be merciful, that He would bring many to salvation through Christ alone, and that He would grant healing and hope to those who are hurting. May the Lord give you steadfast hope as you continue to intercede for others.

In Jesus Christ's name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
