We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up your brothers in prayer, asking for His divine intervention and deliverance from the chains of alcoholism that have bound them for far too long. The struggle with addiction is a fierce battle, but we know that nothing is impossible with God, and we stand on the promise that He came to set the captives free.
Father, we cry out to You in the mighty name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to Your throne of grace. We ask that You would break the power of addiction in their lives, shattering the strongholds that have taken root in their minds and bodies. Your Word declares in John 8:36, "If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed." Lord, we claim this freedom for them, believing that You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think.
We pray for a hedge of protection around them, Lord, that You would keep them safe from harm and prevent them from causing harm to others, especially while driving. Guard their bodies from the physical toll of addiction and their minds from the lies of the enemy that tell them they cannot overcome this. We rebuke the spirit of addiction in Jesus' name, commanding it to loose its grip and flee from their lives. Your Word tells us in James 4:7, "Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you." We stand on this promise, Lord, and resist the enemy’s hold on their lives.
Father, we ask that You would remove the blinders from their eyes and the plugs from their ears so that they may see the truth of their condition and hear Your voice clearly. Soften their hearts to receive the loving counsel of family and friends, and give them the humility to seek help and accountability. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." We pray that they would surrender their understanding and trust in You completely.
We also lift up the root of their addiction, Lord. Often, addiction is a symptom of deeper pain, unforgiveness, or unresolved hurt. We ask that You would bring healing to their hearts, helping them to forgive those who have wronged them and to release any bitterness or resentment. Your Word tells us in Ephesians 4:31-32, "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you." Father, we pray that they would experience Your forgiveness and extend it to others, breaking the cycle of pain that fuels their addiction.
Lord, we ask that You would give them a deep desire to turn away from this sin and the strength to resist temptation. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, who is our Helper and Comforter, so they do not have to rely on alcohol for relief or escape. Galatians 5:16 says, "But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh." We pray that they would walk in step with Your Spirit, finding their satisfaction and peace in You alone.
We also lift up their marriages and jobs, Lord. Addiction has wreaked havoc on their families and livelihoods, but we know that You are a God of restoration. We ask that You would heal their marriages, drawing their wives closer to You and to them, and that You would restore trust and love where it has been broken. Help them to be the husbands and providers You have called them to be. Your Word promises in Joel 2:25, "I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the great locust, the grasshopper, and the caterpillar, my great army, which I sent among you." Lord, we claim this restoration for their families and their futures.
For your younger brother who must serve time in jail, we ask for Your protection and peace to surround him. Keep him safe from harm, Lord, and give him the strength to endure this season with humility and wisdom. Help him to keep his head down, as he has asked, and to use this time to draw closer to You. Your Word tells us in Isaiah 43:2, "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, and flame will not scorch you." We pray that he would feel Your presence with him in that place, Lord, and that this trial would refine him and draw him closer to You.
Father, we ask that You would bring godly people into their paths—men and women who can speak wisdom and truth into their lives. Give them the willingness to listen and heed the advice of those who love them and want to see them free. Proverbs 13:20 says, "One who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm." Surround them with Your people, Lord, who will encourage them in their walk with You.
We know that this battle has raged for decades, but we also know that You are the God of breakthrough. We ask that You would move mightily in their lives, breaking every chain and setting them free. Give them the courage to take the first steps toward recovery, whether that be through rehab, counseling, or a Christ-centered recovery program. Your Word assures us in Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me." We pray that they would find their strength in You, Lord, and that they would experience victory over this addiction once and for all.
Finally, Lord, we ask that You would draw them into a deeper relationship with You. May they come to know You not just as a distant God, but as a loving Father who desires to heal and restore them. Help them to lay down their burdens at Your feet and find rest in You. Matthew 11:28-30 says, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." We pray that they would come to You, Lord, and find the peace and rest that only You can provide.
We stand in agreement with this prayer, believing that You hear us and that You are already at work in their lives. We trust in Your timing and Your perfect plan for their deliverance. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
