Humble Prayer Warrior
There is power in prayer (James 5:16)!
If you had followed my Alaskan adventure, then you know my story. However, if not, then I will briefly describe it so you can pray more effectively.
Background:
In 2022, my wife left me and then used the court to take my children. We had been working in Alaska. I went to Texas for a new job and to set up our new home.
I prayed fervently that God would take me back to Alaska, hoping for a family reconciliation. I have always been a forgiving person seeking peace.
Finally, the presidential hand of God moved me to Alaska in late August 20 24. God gave me a job teaching school and coaching basketball. I moved to Alaska with no car and no place to live. God provided.
I lived in the shelter 4.5 months. Then I got a great apartment out of town on a mountain top for 4.5 months. I had to move out because the lady used it for Airbnb. I lived in my van for 28 nights. On June 16, the same lady let me move into the basement of that same house for free. I’ve been there ever since.
I lost my teaching and coaching job on November 20, 2024. It was due to no fault of my own. It was painful, but I was confident that God was working in some way. The school had to pay my salary through the end of the school year, nearly to the end.
In May 20 25, I left my apartment and moved into the back of my van. I also started a new job as a laboratory manager. The outgoing manager asked me to lie and he was very hateful and rude to everybody. I worked hard and a lot of extra hours but because of him on June 16, 2025, I was told my job was over.
On the very same day, I was told I could move into the basement of the house that I had previously rented an apartment. So, I left and went.
Now:
I have been unemployed since June 16, 2025. I have made money from doing gig work. It’s my only source of income.
I was told a month ago that I needed to leave the basement by November 1. Previously, the owner had told me I could stay through the winter, but then changed her mind for some reason. Again, when strange things happen always think the hand of God is at work.
So, on November 1, I will be homeless. At this point, one week from homelessness, my only option is to go back to the shelter, which I do not want to go to if possible.
My vehicle:
Again, I moved to Alaska with no car and no place to live. I was walking by faith and not by sight.
Approximately two or three weeks after I moved to Alaska, God provided me an old van, a 2006 Toyota Sienna. It has seen better days, but it was a beater with a heater.
I have used it ever since despite a number of different issues along the way. In fact, I’ve had three blowouts since July. I had to figure out ways to get new tires each time and get help.
Living in Alaska is not easy, especially when one is dependent upon himself or herself only. I’ve had some moments where I had no idea how I was going to solve an issue.
Anyway - approximately 10 days ago, my van started making a noise in the wheels upfront. In my mind, I just hoped it would go away, but it did not. It kept getting worse.
My van is necessary in order for me to work. Yesterday, I prayed fervently that God would help me get it fixed immediately. In the midday, I received a phone call from a guy that I’ve never spoken to before, and he offered to fix my van.
I felt such an overwhelming power of joy. Weeping endures for joy comes in the morning. I was so confident God sent him to help me.
So, he came over and it was obvious that he knew what he was talking about. He took the wheel off and discovered that both bearings were bad as I had said, and it also needed struts and new brakes. He offered to replace the bearings and the brakes for $220, which is a really good deal. Most mechanic shops appear would charge almost that much just to diagnose the problem. I’m estimating that to get both of those things fixed at a shop would probably cost $1500.
Last night he took the van and he said it would take two or three hours. I thought I may be able to work some gig work last night. However, later in the night, he let me know that he had a problem and would need to work on it on Saturday till noon.
It is 3:35 PM here in Alaska right now and I still do not have my van. I’m a little intimidated to contact him because I don’t want to irritate him or make him mad. He did report back that he had an issue he’s been trying to resolve and I’m just hoping and praying that he does not give up.
My fear is that he will give up and then leave me with the van in a worse condition… I hope not because if he does, I have nothing. I don’t have any way to make money.
I’m still confident and I’ve been praying this afternoon that God will help him solve whatever problems he had so that I can have my van back. I really needed to make money.
In fact, I need to make money to finish paying him. I paid him about half of the money upfront and told him I would need to work to pay the rest back, but I could pay him back quickly. As long as I have my van I can work.
Dear friends, please pray:
Van repaired and back on the road
Family reconciliation
Strength to endure
A new home
A more stable job
Thank you for following my story and enduring my prayer request and praying for me. I am truly grateful.
Yes, I do believe in Jesus Christ with all my heart. I’ve been a Christian since 1979 and I have tried to serve him most of my adult life.
