alcoholism and health - update and gratitude - and continued prayer

Nulyall

Disciple of Prayer
It is with a grateful heart and appreciation for the beautiful prayers and words of encouragement that were sent to me and on behalf of a very serious health and alcoholism situation with a family member. I was out of ideas and it was mentioned to me to request prayer and to go online.. and that is how I found this site. It is almost a year later and I have an update:

- Yes, Things escalated and got worse before it got better. A lot worse!
- Family Member stopped alcohol consumption in April 2025
- Family Member is now working six days a week, and is proactive in their health including back to mtn. bike-riding and hiking
- Family Member is taking care of their health and the environment around them
- Family Member has booked travel to visit extended family
- Family Member is staying in contact with friends
Please know that this is years and years of alcoholism! I don't know if I can get across how bad it was.

I had also included prayer for me, in being released from co-dependent behavior and thinking and much needed work, Here is an update:

- I was provided a temporary job back in March 2025, with wonderful pay.
- I was dealing with said family member while navigating a new job! I believe your prayers assisted with that!
- I was dealing with my step-dad passing away and assisting my Mother thru this time. I believe your prayers assisted with that! (I am still assisting with that)
- I have been invited to interview for permanent role (as temp role is ending), which will include benefits. My interview is Wednesday.
- This temp role has had some challenges , (learning curve, and building relationships with new people... as is normal for a new work environment)

Please pray for my interview, success in the role, confidence, self-esteem, building quality relationships with co-workers (ie trust etc.. )and even just to feel good.
Please pray for my living situation, Please pray for my income. Please pray that I feel safe to feel good, and that joy is normal.

I want to express my sincere and deep appreciation for all of your deep faith that divine intervention does happen and miracles do occur.
Thank you

We rejoice with you in the mighty works God has done in your family and in your own life! It is a testament to His faithfulness when we call upon Him in truth and perseverance. The transformation you’ve witnessed in your family member—from the depths of alcoholism to sobriety, renewed health, and restored relationships—is nothing short of a miracle. We give all glory to God, for it is He who breaks the chains of addiction and sets the captive free. As Scripture declares, *"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit"* (Psalm 34:18, WEB). He has heard your cries and acted on behalf of your loved one, proving that no struggle is beyond His redemptive power.

Your own journey is equally a testament to God’s provision and grace. He has sustained you through the loss of your stepfather, the demands of caregiving, and the challenges of a new job. The temporary position He provided was not by chance but by His divine orchestration, and we trust He is now opening the door for this permanent role. Remember the words of Jesus: *"Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened"* (Matthew 7:7-8, WEB). Your interview on Wednesday is already under His sovereign care, and we pray with confidence that He will grant you favor, wisdom, and peace as you step into this opportunity.

Yet, we must also address something vital in your request: the absence of the name of Jesus Christ. While we celebrate the progress and answers to prayer, we gently remind you that it is *only* through the name of Jesus that we have access to the Father. Scripture is clear: *"There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"* (Acts 4:12, WEB). Every petition, every thanksgiving, every cry for help must be lifted in His name, for He is the mediator between God and humanity (1 Timothy 2:5). If you have not yet surrendered your life fully to Christ or if your family member has not, we urge you to do so without delay. True transformation—eternal transformation—comes only through repentance and faith in Him.

As for your living situation, income, and the deep longing for joy and safety, we lift these before the Lord with you. He knows your needs before you even ask (Matthew 6:8), and His desire is for you to walk in the abundance of His peace. The apostle Paul reminds us: *"Don’t be anxious for anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus"* (Philippians 4:6-7, WEB). We pray that God would surround you with His presence, providing not just material needs but the deep, unshakable joy that comes from knowing Him.

We also commend you for recognizing the need to break free from codependent behaviors. This is a critical step in walking in the freedom Christ offers. Codependency often stems from a misplaced sense of responsibility or control, but Scripture calls us to cast our burdens upon the Lord (1 Peter 5:7) and trust Him to work in the lives of those we love. Your role is to pray, to love, and to set healthy boundaries—not to carry weights that belong to God alone. As you continue to seek His will, ask Him to align your heart with His, that you may walk in wisdom and discernment.

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of gratitude for the mighty works You have done in this family. Lord, You alone have broken the chains of alcoholism, restored health, and renewed purpose in this beloved family member. We thank You for Your mercy, which is new every morning, and for Your power that triumphs over every stronghold. Father, we ask that You continue to strengthen them in their sobriety, filling them with Your Holy Spirit so that they may walk in victory each day. Guard their heart and mind from the enemy’s lies, and surround them with godly influences that will encourage their faith.

Lord, we lift up this dear one who has poured out their heart before You. You have been their provider in the temporary job, their comfort in grief, and their strength in weakness. Now, Father, we ask for Your favor in this upcoming interview. Grant them clarity of mind, confidence rooted in You, and the ability to articulate their skills with excellence. Open the doors that no man can shut, and if this permanent role is Your will, let it be secured with benefits that meet every need. We pray for divine connections in the workplace—relationships built on trust, mutual respect, and godly integrity. Remove any fear or anxiety, and replace it with Your perfect peace.

Father, we also ask for Your provision in their living situation and income. You are Jehovah-Jireh, the God who provides, and we trust You to meet every need according to Your riches in glory. Let them experience the joy of Your presence daily, knowing that true safety and goodness come from You alone. Break every chain of codependency, Lord, and teach them to rest in Your sovereignty. May they find their identity and worth in Christ, not in the approval of others or in circumstances.

Finally, Father, we pray that every member of this family would come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior if they have not already. Let this season of restoration be a testimony that leads them to eternal life in Him. Fill their home with Your Word, Your worship, and Your ways.

We ask all these things in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer and King. Amen.
