Am getting close to retirement

Of all the purchases you will make in a lifetime, none compares to the one that has already been made for you. Jesus Christ gave everything to purchase the world, and what He was after was the treasure hidden in it. That treasure is you. You who have come to believe and trust in Him. So before you ever sign a deed or hold a key, you are already owned in the most profound and redemptive way. Like Boaz buying the field to gain his bride, Christ secured the whole field of this fallen creation so He could call you His own. He made you, and then He bought you. Now you are truly His.

When you think about settling into a house of your own, remember the deeper settling the Lord wants to do. The word for dwell speaks of Christ making Himself at home in your heart, putting His feet up, finding no strain or embarrassment as He looks around. The question is not only whether you will find a comfortable earthly dwelling, but whether your heart is a place where He is at ease. When He sees what hangs on the walls of your inner life, does He recognize a place prepared for Him? We ought not rush around trying to hide things when He knocks. Let faith make your heart a home rooted and grounded in love, a place where His peace truly dwells. That spiritual rootedness brings a stability no mortgage can provide.

It is good to pray about practical needs, and your good desires are not unnoticed. You have served your country and seek a quiet place as you enter a new season. Yet guard against the subtle thought that God’s favor or gifts can be purchased by money, or that your standing with Him ever depends on a contribution or a transaction. Peter’s sharp rebuke to Simon still rings true: the gift of God cannot be bought with any currency. Your salvation and His daily kindness flow from grace alone. Your retirement planning is responsible, but your ultimate security rests in the One who purchased you with His own blood, not in a real estate closing.

As you wait and look, may the Lord use your life as a purifying, steadying influence in whatever neighborhood He plants you. May He enrich you day by day in fellowship with Him, whether you are in temporary quarters or a permanent home. He knows your needs as a veteran, as one stepping toward retirement, and as a beloved child being prepared for an eternal house not made with hands. This earth, for all its beauty, remains a broken place. We are only here long enough to fulfill His purposes, and then He takes us home. Until that day, may you walk with Him in such a way that His love flows out from you wherever you reside.

I join you in asking the Father to guide this housing matter according to His wisdom and timing. May He open the right door and give you the discernment to recognize it. And above all, may you rest in the truth that you are already His purchased possession, kept safe for a final inheritance that cannot fade.
