Against self

We hear your cry for help, dear brother or sister in Christ, and we join you in seeking the Lord’s wisdom and strength. It is a battle many of us face—the struggle to surrender our own understanding and fully trust in the Lord. The Word of God reminds us in Proverbs 3:5-6, *"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."* This is not just a suggestion; it is a command with a promise. When we try to navigate life on our own, we stumble in the darkness of our limited perspective, but when we acknowledge Him, He lights our path and directs our steps.

We must also remember that this struggle is not merely about changing our mindset but about transforming our hearts. Jeremiah 17:9 warns us, *"The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly corrupt: who can know it?"* Our own understanding is tainted by sin, pride, and self-reliance. That is why we must daily crucify our flesh and submit to the Holy Spirit’s leading. Jesus Himself said in John 15:5, *"I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me, and I in him, the same bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing."* Apart from Him, we are powerless, but in Him, we find strength, wisdom, and peace.

Let us rebuke the spirit of independence and self-sufficiency that so often creeps into our lives. The enemy wants us to believe that we can handle things on our own, that we don’t need God’s guidance, or that His ways are too restrictive. But we know the truth: *"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts"* (Isaiah 55:8-9). His ways are higher, His plans are perfect, and His timing is flawless. We must choose to trust Him, even when we don’t understand.

We also want to encourage you to immerse yourself in God’s Word. Romans 12:2 tells us, *"Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God."* The more we meditate on Scripture, the more our minds are renewed, and the easier it becomes to trust God rather than our own understanding. Prayer is another vital weapon in this battle. Philippians 4:6-7 says, *"In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus."* When we bring our concerns to God in prayer, He replaces our anxiety with His peace.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our brother/sister who is struggling to trust in You fully. Lord, we ask that You would break the chains of self-reliance and pride in their life. Help them to see that their own understanding is flawed and limited, but Your wisdom is perfect and infinite. Father, we pray that You would draw them closer to You, that they would seek Your face daily and surrender every area of their life to Your will.

Lord, we ask that You would fill them with Your Holy Spirit, giving them the strength and courage to let go of their own plans and trust in Yours. Remind them that You are faithful, that You have never failed them, and that You never will. Help them to meditate on Your Word day and night, so that their mind may be renewed and their faith strengthened. Father, we rebuke the spirit of fear and doubt that tries to keep them from fully trusting in You. We declare that they will walk by faith and not by sight, trusting in Your promises even when they don’t see the outcome.

We pray for a fresh outpouring of Your peace in their life, the peace that surpasses all understanding. May they experience Your presence in a tangible way, knowing that You are with them every step of the way. Lord, we ask that You would give them a hunger and thirst for righteousness, that they would desire to know You more and to walk in obedience to Your Word. Help them to acknowledge You in all their ways, so that You may direct their paths.

We thank You, Father, for hearing our prayer. We trust in Your goodness and Your love for us. May our brother/sister grow in their faith and trust in You, and may they experience the fullness of life that comes from walking closely with You. In Jesus’ precious name, we pray. Amen.

Keep pressing into the Lord, dear one. This battle is not yours alone; it is the Lord’s, and He has already won the victory. Stay in the Word, stay in prayer, and surround yourself with fellow believers who can encourage you and hold you accountable. You are not alone in this journey. The Lord is with you, and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6). Trust in Him, and He will guide you into all truth and peace.

We're right there with you, friend, in this journey of trusting the Lord more and leaning less on our own understanding. It's a daily battle, isn't it? But remember, even in the thick of it, we have a promise: "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28). He's got this, and He's working everything out for our good and His glory.

Let's keep meditating on His Word, especially Psalm 37:7, "Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prosper in their way, in whose heart there is nothing but vanity." Trusting Him doesn't mean we'll always understand, but it does mean we'll always be at peace.

Let's also keep praying, as Philippians 4:6-7 encourages, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

So, let's pray together:

Lord, we come before You today, laying down our own understanding and picking up Your promises. Help us to trust You more, even when we don't understand. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit, giving us the strength to let go of our own plans and trust in Yours. Remind us daily that You are faithful, and You never fail. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Keep trusting, keep praying, and keep seeking. You're not alone in this. We're all in this together, and our God is faithful.

Seek His Face and Presence not just His hand. In his Presence is everything you need. This does not mean you can have any material thing, perfect spouse because you asked for it in Jesus Christ name. You will have your needs, some of your wants, and difficult trials. The difficult trials are supposed to refine your character and make you more like Jesus. He is more interested in getting you to everlasting life and having your heart in the right place than he is in giving you gifts. It’s eternal life he’s concerned with.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy.

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
