There is power in prayer (James 5:16)!

Again, and again, God’s word teaches us to pray and to keep on praying. There is a reason why - prayer works!

As many of you know, I lost my job on June 16, 2024. I had moved back to Alaska, hoping that God would move in such a way as to reconcile my family.

I’ve been working in the gig economy over the last year off and on. After losing my job, it became more like full-time. I became really good at it and I could make a decent living doing it at least to take care of all my needs.

It’s like Satan saw me doing it and stepped in… I had three blowouts in about two months. And then over the last two or three weeks, I noticed other issues starting to happen.

There was a bad sound in the wheel area in the front of the vehicle. I kept hoping I would wake up one day and it would be gone like something temporary had changed. It never did in fact, it just kept getting worse.

Last Thursday, it was getting to the point that I thought I may not be able to work anymore using my vehicle in my heart, honestly, I was very nervous as I contemplated my options.

I prayed fervently to God and ask him for help. I said God you know my situation. I am up here in Alaska pretty much by myself. I need your help. Would you please allow something to happen quickly because I need your help badly.

I had contacted one company and they wanted $119 just to diagnose it. I had an appointment for this coming Wednesday.

I contacted another mechanic company and they wanted $144 to diagnose it.

I know from past experience, that having vehicles fixed in Alaska is at least a $1500 proposition. It just is! I feared that the repairs on my car could easily surprise that.

How am I supposed to pay those large sums to pay for repairs when I need my car to make money

I finally concluded and prayed to God, God if you want me to leave Alaska, please show me and I will leave. Please open the door and I will go.

On Friday morning, I worked and the sounds were getting worse and worse. I had talked to AI and AI warned about the possibility of something snapping and it created more fear.

Again, I prayed about it. I went home and I took a nap and around 12:30 PM, I received a phone call from a man that I never talk to nor met in my life. He wanted to help me.

He agreed to come over and look at the vehicle. I told him what I thought the problem was. He willingly came over and looked at the vehicle, drove it, and then took the wheel off.

The problem was actually several things: wheel bearings, struts and a few other things. He told me he could replace the wheel bearings for $200 or $100 each.

He also said it needed new brakes. He said he would do the wheel bearings and the brakes for $220.

So, he took the van. I thought he would be done in two or three hours. He kept the van Friday night and all day Saturday. In fact, there was part of me that thought at one time maybe he stole my van. He did not.

He contacted me Friday night and told me he had had a problem and he would start work in the morning and I could probably have the van by noon on Saturday.

I’m Saturday, he contacted me and told me that there was a problem and he could not go further but he’s gonna try one more thing. He was missing some type of important tool that he needed.

And my heart I was very nervous because I had this guy willing to help me and now he can’t resolve this one issue. So I came on this thread and left a prayer request and then I also prayed myself and asked a few others to pray.

Long story, short, on Saturday night at about 7 PM. He brought me my van he had done the work he promised to do however, he told me there were a few other things that needed to be done. He said the noise was not completely gone because there were some other things that need to be done However it was safe to drive.

I went to work that night and made about $70. I went out this morning and worked and made $215 thank God!

I believe this was a direct answer to my prayer, God help me!!

Not only did I get those two areas repaired: wheel bearings and brakes, but he has promised to go back in and work on the other items as I get the money to pay him and buy the parts.

So, I have agreed to work to get the money necessary to do those things. He also needed the money. It’s almost like God connected the two events he needed money. I need my car fixed badly, and God made the connection.

Thank you, God, for answering my prayers and the prayers of others:

Thank you, God for fixing my van so I can use it to work in. Thank you, God for introducing me to a man who has the mechanical skills that can really help me now and into the future.

Thank you, God for prayer.

We rejoice with you in this powerful testimony of God’s faithfulness and provision! Your story is a vivid reminder that our Heavenly Father hears the cries of His children and moves in ways that surpass our understanding. The Scripture declares in James 5:16, *"The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective."* You have witnessed this truth firsthand, and we praise God for His timely intervention in your life.

Your journey through this trial reflects the heart of a believer who seeks God earnestly, even in moments of deep uncertainty. When you cried out to Him, asking for help and surrendering your plans—even your location—into His hands, He responded with a divine connection. This mechanic, a stranger to you, became an instrument of God’s grace, not only repairing your vehicle at a fraction of the expected cost but also committing to future work as you are able. This is no coincidence; it is the hand of God orchestrating provision and relationship for His glory.

We also take note of how you turned to prayer not just once, but repeatedly, demonstrating persistence and faith. Jesus taught His disciples in Luke 18:1 *"that they must always pray and not give up."* Your story encourages us all to keep bringing our needs before the Lord, trusting that He is working even when we cannot see the outcome.

Yet, as we celebrate this answered prayer, we must also address the spiritual warfare at play in your situation. You mentioned how it felt as though Satan himself was attacking your ability to work and provide for yourself. This is not uncommon for believers who are walking in faith. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), but Jesus came to give life abundantly. The blowouts, the mechanical failures, and the fear that arose were not just bad luck—they were attacks meant to discourage and derail you. But God turned what the enemy meant for harm into a testimony of His goodness!

We also notice that your prayer did not explicitly invoke the name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we are saved and through whom we have access to the Father (John 14:6, Acts 4:12). While God in His mercy heard your cry, it is vital to remember that our prayers are most powerful when we come boldly before the throne of grace in the name of Jesus. He is our Mediator (1 Timothy 2:5), and it is through Him that we receive the Father’s ear and His mighty intervention. If you have not already, we urge you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Salvation comes through faith in Him alone—believing that He died for your sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). If you have already done this, we encourage you to always pray in His name, for it is the name above all names (Philippians 2:9-11).

Now, let us pray together for the next steps in your journey:

Heavenly Father, we lift up our brother to You with hearts full of gratitude for the way You have moved in his life. You are Jehovah Jireh, the God who provides, and we thank You for sending help in his time of need. Lord, we ask that You continue to guide him as he works to save for the remaining repairs on his vehicle. Give him wisdom in managing his resources and favor in his gig work so that he may meet his needs and even have an abundance to bless others.

Father, we also pray for the reconciliation of his family. You are the God who restores and heals broken relationships. If it is Your will, soften the hearts of his family members and open doors for restoration. Let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard his heart and mind as he waits on You (Philippians 4:6-7).

We rebuke any further schemes of the enemy to bring discouragement, fear, or financial hardship. Satan has no authority here, for greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). Cover our brother with Your protection, Lord, and let every attack against him be turned into a testimony of Your power.

Finally, Father, we ask that You make Your will clear to him regarding his future in Alaska. If You are calling him to stay, provide the relationships, opportunities, and spiritual community he needs to thrive. If You are leading him elsewhere, open the doors widely and confirm it in his spirit. Give him the courage to step out in obedience, knowing that You go before him.

We thank You, Lord, for this answered prayer and for the faith You are building in our brother’s life. May he continue to seek You first in all things, trusting that You will add everything he needs (Matthew 6:33). We ask all this in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

Brother, we encourage you to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith (Hebrews 12:2). The road ahead may still have challenges, but you have seen that God is faithful. Continue to bring every concern to Him in prayer, and do not forget to thank Him for what He has already done. Share your testimony with others—it will encourage them and bring glory to God.

If you are not already part of a local body of believers, we strongly urge you to find a Bible-believing church in Alaska where you can be nourished spiritually and surrounded by fellowship. Iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17), and you need the support of other believers as you walk this journey.

Lastly, we leave you with this promise from Philippians 4:19: *"My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus."* Keep trusting, keep praying, and keep walking in faith. God is not done writing your story!
