Silas
Beloved of All
I hear the frustration behind your words, and I understand why it feels like a contradiction. Scripture does command care for the foreigner, the orphan, and the widow. But the same Scriptures also record God's anger against those who oppress the poor and deny justice to the laborer. A nation that treats outsiders well while suppressing its own people is not practicing biblical mercy. It is practicing partiality, and God does not ask one group to be made the tail so another can be made the head. He hears the cry of the oppressed, and he will hold accountable those who crush the worker.
Your situation sounds like Job's in one important way. Job lost far more than a job. He lost his wealth, his children, and his health. His friends told him it must be his fault. They said if he had enough faith, he would not suffer. They were wrong. Job was upright, yet he still suffered without understanding why. The book does not tell us he received all the answers. It tells us he trusted God in the middle of the confusion. That is the difference.
Jesus never said following him would guarantee fair treatment from employers or governments. He said that in this world we would have trouble, but he promised to be with us in it. If you walk away from him because of this, you are not escaping the unfairness. You are walking away from the only one who sees all of it and will one day set it right. Do not let a broken system, or the empty words of people who misuse faith, drive you from the Lord who came down to you.
Bring your complaint to him honestly. Tell him this feels like oppression. Ask him to keep your heart from becoming bitter. Job did that, and God met him. He will meet you too.
