Alcoholic daughter

We come before the Lord with heavy yet hopeful hearts, lifting up this precious daughter who is bound by the chains of alcohol. The Word of God tells us in **1 Corinthians 6:19-20**, *"Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."* This struggle is not just against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces that seek to destroy what God has created for His glory.

The enemy has deceived many into believing that alcohol—or any substance—can bring comfort, escape, or joy, but **Proverbs 20:1** warns us, *"Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise."* True peace and fulfillment are found only in Christ, who said in **John 10:10**, *"The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly."* This daughter was made for *abundant life*, not bondage.

Yet we also know that **1 John 1:9** promises, *"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."* There is no sin too great, no addiction too strong, that God cannot break through the power of Jesus’ name. The same Spirit who raised Christ from the dead can breathe new life into her (Romans 8:11). But this requires *repentance*—a turning away from sin and toward God. Without this, prayer alone may bring temporary relief, but not lasting freedom.

To the one praying for her: We urge you to speak truth in love. Do not enable her sin by ignoring it or making excuses, but also do not condemn her—**Jude 1:22-23** says, *"Have mercy on some, who are in doubt; save some, snatching them out of the fire!"* Pray *with* her if possible, share the Gospel boldly, and remind her that God’s love is greater than her shame. If she is a believer, call her to walk in obedience. If she is not yet saved, plead with her to surrender her life to Christ, for apart from Him, there is no true victory (John 15:5).

We also exhort you to examine your own heart. Are you trusting in your prayers *more* than in God’s sovereignty? **Philippians 4:6-7** says, *"In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus."* Anxiety cannot coexist with trust. Rest in the fact that God hears you, and His timing is perfect.

Now, let us pray:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, interceding for this daughter who is enslaved to alcohol. Lord, You see her pain, her brokenness, and the lies she has believed. We ask that You *break the power of addiction* in her life—by Your Spirit, convict her of sin, draw her to repentance, and fill her with a hunger for righteousness that outweighs her craving for drink.

If she does not know You, Lord, *save her soul first*. Open her eyes to see that Jesus is the only Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6). Let her taste and see that *You* are good (Psalm 34:8), not the false comfort of alcohol. If she is a believer who has strayed, Father, discipline her as Your child (Hebrews 12:6), and restore her to fellowship with You.

We rebuke the spirit of addiction in Jesus’ name. Satan, you have no authority here—this daughter belongs to God! We command every stronghold of deception, shame, and bondage to be *broken* by the blood of Christ. Fill her with Your Holy Spirit, Lord, and surround her with godly community who will speak truth, offer accountability, and walk with her toward freedom.

Give wisdom to those who love her—show them how to help without enabling, how to love without condoning sin. Let their words and actions point her to *You*, not to human solutions. And Father, we ask for *miraculous* intervention. You parted the Red Sea, raised Lazarus from the dead, and set captives free—do it again, Lord! Let this be a testimony of Your power to save and deliver.

We trust You, even when we don’t see the answer yet. Strengthen our faith, and let Your will be done in her life—for Your glory. In the mighty, saving name of **Jesus Christ**, we pray. Amen.

*To the one who submitted this request:* We encourage you to share the Gospel with your daughter if she does not know Christ. Salvation is the first step to true freedom. If she is a believer, remind her of **Galatians 5:1**: *"Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and don’t be entangled again with a yoke of bondage."* Freedom is possible, but it requires surrender. Keep praying, keep loving, and keep pointing her to Jesus—the only One who can break every chain.

We're here with you, friend, lifting up your daughter to the Lord. We know the struggle feels overwhelming, but remember, with God, nothing is impossible (Luke 1:37). Let's cling to that promise as we pray.

We're reminded of the story of the woman caught in adultery (John 8:1-11). Jesus, seeing her pain and the condemnation around her, said, "Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more." He offered her grace, but also a path to freedom. Let's ask the Lord to meet your daughter in that same way - with grace, love, and a call to turn away from alcohol.

Let's also pray for wisdom for you, dear one. As you walk alongside her, may you have the wisdom to know when to offer a helping hand and when to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). May your words and actions point her to Jesus, not enable her sin.

Let's pray:

Dear Lord, we come to You today, burdened but hopeful. We lift up this daughter who is bound by alcohol. Lord, we ask that You would meet her where she is, with grace and love. Convict her of her sin, but also offer her Your unending mercy. Draw her to repentance, and fill her with a hunger for righteousness that outweighs her craving for drink.

If she doesn't know You, Lord, save her soul. Open her eyes to see that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Let her taste and see that You are good. If she's a believer who has strayed, Lord, discipline her as Your child, and restore her to fellowship with You.

We rebuke the spirit of addiction in Jesus' name. Satan, you have no authority here - this daughter belongs to God! We command every stronghold of deception, shame, and bondage to be broken by the blood of Christ. Fill her with Your Holy Spirit, Lord, and surround her with godly community who will speak truth, offer accountability, and walk with her toward freedom.

Give wisdom to those who love her, Lord. Show them how to help without enabling, how to love without condoning sin. Let their words and actions point her to You. And Lord, we ask for miraculous intervention. You've parted seas and raised the dead - do it again, Lord! Let this be a testimony of Your power to save and deliver.

We trust You, even when we don't see the answer yet. Strengthen our faith, and let Your will be done in her life - for Your glory. In Jesus' mighty, saving name, we pray. Amen.
