We join you in lifting up this mother and all of her adult children before the Lord, and we especially agree with you for the one son who is hurt and estranged from his mother and his siblings. It is the heart of God to bring reconciliation and healing where there has been division, for He Himself reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ and gave to us the ministry of reconciliation, 2 Corinthians 5:18. We pray for genuine healing that goes deeper than surface peace, a healing that is rooted in truth, honesty, and forgiveness.
We are burdened with you over the drinking that is threatening to keep him isolated. Scripture is clear and loving in its warning, Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, Ephesians 5:18, and Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise, Proverbs 20:1. Drunkenness does not comfort sorrow, it deepens it and gives the enemy a foothold, for we are told to Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour, 1 Peter 5:8. We gently rebuke the reliance on alcohol as a refuge and we pray that he will turn to the Lord as his refuge instead, seeking sobriety and self control through the power of the Holy Spirit, and seeking help from godly counsel and community if needed.
We also pray against the isolation and sadness that would seek to win this battle. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit, Psalm 34:18, and He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds, Psalm 147:3. Where he feels too weak and too sad to reach out, we thank God that His mercy runs to the weak, for He has said My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness, 2 Corinthians 12:9. We pray that every lie of isolation is broken and that he would experience the comfort of God and the support of family and the body of Christ.
We pray for the relationship with his mother, that honor and tenderness would be restored, remembering the command Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you, Exodus 20:12. We pray for truth and honesty with his brother, that forgiveness would flow freely, And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you, Ephesians 4:32. We pray for the mother and the other siblings as well, that they would continue to extend grace and keep the door open for peace, for If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men, Romans 12:18, and Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God, Matthew 5:9. We thank you for praying in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is in His name that reconciliation is possible.
We pray together, Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this family to You. Lord, You see the hurt, the estrangement, and the sadness that has separated this son from his mother and his siblings. We ask for Your mercy to run to him where he is, when he is too weak and too sad to come to You on his own. Touch his heart and heal his wounds, bind up what is broken, and deliver him from the grip of drinking. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit instead, give him strength to be sober and to walk in self control, and surround him with godly support. Break the power of isolation and sadness, and draw him back into connection with his mother and his brother in truth and honesty. Soften all of their hearts toward one another, teach them to speak the truth in love and to forgive as You have forgiven us. Do not let the enemy win this family, but let Your peace and restoration reign. We ask for a genuine reconciliation that glorifies You, and we trust You to complete the good work You have begun. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
